Even though Eliana was telling the truth, Logan still felt like shed struck a nerve, and he was instantly both embarrassed and furious.
He took a deep breath, looked Eliana straight in the eye, and said “Don’t try to change the subject.
“That 20 million was money the Eliot Group invested. Now I’m here on behalf of the company to reclaim it. Is there a problem with that? What? You don’t want to pay it back?”
But Eliana stayed cool as ever in the face of Logan’s anger. She said slowly, “Mr. Eliot, maybe you should go over that contract you signed one more time?
“You were the one who willingly handed over the land in Westridge, and everything on it, to Mr. Wesley Lyons, for nothing.”
eered, “I gave you all the time in the world to read the fine print. Now that the Lyons Group is about to snag the idge project and it’s looking like a goldmine, you want your stuff back?
“Sorry, but we’re both in business. Once it’s in my pocket, don’t expect me to hand it over. So, the Lyons Group isn’t paying a
cent.”
With that, Eliana leaned back in her seat, looked Logan straight in the eye, and said seriously, “Mr. Eliot, anything else? If not, I’ve got work to do, so I won’t be seeing you on?”
Logan slammed his hands down on the table, his knuckles turning pale, veins bulging. He gritted his teeth and said, “Eliana, don’t forget, we’re still married.
“When one of us wins, we both win; when one of us loses, we both lose! What’s in it for you, treating me like this?”
“Just getting some payback,” Eliana shot back. “So you do know that a husband and wife are supposed to be in this together, when one wins, both win; when one loses, both lose?
“Guess I was wrong thinking you only cared about keeping things separate between us. Funny thing is, after all these years with you, keeping my guard up just became second nature.
“So maybe you should stick to your own lane, Mr. Eliot. Keep the Eliot Group’s mess out of the Lyons Group. All you’re doing is giving people something to laugh at.”
With that, Eliana called her assistant over. “Show Mr. Eliot out, please,” she said.
“Right away,” the assistant replied, then turned to Logan. “This way, Mr. Eliot.”
Logan stood frozen, his eyes bloodshot as he stared at Eliana. He couldn’t wrap his head around it; he’d come here in person, and she could still be so cold to him.
“Is this all because of Nathan?” Logan spat out, jaw clenched. “Eliana, have you been seeing him?”
“Now that he’s back, you want to patch things up with him, and I’m just in your way, so you want to kick me out of your life, is that it?” Logan growled, his voice trembling with anger.
As he spoke, he slammed his fist into a crystal ornament on the table.
The amethyst crashed to the floor with a loud crash, startling even Eliana’s assistant.
But Eliana stayed cool, her voice steady as she met his gaze. “Mr. Eliot, stop projecting your own bad intentions onto everyone else. Just because you play dirty doesn’t mean the rest of us do.
“You know exactly why I want this divorce, better than anyone. So why keep acting clueless?”

She added, “Since we’re laying it all out, let me remind you, don’t forget the courthouse tomorrow. Wouldn’t want people thinking the big boss of the Eliot Group is all talk and no action.
“You were quick enough to sign those divorce papers, so do me a favor and be just as straightforward when you show up
tomorrow.”
As she spoke, Eliana’s eyes fell on the amethyst lying on the floor She said seriously, “By the way, that amethyst was worth 55 thousand.
“But since we go way back, I’ll give you the friends‘ price, 50 thousand. So, how do you want to pay?”
As soon as Eliana said that, her assistant could barely keep from laughing out loud. But in the end, she had to bite her lip to keep it together.
Watching Logan leave with a cold huff, the assistant right behind him, Eliana raised her voice, “Make sure Mr. Eliot pays for this methyst.
a lot on his plate, easy to forget things, so remind him properly.”
The assistant called out, “Mr. Eliot, could you settle up for the amethyst you broke? Just come with me.”
As soon as she said that, everyone nearby turned to stare.
Logan’s face went from red to pale. He gritted his teeth and followed her to settle the bill.
By the time Logan walked out of the Lyons Group building, his mood was as dark as a thundercloud.
He’d strutted in feeling on top of the world, but now he just felt like crap.
But Eliana shut him down; every word out of her mouth left him with no comeback.
That fatherly affection Logan had felt for the kids lately vanished in a heartbeat.
He didn’t see any of this as his fault, no, in his mind, Eliana had been plotting against him from the start, setting up this whole mess just to screw him over.
He was sure Eliana only brought up the divorce now because Nathan was back, all to lull him into a false sense of security.
Then, the two of them had teamed up to snatch the Westridge project and the land rights out from under his nose.
Once Logan got stuck in that loop, the more he thought about it, the more he convinced himself he was the real victim here. The deeper he fell, the more he saw himself as the innocent one, trapped and unable to break free.
The more he brooded, the more a real grudge started to fester, like he’d been made the butt of some cruel joke.
If Eliana was so eager to divorce him, then he’d do the exact opposite; he’d refuse, just to spite her. He wanted to see what tricks she’d pull next.
As long as he didn’t let go, Eliana and Nathan could forget about ever getting their happy ending together. He’d make sure of
that.
Just as Logan was lost in his thoughts, his phone suddenly rang.
Seeing Isabella’s name pop up on the screen, Logan took a deep breath. For a moment, he hesitated, but finally picked up
the call.
As soon as he picked up, Isabella’s sobs came through the line.
Back then, hearing her cry would have made his heart ache with worry. Now, it just annoyed him.

Isabella choked out between sobs, “Logan, I just got a threatening message from the same people who were behind that accident overseas five years ago.
“They said it was me barging in that ruined everything for them back then, and now they want payback. Logan, what should I do? I’m really scared.”
Logan thought Isabella’s story was pretty weak, but after getting all riled up by Eliana, he didn’t bother exposing her. He just asked, “Are you still at the hospital?”
When Isabella answered yes, Logan said, “Okay, hang tight. I’m on my way.”
“Okay,” Isabella answered, but as soon as the word left her lips, she could barely hide the smile spreading across her face.
