Chapter 95
:
After hanging up with Logan, the light in Eliana’s eyes faded away instantly.
She’d thought that after today, she’d finally be free, that everything would start to get better.
But at that moment, she realized it was not even close to being as easy as she’d imagined.
Yesterday, when Irene asked if she was worried about Logan getting back at her, Eliana was absolutely sure it wouldn’t be a problem. As long as she stayed strong, she could handle anything.
But as everything went down, he still made her sick to her stomach.
She knew this was Logan getting back at her.
Because of how she’d treated him yesterday, he was dragging out the divorce. If he was miserable, he’d make damn sure she was too.
As Eliana slowly saw Logan for who he really was, she couldn’t help but think how foolish and laughable her previous life had been. She’d thrown away her entire life on a guy like him.
And she finally realized she’d been wrong about something all this time. Maybe Logan never even liked Isabella the way she thought he did.
Turns out, the only person he ever truly cared about was himself.
In her previous life, Eliana had put up with way too much, which was exactly why Logan could be with Isabella without a shred of guilt.
But just to make Eliana miserable and keep her stuck, Logan didn’t give a damn about what Isabella was going through.
Maybe this time around, he never even planned to be with Isabella at all.
Because Eliana fought back and refused to give in, Isabella’s real intentions kept slipping out again and again.
And once her flawless act fell apart right in front of Logan, he might not even care about Isabella anymore.
He was unbelievably self–absorbed, to the point of being downright selfish.
Eliana sat there, her eyes brimming with raw emotion.
The baggage and grudges from both her lives hit her all at once. She was at her breaking point.
After calming down for a while, Eliana finally picked up her phone and called Irene,
“Irene, you totally called it. Logan really is trying to get back at me,” Eliana said.
Irene freaked out. “What did he do? Where are you, Eliana? Are you hurt?”
Eliana rushed to clarify, “I’m fine, really. He didn’t do anything to me. He just won’t come sign the divorce
papers.
“Irene, looks like I need you to be my divorce lawyer.”
After hearing how serious Eliana sounded, Irene’s whole vibe shifted. “You got it. I’ll fight for you with everything I’ve got.
“But Eliana, seriously, even though I’m a lawyer, I mostly handle business disputes. If you want a divorce lawyer, there’s this guy in Ockgend who’s a total legend.
“If you can get him on your side, you’re basically guaranteed to win. All the big shots go to him for their divorces.”
“You mean Richard Luther?” Eliana asked.
Irene nodded right away. “Yeah, that’s him. Even you know about him, which just shows how famous he is.”
“Yeah, he’s definitely a legend, but Irene, there’s no way I could ever get close to someone like Mr. Luther. How would I even reach him?” Eliana said, feeling a bit hopeless.
“I’ve heard about him, apparently even the big shots go to him, but he doesn’t give anyone special treatment, no matter how powerful they are. If I tried, he’d probably just slam the door in my face,” Eliana added.
Eliana listened to Irene and said, feeling totally defeated.
Irene explained, “We might not be able to land this big shot ourselves, but someone else can. You probably don’t know this.
“Back when Mr. Luther was still a nobody, he tried to get a job at some regular law firm just to survive, but they straight–up kicked him out.
“When he was at rock bottom, Nathan Turner was the one who stepped in and helped him.
“Ever since then, the two became lifelong friends, even though there’s a huge age gap between them.
“All it took was one meal, but you know how fate works. Because of that, Richard never misses a chance to bring up Nathan whenever he talks to people. I’ve heard him mention Nathan plenty of times over the years.
“So, if Nathan’s willing to ask for you, Richard wouldn’t dare say no.
“Eliana, if you really don’t want to talk to him yourself, I can handle it for you. I’ll ask Nathan to introduce Richard to me first, then I’ll introduce you two. That way, you won’t have to talk to him directly.
“Anyway, I don’t think anything with Nathan is urgent right now. The main thing is to get your divorce done first. What do you think?”
Eliana felt the same way.
Her thing with Nathan was just a youthful crush that never really went anywhere. But Logan was a whole different story.
There was so much baggage between them, and the last thing she wanted now was to keep getting tangled up with him.
But since she needed help, Eliana didn’t want to make Irene take on the favor for her, or go about it in a roundabout way.
She was just openly asking for help; there was nothing to be embarrassed about.
Thinking that, Eliana spoke into the phone, “I get it, Irene. I’ll reach out to Nathan myself.
“Since he’s the main backer for the Westridge project, anything that affects it is bound to matter to him. I’m pretty sure he won’t say no if I ask.”
Hearing Eliana come up with all those reasons, Irene couldn’t help but chuckle over the phone, but she still said seriously, “Absolutely.
“Getting Logan mixed up in this is a huge headache. You guys should focus on solving this problem together first. Everything else can wait.
“Eliana, I’ll be waiting for your good news. The day you finally get divorced, I’m throwing you a proper celebration.”
Eliana answered earnestly, “Alright.”
After hanging up, she didn’t hesitate for a moment and dialed Nathan’s number right away.
Nathan picked up almost instantly. “Didn’t get the divorce?”
Before Eliana could even say anything, Nathan already knew what was up.
Her grip tightened on the phone as Eliana took a deep breath and said, her voice steady, “Yeah, so I need a favor from you.”
Nathan chuckled, “Guess you already know I’m tight with Mr. Luther? No problem, swing by. I’m having dinner with him right now. I’ll text you the address.”
Right after Nathan said that, Eliana got his text with the address.
Eliana hadn’t expected things to go this smoothly. She stared at the message for a moment, a little stunned.
“Eliana, shouldn’t you be thanking me right now?” Nathan teased, noticing the silence on the other end after
he sent the text.
Eliana snapped back to reality and quickly said, “Right, thanks, Nathan. And please thank Mr. Luther for me, too, for agreeing to meet with me.”
“He’s only meeting you because of me, so really, your thanks should go to me,” Nathan said, sounding pretty pleased with himself.
