Chapter 158
This isn’t a trap.
Every single thing I asked for is here. And more.
I exhale and finally say it, half joking, half stunned. “You still didn’t include anything for yourself.”
He pauses.
Then he leans back slightly, arms folding as he studies me with something unreadable in his eyes. “Didn’t know that was an option.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“It is to me.”
I tilt my head. “So you just… give me everything and ask for nothing?”
A corner of his mouth lifts. “I’m getting something.”
“Oh?” I arch a brow. “Enlighten me.”
“You alive,” he says simply.
The air shifts.
I look back down at the contract because suddenly meeting his eyes feels like too much. My throat feels tight in a way I don’t want to unpack yet.
“You’re bad at this,” I mutter.
“At contracts?”
“At pretending you don’t care.”
He exhales through his nose. “Don’t push it.”
I sign anyway.
The pen scratches my name across the page, and when I hand it back, my fingers brush his.
Neither of us pulls away right away.
The silence stretches.
I tuck a strand of hair behind my ear, nerves fluttering low in my chest. “So,” I say carefully. “The bond. How do I…acept it? Will there be like, magic dust? Fireworks?”
He smirks, leaning back. “You just have to accept it out loud.”
I open my mouth-
And his hand gently covers it.
My breath stutters.
“But, my father warned me,” he says softly. “Whe you accept a rejected bond, the sudden surge might be… intense. For both of us.”
I nod beneath his palm, heart pounding.
“If something happens,” I whisper once his hand drops, holding it tight. “It just…doesn’t count. Right? If it’s just the bond

making us feel that way-‘
He pauses, searching my face. Then he nods. “Doesn’t count.”
I swallow.
Then I go quiet.
“It feels weird to just… say it.”
He studies me for a moment, then says quietly, “Then don’t.”
Before I can ask what he means, he leans in and kisses me.
His hand lacing up the hair behind my neck pulling me to him.
I gasp. Heat tears through me like wildfire, stealing my breath, lighting every nerve on fire. I kiss him back without thinking, the bond roaring to life between us, burning away the sickness like it was never there at all.
I feeling like I could run for miles.
I break against him with a soft gasp, breathless, as his mouth moves down my neck, licking my collar bone before nipping it.
“I-I” My voice a whisper, the words spilling out like a confession. “Dominic! Wait, I need to accept-”
Im breathless, his hand moving under my shirt, slipping up to my breast. I fall back to the pillows. He follows, ravenous.
“Dom,” I ache. Holding his closer, whispering in his ear. “I accept the bond.”
I wish it would have been fireworks. Sparkles, anything else then what happened. I have no words. Heat rush through me. Relief like a train, I feel alive. Freezing and burning up all at once. I grind my hips to his, my hand snapping over my mouth trying to
hide the sound.
Dominic groans softly, forehead resting against mine, both of us shaking with it. For a heartbeat, he’s just frozen over me, breathing hard like he just ran a mile.
“Ellie,” He groans, and I look up to see his face flushed. Deserate, sweat beading down his sharp jaw like he’s fighting everything.
“I-” He starts, his head dropping to my chest, out the breath. “I’m not going to be able to stop.”
“Then don’t.”
He flips me over. I’m on top, pressed together as our lips crash, his hand thread up my slip over my thighs, groaning into my mouth.
Mine follow, slipping up his shirt, forcing it off.
I don’t care. I want him, I-
Dominic’s hands leave me like I burned him.
Moving behind his head like a punishment.
It’s embarassing but, I nearly whine. Trying to pull his hands back.
“Ellie,” He groans, shutting his eyes, breath ragged. “We can’t,” he says hoarsely. “Not when it doesn’t count.”
I freeze.
I want to be mad, I want to say screw it and just…

But I nod. Still dizzy, still burning.
I sit up on him, trying not to notice the massive moutain under my hips as I slowly get off.
He stands, but as he gets up, he kisses my forehead, surprising me. “Get some rest.”
His voice still horse, like he’s still fighting it even when he leaves.
I sit there afterward, staring at the ceiling, heart racing, body finally quiet for the first time in days.
Oh gods, that was…
I shake my head. Focus.
Tomorrow, I’ll reopen my mother’s case.
Tomorrow, I’ll fight back.
Tomorrow, I’ll step into this strange new life as Dominic’s fake Luna.
But tonight, tonight, I sleep without pain.
