Chapter 111
Freda’s pov
I was still getting used to being with my mother. She was calm and
very sweet. I came out from my room trying to search for something
to snack on when I heard a knock on the door, I was reluctant to open
it because I had no idea who it was or who it was going to be, back at
the castle if there was a knock on the door it was either Christe or a
guard Damien had sent to me.
“Yes?” I asked softly as I approached the door, I didn’t hear anything
other than another knock on the door, this was heavier than the first
one.
“I know you’re in there!” I heard a man’s voice and I thought about
getting my mother but I decided against it and pulled the door open.
“Uhh hello,” I said, staring at them cautiously. I didn’t open the door
wide enough for them to see inside the house but it was wide enough
that they could see me well.
Two men stood outside the door staring at me like I had horns.
“Where is the occupant of this apartment?” the short man in the front

asked and I shook my head.
“She is not around at the moment” I lied, my mother was upstairs
sleeping but with that attitude he won’t be getting the truth from
me..
“Well tell her she would not be allowed to come back here until she
pays for her rent, she’s been owing for a long time, let her know that
next time I would bring people to move her things out after they
roughen her up a little,” he said and my heart started beating fast, they were going to roughen my mother up and it certainly was not
sitting well with me.
“H–how much is the money, how much is the rent that she owes you?”
asked and they looked at me from up to down.
“What?” I asked them and the second man shook his head.
“Who are you if I may ask?” he said.
“I uhh, I am her daughter,” I said, speaking with caution, I didn’t want to cause a stir, but I guess I did because they had a shocked look on their faces, and even though I wondered why I didn’t ask about it.
“That woman behaves like she has no one. Did she do that for pity?”
He barked.

“No. I just. I just came back…” I found myself stuttering.
“Oh, you left her? Or she left you? Is this a reconciliation party at my
house?
“No. How much is the money” I asked again and the first man gave me
a figure and I sighed. It was a lot but I could do something about it
with the money my father had packed along with the description in
the envelope.
“Uhh, I will be right back, let me go and get the money,” I said and
they looked at each other for a while before turning to look at me,
now they had a smile on their faces.
“Oh, we didn’t know she had someone rich.” One muttered.
I shrugged my shoulders and closed the doors before running up to
the room where I stayed, it wasn’t a room per se but it had a bed and
was not uncomfortable.
I searched under the bed where I had kept the envelope, I counted the
number of bills they had called, put the rest back in the envelope and
under my bed, and went outside to meet the men.
“This should be enough for the rent,” I said. He counted all the money
one after the other. It was clear he had no trust in me or my mother.

“Is it complete?” I asked again and the other one nodded.
“One more thing.” He said. “Neighbors have been complaining about her smoking. The next time I hear one more complaint, she will be
leaving that day.”
“I promise you, she will stop,” I muttered, really disappointed a
stranger was saying this about my mother. “Thank you for your
patience and consideration with her.”
In no time, they left the front door and I entered inside. As I sank
into the couch, my heart raced. I didn’t like the condition my mother
was living in. Back home, Lady Amelia got everything she wanted
from my father and this made me a little jealous. Mother was
suffering here and it had been happening for a very long time.
She has nobody to help her. She was slowly getting depressed the more I saw her eyes. I needed my mother to be happy, I needed her to feel alive without my father. But maybe she was just like me or I was just like her, because I also felt empty without Damien and nothing seemed to make sense.
To pay my mother’s debt, I needed more money. But it wasn’t just that, Father had instructed me to use the money for school, but now a whole out of it had gone to the rent.

Chapter 111
I needed to find a job. Something that could fetch me a good amount
of money to take care of my mother and school.
I thought about asking her about it, but I was certain she would not agree to me finding a job, especially for the reason of paying her
debts.
Mother was already happy to see me. If she saw that I was worrying too much about her, it might upset her.
I would ensure she wasn’t at home or deep in sleep when I went to search for a job. Or better still ask a neighbor for a job
recommendation. That way, everything would go smoothly without
her having to worry.
I was concerned about juggling work with school, but I was still excited to try a new experience. I needed to have a lot of things to say as stories if I went back to the kingdom.
Go back? Was I going back? Or the better question was, Would I be accepted? By Damien.
