**Freda’s POV
“That’s….a nice name” He let go of my chin as he took a step back. I breathed a sigh of relief as being in close proximity to him really messed up my thoughts. My thoughts flowed a bit smoother and took a step back to give us some distance so I could question him.
“Where am I? What happened?” I croaked with a dry throat.
“You’re in the royal chambers. You fainted after….well after everything that happened.” He replied, moving towards the bed.
Everything. The word hung in the air as I began to remember everything that happened before I passed out. Damian had killed his twin brother, seized control of the throne, imprisoned his father and the last thing I remembered was him ordering his warriors to seize my

“My father? Where is he?” I blurted out with a trembling voice.
“He’s safe, secure.” Damian answered curtly while observing me with a keen gaze like I was some new art piece he would love to acquire.
I breathed a sigh of relief knowing that he was safe. I feared that Damian would have lost patience with him and ended up killing him. I hated my father but not enough to wish death upon him. Besides, he managed to get a bit on my good side with his behavior improving.
“But…where is he?” I pressed for more answers.
“He is in the dungeon. He refused to sign the peace treaty I signed with the other leaders and he wouldn’t leave without you.” Damian answered flatly.
My relief evaporated, replaced by a cold shock. The dungeon? My father, a proud Alpha, locked away like a common criminal. It felt very wrong. So wrong that I summoned up the courage to protest against this decision.
“You can’t keep him in there! You have to let him out!” I protested, glaring at the vampire who sat down on the bed with a calm expression on his face.
“I would have let him out if he wasn’t so vocal about his disapproval of me claiming you as my mate.” Damian countered firmly.
I furrowed my brows in anger as I glared at Damian.
“That’s his right! He’s my father and I certainly didn’t remember approving of us being mates.” I retorted while folding my hands on my chest.
“First of all. He is in my territory and as long as he is in my territory, he will bow his head to the king” Damian replied coldly. ” And right now, that king is me.”
“And secondly.” Damian rose from the bed and started making his way towards me. I took a few steps back until I felt my back pressing against the wall. He reached me with one fluid step and me, in his hands bracing the wall on either side of my head, his face inches from
mine.
“You can’t deny the bond between us. Don’t tell me you don’t feel it too.” Damien’s voice dropped to a low and husky tone.
“I…I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I tried to maintain my defiance but my trembling voice gave my nervousness away.

Damien’s chuckle was low and sensual, sending shivers down my spine. “Don’t lie to me, little one,” he whispered as his breath danced across my skin. “I can feel it too. The pull between us, the spark that Ignites when I touch you is undeniable.”
To further buttress his point, he traced a finger on my face and I felt it. Small sparks ran across my skin as his touch traveled down the side of my face. The sparks didn’t hurt, not in the slightest. They felt a bit ticklish and I suddenly wanted so much more than his finger touching my face.
I took a deep breath to calm myself as I avoided his gaze. Whatever spell this man was casting on me needed to be broken and fast!
“That’s…..interesting.” I managed to say while forcing lightness to my voice “But I have a question for you. Why would you kill your own brother and take the throne?”
Damien’s expression hardened for a second before casing back to its signature nonchalance.“I didn’t do it for the throne.” he replied flatly. “I did it for you.”
“What? For me? You just met me today, why would you kill your own brother because of me?” My jaw dropped in shock.
“Well, I was always planning on killing both of them but your presence accelerated the whole thing.” He replied as he took his hands away from the wall while walking towards the desk in the room. “The succession wasn’t exactly…clear cut. While I had the approval of the elders to succeed the throne of Valthrun. My father and…my brother had other ideas.”
He grabbed a pen and gripped it tightly as his eye’s hardened. “They plotted against me on multiple occasions, trying to dispose of me before I could claim my rightful place. I had been living in constant danger, constantly looking over my shoulder. But I endured, biding my time.”
“Then you arrived and suddenly, the threat wasn’t just to me anymore but to you. You see…my father had a plan that I was privy off. He wanted to subjugate the entire werewolf packs and also use the blood of their daughters to perform a sacrifice meant to strengthen Steve.” A bitter smile twisted his lips as my heart skipped a beat.
This whole meeting for peace was a facade, a fake. His true targets were us, alpha daughters. Sweat poured down my forehead as I wondered what would have happened if Damian hadn’t crashed their plans. As I thought about the fate I had just narrowly escaped, a random thought flickered in my mind. I hesitated to speak my mind but I figured Damian would answer my question so I took a deep breath to ask him the burning question.
“So, as King of Valthrum, and…and your mate” I stammered with a voice barely above a whisper. “Does that mean….”
Damian turned back to me, with an intense gaze as a slow smile spread on his face.
“Yes Freda, it means you will be queen.”
