The knock at the door angered me. It didn’t matter that it wasn’t loud. We vampires have incredible hearing, and any noise was intrusive
enough.
“What?!” I tried not to sound too loud so I wouldn’t wake Freda. It was morning already, but we’d gone to bed late.
“Your Highness, the werewolf has requested to speak to you.”
The servant’s voice boomed through the door, and I frowned. Somehow during the night, Freda had pressed her body against mine, and I’d been
enjoying the feeling until this dimwit of a servant disrupted it.
“What is wrong?” Freda asked, moving away from me.
I frowned. I wanted her to remain pressed against my body, but it seemed that wasn’t going to happen. I got up and made my way to my dresser to put on a dress shirt. I had no idea why the Alpha was requesting a meeting, but I was certain it was about his daughter.
“Go back to sleep, Freda.”
“No. He said something about my father.” She stared at me with a confused expression that somehow made her look even more beautiful.
“Yes, your father has requested my presence. He wants either a word with me or my head. Either way, I’ll be paying him a visit.”
I finished with my shirt and was about to leave when she jumped out of bed and stood in front of me.
“What is this about?”
“Let me come with you. I’d like to see my father as well. Her tone held a hint of sadness.
She didn’t have to ask twice. I would give her anything and everything she could ever ask for.
“Let me get a maid to help you dress.”
She shook her head, quickly grabbing her clothes from the night before and putting them on.
“You need a change of clothes, Freda.”
She ignored me, tying her hair up in a bun that revealed her beautiful morning face. Her eyes were slightly red from sleep, but she looked gorgeous nonetheless. A certain part of my anatomy agreed enthusiastically and there was nothing small about it.
“I’m ready. Shall we?”
I nodded and led the way out of my chambers.
“Your Highness. My lady.” The servant who’d brought the news bowed.
I caught the small smile that crept onto Freda’s lips. It made me happy. She was enjoying this.
