MATED TO THE VAMPIRE KING SON
Chapter 81
Freda’s POV
I was overwhelmed. Too short of words at the guests who’d arrived. This was happening, truly happening. Damien wanted to make me queen and would do everything to make it work, including involving
my so–called family.
Considering how the last meetings between the vampires and werewolves had gone, the friction in the palace had been stiff. It was good seeing my father and Ember also the Alpha lady I’d met the
night of the vampire dinner.
She was the only one who’d genuinely accepted the idea of me being a
half–blood without judgment.
I wasn’t delighted to see Luna Amelia and her daughter Lily, but I was satisfied seeing them show up, even if it felt like they’d been
threatened.
Agatha and the other maids had started working to ensure everyone got a befitting room. Damien also hadn’t been seen, as he was always
with the nobles arranging one meeting or another.

Since he’d called me to come see my family, I hadn’t seen him around.
I paced the hallway restlessly. I wanted to speak to my father
privately and ask him about his preparation for my escape. Had he
decided what my mother said about it? Had he informed those who
would be involved in this plan? I hadn’t met anyone.
I had doubts. What if Father was playing me? He couldn’t be. I
assured myself. It just didn’t make sense if he was.
Most importantly, I was looking forward to meeting Kara, as she was the only one suitable to be called family among them.
“The queen in distress?” A mocking laugh escaped from a familiar
voice as I stopped to see Lily approaching me.
My stepsister. The second bully I’d ever experienced after her mother. The initiator of my bullying in school, the mastermind of making me
feel lesser than myself.
“Who do we have here? Lily Shane.” I walked toward her also, meeting
her in the middle where we both stopped.
“Your story has made the newspapers and magazines in town.” She snickered. “Freda, the former half–blood daughter of Alpha Winston, kidnapped by the vampires as a sacrifice, will be executed soon.”

I arched my brows, feeling disoriented. Was that a real headline?
What was wrong with these people?
“I remember your mother offering to use me as bait to the vampires.
Now look this got her a mate.” I snapped.

She laughed, clearly not affected by my words. “He’s only here to use
you for more power. Mate, my foot. A half–blood cannot have a mate,
and certainly not a vampire royal at that.”
“You’re jealous I get to be queen of the most powerful vampire
kingdom.”
“No, I’m sad you’re ending up hopeless. The Moon Goddess must not
like you. After so much suffering of being a half–blood, you still ended
up as vampire bait.”
“Then why are you here?”
“To watch you fall apart. I always had a knack for seeing you fail, and
this time is no exception.”
“Leave, Lily.” I ordered her, tears swelling in my eyes.
“Did you hear the school story also? That you killed Licita? Not only have you brought shame to Shane’s pack, but your name in the

werewolf kingdom is spreading as the vilest offender we have in
history. Because Licita was your bully, you ordered your so–called
mate to kill her.”
“Damien didn’t kill Licita.”
“But his father did. He killed Licita and her father, Lyrus. How do you
feel about getting married into a family like that? Is that your next
goal? Kill people you feel intimidated by until your ego is satisfied?”
“Stop, Lily.” My voice broke.
“I heard there was a human soft side to hybrids. Guess you’re also a
failure at being a hybrid.”
Tears rolled down my cheeks as her words pierced me in painful
places.
“Everyone hates you, Freda. You failed at being a good Alpha’s
daughter. You’ll certainly fail at being a queen also.”
“Lily…” I snapped, grabbing her clothes.
She flung my hands away hard and grabbed my neck, her claws
piercing into it. “Long live the evil queen and her deeds!” She spat in
my face.

“What are you doing?” A roar echoed in the hall as Damien grabbed
Lily and flung her to the wall.
She shifted into her wolf immediately, protecting her body from the
throw. Causing damage to the wall, she groaned and turned back to
her human form.
“Are you okay?” Damien cupped my cheeks.
I shook my head as more tears streamed down my face. He rushed to
meet Lily, holding her by the throat as she had held me. “One more
word about my mate, and you’ll be fresh meat and blood for my
nobles‘ dinner!”
Lily tapped his hand for help as she choked. “Damien, please.” I
rushed to him, urging him to release her.
I didn’t want her words to be proved right. She’d mentioned it already
the royal vampires were monsters. If she got hurt, it would only
worsen the rumors.
Damien dropped her at my plea, and she scurried away from the
hallway. He turned to me with a deep frown. “You are a queen. It’s
forbidden to tolerate insults like this.”
“She’s my stepsister.”

“No one is above your law!” He snapped.
I whimpered, emotions rushing over me from Lily’s words. Damien
wiped my tears with his thumb. “Oh, Freda. You have to be strong.”
“I’m trying.” I sobbed, and he pulled me into a tight hug.
“Why did your father kill them?” I sobbed. “They didn’t do anything.” I
continued crying.

Damien rubbed my back, planting kisses on my forehead and
comforting me. “I’m sorry.“.
But was it enough to turn back time? Why was he apologizing? He
was the same shade of wicked. He’d locked my father, killed his
brother, and locked his father too. What if his rage turned him into a
beast tomorrow? Did I want to be with someone like that?
