Chapter 83
Freda’s POV
I said loudly, making him turn to face me. His eyes had changed. The
fierceness I’d seen in them when he’d slammed Lily to the wall was
back. He looked nothing like the Damien I knew. His eyes glowed red,
and he bared his teeth.
“Drop him, please. He’s not worthy of your time. Just let him go.” I
was almost crying.
My father watched the interaction, and I didn’t understand why he
didn’t try to separate them or even utter words.
“You are one lucky son of a gun.” Damien said, throwing him across
the corner of the room.
I closed my eyes at the loud sound of bone crushing.
“This meeting is dismissed. You shall all retire to the rooms prepared
for you. Dinner will be announced later.”
Damien stretched his hands for me. I noticed the stares of people as l
took his hand.

“I want to say hello to some people I know.”
He frowned. The hall was clearing out little by little, but out of the
corner of my eyes, I caught my father’s Luna, Lily’s mother staring at
- me. I guessed I’d start my greetings there.
Damien didn’t like the idea, but he wasn’t going to stop me. He
squeezed my palm and gave a single nod. I don’t know why I was
seeking his permission, but I just couldn’t leave when his hand was
reaching out for me.

“Be quick.”
He turned to walk away toward the entrance of the room.
“Well, well, well. Look who thinks she became a hero because she
prevented a man from getting killed.”
My stepmother said, walking toward me in her heels. She was the one
person who didn’t need to try hard to look pretty. If only she were as
pretty on the inside as she was on the surface.
“Hello to you too.”
I responded blandly, and she didn’t like my tone at all. She glared at
me while moving closer. Our feet were almost touching.

“Just because the vampire king wants you doesn’t mean you get to
disrespect me.”
I rolled my eyes. I wasn’t even being disrespectful. She was looking
for trouble, I knew that. But I was ready to do anything in my power
to avoid it. I didn’t want Damien threatening another member of my
pack.
“He almost killed her, and you watched! Your blood. You turned your
back against your sister, almost letting her get killed!”
I smiled. “Sister? So you agree Lily is the sister to a half–breed like
me? What happened to me not being a member of your family?”
I asked in a challenging manner, and she raised her finger to poke my
chest.
“I shall not have you speak to me in such a manner. You are nothing
but a selfish half–breed, and you and that little bloodsucking pest do
deserve each other. I just hope you keep in mind that there’s no proof
he won’t do to you what he’s doing to others. What makes you so sure
you’re safe?”
“My safety is not yours to worry about, Lady Amelia.” I gathered my
courage. “You are here for my coronation, and I will not…” I poked my
finger in her chest. “…allow you to disrespect the queen.”

She seemed taken aback. “And as for your daughter, Lily until she gets
a man who loves her like my Damien does, she has no right bothering
a hybrid about being queen.”
“If he wasn’t there to protect you, Lily would have rubbed your face
into the ground.”
“And that’s why I have him. Not any of you.”
“You have no one. Even your father was disappointed to hear you
mated with an enemy.” Her eyes rolled. “If he could reverse time, you
would never be born.”
“If I could reverse time, you would never have been in my father’s
life.” I blurted.
Lady Amelia scoffed. “Bitch. Just like your mother!”
It took everything in me to stop my hand from slapping her face.
“Don’t you bring my mother into this!” I warned her. “I would not hesitate to turn into that beast you see me as.” My eyes reddened.
She pulled away for a moment, then scoffed. “Okay, Freda. We’re here
for your coronation. Let’s keep it that way.”

She turned to leave. My hands began to shake. The words from family
members hit harder than rocks. If someone else had spoken to me,
just maybe, I would have handled it better.
The hole of not having a mother to defend me just like Amelia
defended Lily scarred my heart. All these emotions in just a few days
were too much to handle.
I walked back to my room to curl up, overwhelmed with all the
feelings. I needed to rest. I pulled off the gown I wore first, which was
hard enough. It took me minutes to remove. Then I crashed on the
bed.
Freda, you have the solution to this. Coronation is soon. The only
thing you should be thinking about is your escape, I thought.
When I got to see my mother, the love I’d long lost would come back
all over again. I would get to go to university like I’d always wanted.
Life would be simple, no fangs or claws battles. Just humans who had
no supernatural ability but lived to take care of themselves and their
emotions.
And maybe I might miss Damien, or Christie, or Kieran. But
temporary happiness was nothing compared to permanent, and that
was the joy I wanted.

Chapter 83
A new life was coming to me soon. There was no need to debate it in
my thoughts again. I would go as far as I could, and no one would be
able to find me.
I would go deep into the sunlight to stop Damien from reaching me
also. He was a vampire. There was no way he’d sacrifice that much
torture to find me.
