MATED TO THE VAMPIRE KING SON
Chapter 84
Damien’s POV
Lady Elara, Lady Daphne, Marquess Theo, Duke Magnus, Lord Balen,
Baron Rhys, Count Andrew, and Uncle Kieran all gathered in front of
- me.
The few I’d appointed tasks were giving reports on how their work
was.progressing. Theo had handled the arrival of the guests properly
as instructed. Even if the werewolves were too stubborn to agree,
they’d been treated nicely. I saw that he’d done a great job.
Magnus’s security was tight too. Even when the wolves scowled at the vampires, he’d ensured they maintained their composure. He’d also
made certain none of them came in with weapons.
Lady Daphne and Lady Elara, in charge of the coronation rites, would start to fulfill their duty also. I’d made it mandatory that they stayed
in the palace until the coronation was over, so they had all the time
in the world.
“Thank you for being here. You might be the acting officials, but once the coronation comes, new people will be appointed to my court, and
some will, of course, be demoted.”

I enjoyed the looks on their faces. “However, if your work performance
is convincing, I might change my mind. I’ll observe each of your
performances this week.”
They nodded, while some scoffed.
“My King, news has reached the town about the upcoming coronation,
though rumors also.” Lady Daphne said. “The people say the queen
might be planning with the werewolves to take the throne from you.
Some assumed she was bait sent by the wolves.”
I chuckled. “Freda is nothing of the sort. Moreover, the wolves cannot
take us down. Clear off rumors spreading like that.”
“A time will come when these won’t be rumors anymore,” Count
Andrew spat.
“You don’t know Freda like I do.”
“You mean you also believe she lacks strength and is incapable?”
I held my fist, trying to keep it together. With the conflicts at hand,
would the nobles be able to live in the same castle as the werewolves?
They were enough to provoke me.
“Prepare your rooms. I have other things to attend to.”

I stood up from the throne. I stopped in my tracks when I saw Verestina walking in. She had a bag I presumed was her luggage.
Her eyes met mine, and a frown crossed her face. She was wearing revealing clothes on the upper part of her body. Flashes of our past
moments crossed my mind.“‘
“What are you doing here?” My tone changed, harder than I’d even
spoken to the nobles.
“She’s here to stay also.” Lord Balen interrupted. He was always the
first to back up his daughter.
“Verestina is not invited to my castle.”
“As a noble, I have the right to bring my family with me to the castle. Or has that right changed, Damien?”
“As the King-”
‘King Damien.” Lady Elara interrupted. ‘Verestina is a noble maiden. There are rituals she’ll perform for the queen for coronation also.”
I pursed my lips. If Elara said she was useful, then she was. But a maiden for the coronation? Verestina was far from being a maiden.
Her attitude and experience didn’t qualify her.

I turned to leave since Elara’s words made some sense, but I could
hear pounding footsteps behind me. I stopped to see Verestina.
“You want the guards to escort you out?”
“Damien, I’m not here for that.” She moved closer with a soft voice.
“It’s King Damien to you.”
“King Damien,” she corrected. “I am indeed happy for you. Who would
have thought you’d end up in love with just one woman?”
“Where are you headed with this? I don’t have time to exchange
words with you.”
“Please respect what we shared, Damien. I was your best, right…”
“Don’t flatter yourself. And if there was any day I made a statement
like that, that record would have been wiped and replaced by Freda.”
She inhaled as her heart sank. “We could still be friends, Damien. You
cannot just break things off with me. We were special.”
“I don’t wish to be friends with you anymore, Verestina. As a matter
of fact, my mate would be displeased to see me talking to… other
people.”

“Damien, why do you hurt my feelings so much?” She raised her tone,
but emotions coursed through her voice. “You want to leave all that
we had just because she’s here?”
“Did you sleep with Draken and Steve?”
My face hardened as I asked her. She kept quiet for some time, and
when she tried to speak, she could only stutter.
E
“Just what I thought.” I responded. “Do you agree that I owe you no
loyalty or friendship?”
Her hands stretched to touch the fabric–of my clothes, close to my
chest. “I can make up for it. You know I would do anything if you required me to.” Her voice started changing to the seductive Verestina
I knew.
I shook my head, pushing her back. “I could cut off your head right now to relieve me of your discomfort, but I’ll respect what we had and give you one more chance. Verestina, let this be the last time you
approach me or my mate for such preposterous reasons.
She froze, and I didn’t wait for another word before I walked out. She
didn’t need another chance to talk to me. I had Freda, and she was
enough.

As I walked toward the hallway, a familiar scent of Freda filled my
nose, and I knew she was close by. All I needed was her now to soothe
my irritation. She was enough. More than enough. My Freda.
This coronation was a fulfillment for me because a new life was going
to begin with my reign, with Freda by my side. I had a plan for how I
wanted to rule my people, and I was just a step closer.
