Every time this happened, the Spencer boys told her not to eat spicy food again. They always reminded her that Philip had lost his life to save her, so why couldn’t she be considerate of Taylor? Would it really kill her to cut back on the spice?
However, if the Spencer boys ate something spicy by accident, Taylor acted completely different. She would smile sweetly, tell them to rinse their mouths, and the whole thing would be brushed off like nothing.
Now, Jesse finally didn’t have to worry about Taylor and could enjoy her food.
Chatter buzzed around her.
“Did
you
watch Mike’s match? They were amazing! They won the playoff round so easily!”
“Last time was just a slip–up. This time, they totally crushed the other team!”
“Mike looked so cool. Even the way he flew the drone was awesome!”
They were so loud that their voices stood out even in the noisy cafeteria.
After hearing them, Jesse remembered that Mike’s team had their playoff round today. She opened the tournament website on her phone and clicked on the Archebot Team’s match.
After Matthew repaired the drone, he hadn’t told her the details, so this was a good chance to check. She could watch while eating and see whether his skills had improved.
She ate her meal while staring at the livestream.
On the screen, Mike’s drone zipped across the field.
Her eyes narrowed a little, and she tapped her fingers on the screen. Zooming in, she could see the drone lagging. Its flight wasn’t as smooth as before.
Still, the team they faced wasn’t very strong. Even though Taylor’s control was clumsy, the drone’s performance had dropped, and the team’s coordination wasn’t great, they still won.
However, the cost was high–the drone broke again.
Jesse gave a small smile. It looked like Matthew would be making money again.
“Jesse, are you watching Mike’s match?”

A familiar voice suddenly came, filled with pride and challenge.
Without looking up, Jesse closed her phone and asked coolly, “What is it?”
Taylor pulled Mike, who looked annoyed, to sit across from her. Her eyes gleamed with
smugness.

On the surface, though, she bit her lip and acted concerned. “Jesse, see? Even if you refused to help the team and didn’t fix Mike’s drone, we still found a way. Don’t keep using things like this to pressure him.”
Her words carried clear mockery.
See? Without you, Jesse, the Archebot Team’s drone still got fixed! Without you, the Archebot Team will win!
Jesse looked up, her gaze cutting straight at Taylor. “What are you trying to say?”
Taylor quickly pulled back her smile and feigned innocence. “I was just worried about you, Jesse. Don’t keep being stubborn and fighting with the family. If you apologize to Mike, he’ll let you come home. Isn’t that right, Mike?”
She raised her voice a little when she asked Mike. The way she said it made Jesse’s skin crawl.
Mike snorted. He didn’t give in, even with Taylor asking for her.
Jesse glanced at the remaining bits of her meal and suddenly lost her appetite.
Just as she was about to stand and clear her tray, Mike’s phone rang. He frowned and pulled it out. Seeing it was a teammate, he stood up and walked out to take the call.
Jesse looked at Taylor, who was still sitting across from her. “Your brother left. Aren’t you going too?”
Mike hadn’t gone far when he heard her. He suddenly turned back. “How can you talk to Taylor like that? This is the cafeteria, not the Houston Residence! Who are you trying to act tough with?”
At the same time, his teammate’s urgent voice came through the phone. “Mike, the drone has problems again.”
Mike frowned, frustration rising. “What’s wrong this time?” His voice was low and impatient.
Before, all of this had been Jesse’s job. Now everything had to be reported to him, which was wearing him out.
Because of that, the way he looked at Jesse grew colder and more resentful.

“Problems that come after use are normal. I just don’t know how to fix it. It’s the same issue as before. Taylor, come to the team.”
Taylor smiled faintly, pleased that she had completely taken Jesse’s place in everyone’s eyes.
She turned to Jesse, hoping to see sadness or frustration on her face. However, Jesse stayed calm, watching her like she was watching a joke.
When Taylor met those steady eyes, her heart skipped a beat, and her face went pale. That was when she remembered–she didn’t know how to fix drones.
Her fingers twisted at the hem of her shirt as sweat formed on her forehead.
Mike didn’t notice. He smiled with relief and said to her, “Taylor, the team’s drone broke again. Let’s hurry back and fix it.”
