Chapter 8

William wasn’t satisfied.

“Still think we should just kill them and be done with it.”

I frowned at him. “William, you promised me.”

He immediately looked down and pouted like a kid. “Alright, fine. No more murder talk. Gotta rack up good karma for our son.”

Then his eyes went dark again as he looked at Archer and Hayley.

“But I’m not letting these fuckers off easy after what they did to you. They’re gonna pay big time.”

He gave his guys a look, and Archer and Hayley were dragged out immediately.

Soon we could hear blood-curdling screams from outside.

I was too busy with my son, who’d just woken up, to give a damn.

The baby saw his daddy and lit up, reaching excitedly for William to hold him.

William wasn’t doing his usual bitching about wanting a daughter-he gently rubbed the baby’s back.

“That’s really my tough little man, protecting Mommy.”

The baby giggled, and my heart melted watching them.

I figured that was the end of our Archer problem, but the bastard somehow clawed his way back from Africa.

He looked like a homeless bum, with one busted leg, camping out in front of my company every single day.

Until one day when I went to a Starbucks alone.

He suddenly dropped to his knees in front of me, sobbing loudly. “Karen, I screwed everything up!”

“That lying bitch Hayley played me!”

“That kid wasn’t even mine-she was screwing some random dude behind my back!”

I raised an eyebrow. Well, that was a plot twist I hadn’t seen coming.

Archer was crying and trying to grab my hand, but I dodged him.

I looked at him coldly. “Oh really? Congrats on getting cucked.”

Archer choked up, then looked at me with pathetic hope. “Karen, I’m begging you-I know I fucked up beyond belief. Please just come back to me?”

“For the sake of my mom saving your life, can’t you give me one more chance?”

“I promise I’ll never cheat again. I’ll spend the rest of my life devoted to just you.”

“Since you can actually get pregnant, maybe we could have a real baby together?”

I stared at this man like he was a complete moron.

“Did it ever cross your tiny brain that maybe YOU were the defective one, not me?”

He couldn’t hold a candle to William-I’d only married him out of gratitude for his mom saving my life.

Would I be stupid enough to marry such a selfish, useless piece of shit again? Hell no.

Besides, he was already completely broken.

I planted my foot in his chest and sent him flying.

Ever since that whole nightmare, I’d been busting my ass at the gym doing Krav Maga and kickboxing.

Judging by how Archer went sprawling, my training was definitely paying off.

William quickly caught up to me, nervously grabbing my hand. “You okay?”

I smiled and shook my head. “I’m fine. Just some crazy homeless guy.”

We chatted and laughed as we walked into the coffee shop together.

When Archer tried to follow, the barista blocked him at the door.

“Sorry sir, but you’re not allowed inside.”

Archer lost his shit outside. “What the hell! I used to be a VIP customer here!”

The employee looked at him like he was insane but kept that professional smile.

He went back and got Archer a Coke, handing it to him. “Here’s a drink for you, sir, but you still can’t come inside.”

Archer completely snapped, throwing the Coke in the employee’s face and getting into a fight with him.

The cops showed up pretty quick and hauled him off to jail.
