Chapter 6
“Aveline.”
The second his fingers touched her wrist, a wave of nausea hit her, and she shook it off in disgust.
“What is it, Alpha? Done playing house with your wild little darling?”
Jaxson’s face twisted in frustration. “Lirael’s just a friend. Why are you being so jealous? You’re the Luna of Thornpeak Pack. Can’t you be mature for once? Do you have to humiliate us in public?”
Aveline let out a dry, disbelieving laugh.
Of course. Somehow, in the end, it always circled back to being “her* fault. How convenient.
“So let me get this straight,” she snapped. “Even if I walk in on you and your side piece in bed, I should smile, close the curtains, and stand outside protecting the great Alpha of Thornpeak Pack’s precious reputation?”
His grip on her wrist tightened, his eyes flashing. “How many times do I have to say it? She’s just a friend!”
“A friend, is it?” Aveline’s tone dripped with irony as she looked him up and down. Then her gaze turned playful, laced with something sharper–like seduction, or maybe vengeance.
“Alright then, I’ll go find myself a friend too. And I’ll make sure to do everything you and Lirael have done–every last thing.” She leaned in slightly, her voice a whisper dipped in venom. “And you, dear Alpha… don’t get jealous. That wouldn’t be fair, now would it?”
Aveline’s final words hit harder than any slap. The way she called him “Alpha” carried weight. It wasn’t just to remind him of their relationship but more like a warning–as if she really might walk out and find someone else… just like that.
Jaxson’s hand clamped tighter around her wrist, alpha authority flooding toward Aveline in an instant. His face turned iron–gray. “Don’t you dare.”
His grip was so strong it felt like he might crush her bones. Cold sweat beaded on Aveline’s forehead, yet even under the crushing weight of his alpha command, she kept her chin raised.
The pain swept through her entire body, but compared to the ache in her chest, it was nothing.
Aveline felt as if something had pierced right through her heart, each heartbeat twisting the knife deeper.
She met his eyes, pain and disbelief swimming in hers. “So you “do* know you’ve gone too far,” she whispered.
Jaxson froze for a second, then shoved her away like her words had burned him. “I told you, Lirael and I didn’t cross any line. But if you want to go and get yourself a male companion–do what you want.”
Jaxson’s alpha pressure eased slightly. Aveline shot him a mocking smile. “You said it, so when it happens, don’t you “dare* play the victim.”
Then she turned without another glance, slid into her car, and slammed the door shut with a bang. Jaxson froze for a moment, then quickly chased after her, pounding on the window and shouting, “Aveline!”
But before he could pull the door open, Morgana and Lirael caught up, each grabbing an arm to hold him back.
The moment passed, and Aveline didn’t wait around. She stepped on the gas and left them behind in a roar of tires.
The bar was drenched in neon lights and thick smoke, packed with people trying to escape their loneliness.
Aveline sat slouched in a booth tucked in the corner, already tipsy from drinking too much.

Chapter 6
She had seen the betrayal with her own eyes. Now, every bitter truth crashed into her, cutting through her like blades, mixed with memories that
used to be beautiful.
In her haze, a scent of cedar suddenly filled her senses.
Before Aveline could react, the wolf inside her began to stir, thrashing wildly in her mind.
She shook her head hard, trying to dispel the damned smell, but the cedar only grew sharper, more distinct.
“Excuse me.” A deep, gentle voice pulled her back from the chaos.
Her nose twitched uncontrollably. Amid the alcohol, tobacco, and various perfumes, she pinpointed the source of that cedar scent with precision. There he was–tall and composed, his legs long and poised in tailored black trousers.
His jacket was open, revealing a crisp black shirt tucked neatly into his belt, highlighting a slim, well–toned waist. His frame was strong, his chest broad. A sharp jawline, well–shaped lips, and eyes that seemed to see right through her. He was dangerously attractive.
He must be a powerful alpha.
The wolf inside her surged with excitement: *“Get closer!“*
Without a second thought, she pulled him down onto the sofa, climbed onto his lap, and played with his tie, her breath warm and sweet.
“Wanna be my one–night stand?” she whispered boldly.
