Nathan suddenly stood frozen. Thinking back to the document I’d asked him to sign, the realization finally hit him.
That wasn’t just some routine paperwork-it was my resignation letter!
“Impossible! Jade would never leave me. Where could she even go without me?”
The HR manager muttered: “I heard Secretary Rivers mention she was going to Stone Industries…”
“Marcus Stone? She’s actually going to work for Marcus? No way. This has to be fake-she’s trying to manipulate me, doesn’t want me to marry Isabella, so she’s putting on this whole act.”
Isabella quickly agreed: “That’s exactly what this is! Secretary Rivers just can’t handle it-thinks she can control you this way. Nathan,
today is our wedding. Can we put everything else aside? We’re running out of time.”
As soon as Isabella finished speaking, the officiant’s voice boomed from the stage:
The ceremony is about to begin. Will the bride and groom please take their positions.”
“Nathan, let’s go…”
Isabella tugged at Nathan’s hand, but he stood completely motionless.
The guests began whispering among themselves.
“What’s happening? Why isn’t Mr. Pierce moving?”
The officiant’s called for them several times. If they don’t get up there soon, they’ll miss their window.”
“Did you see Mr. Pierce’s face go white when he heard Secretary Rivers quit? You think he’s thinking about her instead of getting
married?”
“What if the rumors are true? What if Mr. Pierce really was sleeping with Secretary Rivers? If so, marrying someone else makes him
a total scumbag!”
The murmurs grew louder like rising tide. Isabella started to panic.
“Nathan, everyone’s waiting for us. What’s wrong with you?”
“Then let them wait!”
Nathan’s growl was terrifying. His face was dark as a storm.
The guests felt the dangerous energy radiating from him and immediately fell silent.
Isabella’s composure cracked, tears streaming down her face.
“Nathan, what exactly are you trying to do? Don’t forget-my belly’s getting bigger by the day. With all these people here, if you humiliate me like this, I swear I’ll kill myself!”
Hearing Isabella’s tearful voice, Nathan’s rationality slowly returned.
He turned to look at Isabella beside him.

Marcus’s car was parked at the company entrance just as I finished collecting the last of my personal items upstairs.

Marcus rolled down his window, a freshly lit cigarette between his fingers.
Smelling the smoke, I instinctively frowned.
Nathan had rarely smoked these past few years.
Whenever I caught a whiff of cigarette smoke, it always made me uncomfortable.
You don’t like it?”
The man seemed to notice immediately and quickly stubbed out his cigarette.

Nathan didn’t come chasing after you?”

Oh? He’s really going through with marrying that woman?”
Marcus let out a cold laugh and told his driver to go.
I remember when he used to fight me for contracts-he was like a rabid dog. Now he’s letting some woman lead him around by the lose. I’m curious to see how long his company lasts without you.”
