I smiled softly. “No need to tell him specifically. Just follow the normal procedure.”
After all, yesterday Ethan went to Victoria’s welcome party, and today he was too happy to even bother coming to the office. He wouldn’t have time to notice these details.
For the next two days, Ethan still didn’t show up at the company.
Meanwhile, I was busy handling my immigration paperwork and throwing away everything in my apartment that had to do with
Ethan.
Expensive jewelry, limited edition luxury cars, even little trinkets he’d casually given me-I threw it all away.
Until the third evening, when my phone suddenly buzzed.
I know you and Ethan have been screwing around for years, but he’s with me now, so you better stay away from him! He’s not jonna want some used-up old bitch like you!]
frowned, about to ask who this was, when Ethan’s call came through.
Sweetheart, come downstairs.” His voice carried that familiar excitement I hadn’t heard in ages.
A black Maserati was parked outside the company building. Ethan just leaned against the passenger door in casual clothes, sunlight asting delicate shadows across his perfectly sculpted face. For a moment, I was reminded of when we were fifteen and he’d wait for
ne outside school just like this.
Taking you somewhere special.” He raised an eyebrow and opened the car door.
didn’t expect our destination to be the shopping mall.
Ethan dragged me through every luxury boutique, holding up items against me. “Do you like this one?”
Looking at myself in the mirror, surrounded by designer everything, I felt conflicted. “You don’t need to buy me all this…”
Sweetheart,” he suddenly leaned close, his warm breath tickling my ear, “you and Victoria are about the same size. If you like it, the’ll definitely love it too.”
[froze.
So he was shopping for Victoria.
“You two are together now?”
“Minhum.” Ethan’s eyes sparkled like a kid who’d gotten the best Christmas present ever. “I confessed at the welcome party, and turns out she’s liked me all along! She said she just never knew how I felt, so she was afraid to make a move…”
He rambled on like a lovesick teenager.
I listened quietly, suddenly remembering that nasty text.
I hadn’t known who sent it before, but now everything made sense.
“Ethan,” I interrupted gently, “what do you like about her?”

She’s so sweet and kind,” he answered without hesitation. “Nothing like other girls.”
I thought about the text calling me used up” and “old bitch,” and couldn’t help frowning slightly.
Kind?
That was debatable.
After a moment of silence, I spoke up anyway. “She might not be what you think-”
But Ethan’s smile disappeared instantly.
His lips still curved upward, but his eyes went ice cold. “Sweetheart, I thought you were smarter than this.”
His long fingers brushed through my hair, the gesture tender but carrying a clear warning. “Don’t trash-talk the love of my life just because you’re jealous.”
He might be young, but as the heir to a billionaire empire, he’d always had that commanding presence.
Feeling the sudden shift in his energy, I knew I’d crossed a line.
“Sorry.” I finally chose to stay quiet and didn’t mention the text.
On the drive back, Ethan mentioned that Victoria loved antiques and wanted me to bid on everything at the upcoming auction.
“Sure.” I agreed calmly. “But jewelry alone won’t be enough. Maybe add some paintings too?”
Ethan looked at me with surprise. “You’re not jealous anymore?”
Jealous?
I’d never liked him to begin with. How could I be jealous?
I’d only spoken up because I didn’t want to see him get hurt.
Just as I was about to respond, Ethan’s phone rang.
Victoria’s panicked voice came through the speaker: “Ethan… I’ve been kidnapped… help me…”
Ethan’s face went white as he immediately pulled out his phone to track her location.
Once he found it, he yanked the steering wheel hard.
Before I could react, the sudden turn slammed me into the passenger window. Blood immediately started streaming down my forehead.
But Ethan didn’t even glance at me as he floored the gas pedal toward the hotel rooftop.
On the rooftop, the kidnapper was some CEO whose company had been destroyed by Blackwood Industries. Right now, he held a knife to Victoria’s throat: “Ethan Blackwood! You ruined my life, so I’m taking away what you love most!”
I pressed my hand against my bleeding forehead and watched Ethan panic for exactly one second before he actually smiled.
“Win some, lose some-that’s business. Don’t be such a sore loser.”
Then he grabbed my arm. “Also, you grabbed the wrong person. She’s not my girlfriend-this one is.”
