The wedding was about to begin, but Nicholas was full of anxiety.
Just when he and Ariana were getting ready to exchange rings, someone suddenly called a stop, and out of nowhere, a wave of relief washed over him.
But when he looked up to see who it was, it wasn’t me. It was some foreign man.
Nicholas recognized him right away–Vincent Giblon.
“Nic! Where’s Carol? I’ve figured out how to fix her eyes, but I can’t reach her.”
“Her eyes?”
Nicholas felt totally confused. Ariana jumped in and urged. “The wedding is what matters right now. We have so many friends watching. Let’s just get through this quickly, and we can sort everything else out later.”
But Nicholas didn’t let her finish. He stepped down from the stage, grabbed Vincent by the arm, and asked, “What do you mean? What’s wrong with her eyes?”
“Wait, you don’t know?”
Vincent realized he might have messed up and stopped talking.
Nicholas was getting more and more flustered. He pressed Vincent, snapping, “Just spit it out already!”
With no other option, Vincent said, “When you got poisoned back then, she tried all those medicines for you, and that’s what made her go blind. All these years…”
“That’s impossible!” Nicholas interrupted him, shaking all over with his eyes turning red.
Vincent found this whole thing confusing and started to walk away.
But Nicholas grabbed him back and said, “I know where she is.”
“Nicholas!” Ariana called out to stop him.
Only then did it seem like Nicholas snapped back to reality. He was at his wedding, and he was the groom.

Tears welled up in Ariana’s eyes. “Nic, haven’t you moved on from her yet? I’ve done so much for you, but none of it seems to matter. You’d really ditch me here at our wedding… just for her?”
Her friends were chatting away and started giving him a hard time.
Vincent, who had been listening in, suddenly jumped in. “What are you guys talking about? If Carol hadn’t been backing him financially, how could he have cruised through the business world
like that?”
He locked eyes with Nicholas, “I thought you two had already sorted everything out, but I never saw this coming…”
“How can that be?” Nicholas shot back at Ariana, “It was clearly you who-”
Out of nowhere, Ariana stumbled and fell to the ground.
Nicholas rushed over to help her up.
Ariana looked really weak and said, “Nic, do you really trust some outsider more than me?”
Vincent got fired up, too. “Nic, I think you’re the one who’s being blind here!”
He stormed off in a huff. After thinking it over for a while, Nicholas finally decided to stick around.
For the rest of the wedding, his mind was totally elsewhere.
As soon as he stepped off the stage, he told his guys to start digging into everything I’ve been up to for the last ten years.
Weirdly enough, it was like all my traces had just vanished over that time.
Nicholas was getting more and more anxious. “Keep looking! I need to know what she’s hiding!”
Ariana did her best to get him tipsy.
Nicholas picked up on her grievance and felt really guilty about it. Just when he was about to head back to the wedding suite with her, his doctor stopped him.
“Oh man, it’s such a shame for you and Ms. Dacombe.
“I thought she did all that stuff for you… out of guilt or wanting to make things right…
“But after hearing what Vincent said today, I realized that her feelings for you…”

Nicholas was really curious, but the doctor never finished what he was saying. He just passed out drunk on the floor.
Right then, his assistant called and said. “Ms. Dacombe isn’t home. All her stuff is gone. It looks like she’s left.”
Just as Nicholas hung up, another unknown call came in.
It was Vincent.
“Nic! Carol is dead!”
