Happiest Night 6

Happiest Night 6

Chapter 6

Mom swept back in with a styling team in tow. “Kristine, come on-time to get ready. Look at these gowns I picked out. You’re gonna blow everyone away.”

I eyed the racks of dresses being wheeled in. They were all… a lot.

“Mom, I’m just taking over as CEO, not competing in Miss Universe. Plus, most of the company already knows who I am. This feels a bit… much?”

Mom didn’t even pause. She grabbed a white bodycon dress covered in crystals and held it up to me. “This one screams elegance, but it’s missing something.”

Then she snatched a red strapless gown and pressed it against me. “Now this-this shows off my daughter’s flawless skin and killer legs. Wear this one first. We’ll keep the rest on standby.”

I sighed. “Fine.”

I changed into the red gown while the stylist worked on my hair and makeup.

By the time I arrived at the banquet hall, the executives and business partners were already mingling.

After the host’s brief welcome, Dad took the stage. “Thank you all for coming tonight. I’m here to announce that my daughter will officially take over as CEO of Sterling Group.”

The host gestured toward me. “Let’s give a warm welcome to our new CEO.”

I walked up in heels, applause echoing around me. And then I spotted him-Lysander Pierce, standing close to the stage.

What the hell was he doing here? I barely had time to process it before the host handed me the mic. “Hi everyone, I’m Kristine Sterling. Starting today, I’ll be taking over as CEO of Sterling Group. I hope you’ll all bear with me as I settle in.”

Someone from the crowd spoke up. “Wait, isn’t that the marketing director from Sterling? Looks like Ms. Sterling was getting her hands dirty in the trenches. Mr. Sterling really knows how to raise a daughter-so young and already running the whole company.”

The flattery started rolling in. Dad looked proud as hell. “When Kristine came back from abroad, I wanted her to take over right away. But she insisted on starting from the bottom to really understand the business. So I let her.”

‘Like father, like daughter! Mr. Sterling’s brilliance clearly rubbed off.”

Dad led me around, introducing me to partners and board members I didn’t know.

Some were clearly just kissing up to Dad. Others looked skeptical-probably pissed that someone my age was about to run the company. But with this many people around, they kept their mouths shut.

held a glass of juice and made the rounds with Dad, toasting everyone.

‘Sorry, I’m a lightweight. Juice will have to do. Hope you’ll all forgive me.”

A slightly greasy-looking guy shoved a glass of red wine at me. “Young people these days-how can you not drink? You’ve got a lot of business dinners ahead of you, Ms. Sterling. Refusing a drink? That’s pretty disrespectful, don’t you think?”

A hand reached in front of me and snatched the glass away. A voice, laced with irritation, cut through. “She said she can’t handle alcohol. You deaf?”

I followed the hand up to Lysander’s face. He’d appeared out of nowhere, standing right beside me.

Greasy Guy glared at him. “Who the hell are you? This is none of your business!”

Lysander swirled the wine glass lazily, barely looking at him. “Weather’s getting cold.” He paused, his gaze sharpening. “Your company’s about to go under.”

Greasy Guy burst out laughing like he’d heard the funniest joke of his life. “Hahaha! Who do you think you are? Some CEO from a TV drama? You think you can just snap your fingers and bankrupt me? Do you even know who I am? Do you know how powerful my company is?”

Lysander pulled out his phone and tapped the screen a few times. Greasy Guy stood there smirking, waiting for the punchline.

Lysander slipped his phone back into his pocket. No follow-up.

Greasy Guy spread his hands. “That’s it? Nothing?”

Lysander adjusted his tie, completely unbothered. “Three… two… one…”

Right on cue, Greasy Guy’s phone rang. His smirk vanished. He answered, and his face went from smug to ashen in seconds. He stared at Lysander in disbelief.

After hanging up, he still looked shell shocked. “Who… who the hell are you?!”

Lysander ignored him entirely. Instead, he turned to me and extended his hand like a gentleman. “May I have the honor of this dance, Ms. Sterling?

I stepped forward. At this angle, my lips were right by his ear. I whispered, “Looks like you’re a bigger deal than I thought… honey.”

“The Night of Betrayal”

1. Introduction: The Hidden Truth

The story opens with a shocking confession from the female protagonist, Kristine Finch. She reveals that she suffers from night blindness — or at least, that’s what everyone believes. However, what no one knows is that she regained her sight months ago.

On her wedding night, her husband, Doria Finch, betrayed her in the cruelest way possible: he ditched her to meet his ex-girlfriend, leaving his best friend, Lysander Pierce, to take his place in bed. They believed Kristine wouldn’t find out because of her supposed blindness. But now, fully able to see, she’s pretending to be blind — playing along to uncover the truth and plot her revenge.

2. The Night: A Dangerous Game

The chapter begins with tension as Kristine emerges from the bathroom, still pretending to be visually impaired. When the bedroom door creaks open, she calls out for her husband — only to find Lysander standing there instead.

Lysander freezes in shock, but Kristine continues her act, stretching her hand forward, pretending to feel her way through the room. What happens next turns unexpectedly intense: Lysander crosses the room in a few quick strides, grabs her arm, and pulls her into a passionate kiss. His hunger and aggression suggest deep, unspoken emotions — possibly guilt, desire, or both.

As the tension escalates, their interaction grows intimate. Kristine’s nightgown slips away, and the scene becomes a mixture of raw passion and emotional chaos. When Lysander suddenly pulls back and collapses beside her, she teases him, pretending ignorance. Her words — “You can get it up, can’t you?” — provoke him again, and he resumes with more urgency. The night ends in exhaustion, confusion, and unspoken turmoil between the two.

3. The Morning After

When Kristine wakes up, Lysander is gone, and the bed beside her is cold. On her phone, there’s a single unread message — from her husband, Doria.

The message is calm and casual:

“Saw you were still sleeping this morning, didn’t want to wake you. Something came up at the overseas branch. Board’s sending me abroad for a month. Take care of yourself. I’ll miss you.”

Kristine laughs bitterly at the message, knowing full well it’s a lie. She realizes that her husband’s so-called “business trip” is really a honeymoon with his ex, Lily — the woman he truly loves. The message, for her, is the final confirmation that her marriage is nothing more than a sham.

4. Flashback: The Wedding Betrayal

The narrative shifts to a flashback that exposes the full depth of Doria’s betrayal. The night before, after the wedding ceremony, Kristine had gone to the dressing room to change into her toast dress. When she came back out, she overheard a conversation between Doria and his groomsmen — including Lysander.

The men were laughing and joking, seemingly carefree. One of them teased Doria about his situation:

“Damn, Doria’s got it all figured out. Married here, honeymoon abroad…”

Kristine, curious and smiling, had almost stepped forward to join them when Lysander’s voice cut through — sharp and skeptical:

“If you’ve got a first love waiting, why’d you even marry Kristine?”

Those words froze her in place. Hidden behind a pillar, Kristine listened as her new husband answered — and shattered her heart.

5. Doria’s True Colors

Doria’s response revealed everything. With a smug tone, he admitted:

“Lily’s the one who got away. Who forgets their first love? She came back — of course I’m taking her back.”

Then he went on to describe Kristine — not with love or respect, but as a strategic asset:

“Kristine’s perfect wife material — loyal, educated, family-oriented. Already an executive at Sterling Group. She helped me land a huge deal. She’s my career boost.”

To Doria, the marriage was purely transactional — a way to secure business benefits and elevate his social status, all while keeping his heart reserved for Lily.

Kristine stood there, stunned and humiliated, realizing that her wedding had been nothing more than a business deal and a cover for Doria’s infidelity.

6. Lysander’s Conscience and Conflict

Lysander’s reaction to Doria’s confession is critical. Unlike the other groomsmen who laugh off the situation, Lysander’s voice grows cold and tense. He challenges his friend:

“You’re seriously ditching your bride right now?”

But Doria only laughs, brushing him off. He reveals his final, unforgivable plan — to have Lysander stand in for him on the wedding night:

“Relax. She’s got night blindness — can’t see a thing in the dark. One of you just needs to fill in for me tonight. Go through the motions. She’ll never know.”

Even as one of the men hesitates, calling it “messed up,” Doria insists, patting Lysander on the shoulder and joking:

“You’re about my size. Just act drunk, slip out before sunrise. She’ll never know the difference.”

That was the moment Lysander’s moral compass began to fracture. Torn between loyalty to his friend and his sense of right and wrong, he became a pawn in Doria’s twisted scheme. And yet, by the end of the night, his actions suggest far more than reluctant compliance — there’s desire, guilt, and an emotional connection simmering beneath the surface.

7. The Twist: Kristine’s Secret

The chapter’s greatest revelation comes full circle: Kristine is not blind anymore.

Months ago, she quietly regained her vision but chose to keep it secret. Now, pretending to remain blind gives her a powerful advantage — allowing her to observe the truth without anyone realizing.

On her wedding night, she saw everything — the deceit, the substitution, and the guilt flickering in Lysander’s eyes. Instead of exposing them immediately, she decided to play along, to gather information and exact her revenge methodically.

Her silence is not weakness — it’s strategy.

8. Themes and Emotional Undercurrents

This first chapter weaves together multiple themes that drive the emotional intensity of the story:

Betrayal and Deception

Doria’s infidelity and manipulation form the backbone of the plot. His calculated use of Kristine for professional gain, while secretly pursuing his ex, highlights the theme of emotional exploitation.

Power and Vulnerability

Kristine’s supposed blindness symbolizes helplessness — yet in truth, she wields enormous hidden power through her knowledge and deception.

Moral Grayness

Lysander’s actions blur the line between guilt and desire. His initial compliance makes him complicit, yet his later tenderness hints at remorse and possible emotional conflict.

Revenge and Reclamation

Kristine’s regained vision represents clarity and rebirth. Her decision to keep her secret hints at a larger revenge arc — she’s no longer the blind, naïve woman they think she is, but a strategist waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

9. Closing Reflection

Chapter 1 sets the stage for a gripping tale of betrayal, revenge, and emotional entanglement. The reader is left questioning:

  • Will Kristine expose her husband’s deceit?

  • What role will Lysander play — an accomplice, a lover, or a savior?

  • And how far will Kristine go now that she holds the ultimate weapon — the truth?

The chapter ends not with closure, but with simmering vengeance. Kristine’s quiet smile and cold laughter mark the beginning of a calculated war — one where sight, deception, and desire intertwine.
