Emily touched up her lipstick and was about to leave the restroom when she abruptly stopped at a corner in the hallway.
Not far away, Simon was pressing Clara against the wall, deeply kissing her.
The alpha’s strong arms were clasped tightly around the omega’s waist, as if he wanted to meld her into his very being.
Clara tilted her head back, her slender neck forming a graceful curve.
After a long while, Simon finally released her, gently rubbing her slightly swollen lips with his thumb. His voice was low.
“Satisfied?”
Clara leaned against him, her voice soft and tender. “Simon, don’t you think I’m asking too much? I’ve already received your family heirloom, yet I still want you to kiss me… If my sister saw this, she would probably be upset again.”
“I’m just in so much pain. If that accident hadn’t happened, you should have claimed me…”
Simon’s eyes were calm, he hugged her tighter.”I don’t care what’s her feelings.”
‘I never liked her in the past, and I’ll never like her in future.”
“My heart belongs to you and my wolf wants nothing but you, Clara.”
With that, he leaned down and kissed her again.
Emily stood there, her heart feeling like it was being squeezed tightly by an invisible hand, the pain making it hard to breathe.
She raised her hand to her chest, thinking: This must be the warmth left of her past love for him.
Once this warmth fades, there will be nothing left.
Simon and Clara kissed for three minutes before turning to leave.
Only after their backs disappeared completely did Emily emerge from the shadows.
She took a deep breath, straightened her skirt, and prepared to return to the banquet hall to get her bag and leave.
But as soon as she entered the hall, Clara rushed over and grabbed her wrist. “Emily, if you liked the ring Simon gave me, I could have given it to you. Why did you steal it?”
Emily was stunned.
“What stealing? What are you talking about?”
“You’re still faking now!” Clara’s eyes were red.”I only went to the restroom for a moment, and the ring was gone! The waiter said only you were near my bag!”
Mr. and Mrs. Davis rushed over, and without a word, slapped Emily across the face.”Emily, why you make everything into a mess every F**King day?!”
Emily’s cheek burned with pain. Before she could react, Mrs. Davis shrieked, “Someone, go search her!”
Several waiters immediately surrounded her, roughly tugging at her dress.
Emily struggled desperately.”I didn’t steal it! Let go of me!”
‘Rip-
The sound of fabric tearing echoed, Emily’s shoulder exposed to the air, immediately causing a gasp and laughter from the surrounding crowd.
‘Found it! A waiter pulled the emerald ring from her bag.”I found it! In her purse!”
Clara took the ring, tears streaming down her face.”Emily, the evidence is right here. Are you still going to lie?”
Emily trembled, about to speak, when the crowd suddenly parted-
Steady footsteps approached from afar.
She looked up and saw Simon walking towards her step by step, his polished leather shoes clicking on the marble floor, each step like a tread on Emily’s heart.
“Why steal it?” His voice was soft, yet it silenced the entire banquet hall.”I never considered you my mate, didn’t you know?”

Emily looked up, meeting his icy gaze.
“Emily, some things don’t belong to you,” his thin lips parted, each word like a poisoned knife. “They will never be yours. No matter what.”
Emily suddenly laughed.
This laughter caused Simon’s brow to furrow imperceptibly.
He had seen her cry, seen her make a fuss, seen her hysterical, but he had never seen her laugh like this, a laugh that seemed like liberation, and
like mockery.
“I didn’t steal it.”
Her voice was soft, but every word was clear. The chandeliers in the banquet hall cast fragmented light in her eyes, like tears, and like stars.
‘And-
She took a deep breath and said, word by word:
“I regret not rejecting you!”
