I stood and folded my arms, watching him with mock impatience. “You really had to come and ruin the moment, didn’t you? You’re like the principal showing up just when the class finally starts having fun. I’m pretty sure it hasn’t even been an hour.”
He checked his watch, that calm arrogance never leaving his face. “I’m a man of my word. It’s been an hour and five minutes.”
A smirk tugged at my lips. “You couldn’t sneak in thirty more? Maybe just to prove you actually trust me?”
He stepped closer, that faint smirk growing. “Oh, Gianna. Is no secret I don’t trust your motives.” His hand gestured toward the spread before us. “This little picnic…… let me guess. Another scheme to get under my skin?”
“Why would you think the worst of me?” Arms spread wide I gave him my sweetest look. “I’m harmless.” The truth was, I loved seeing that controlled aura of his crack, just a little.

His eyes narrowed, amusement flickering behind his icy grey eyes. “You don’t frighten me.” His tone shifted, firm and commanding. “Enough games. We’re going inside”
I tilted my head, grin bright and wicked. “And what if I’m not ready to go inside?”
“We had an agreement,” he warned. “One hour. That’s all. He pointed toward the house. “Move.”
I took a single step back, heartbeat quick with defiance. “No. What if I just…… want to?”
