Chapter 7
That day, amid a hail of bullets, Therese locked eyes with him from a distance. Ryan watched helplessly as the joy on her face crumbled into cold indifference.
She had come to tell him she was pregnant-to share the happiest news of her life.
But instead, she saw him, shielding another woman in his arms.
Whenever Ryan thought of her reddened eyes and devastated expression, he could no longer sit still.
Staggering to his feet, he grabbed his assistant by the collar, eyes blazing.
“I don’t care what it takes-find Therese. Now!”
“She’s my wife. She has no right to leave me!”
At his desperate tone, the assistant couldn’t help but laugh coldly.
“Mr. Parker, if I remember correctly, just a day before everything happened, you personally signed the divorce papers.”
“You’ve already hurt Miss Alba so badly. Why not just let her go?”
Ryan looked up, stunned, tears finally breaking free from his eyes.
“That’s not what I meant. I only signed them out of spite-I never truly wanted to divorce her!”
“No matter what, I have to find her. She saved my life once-I owe her everything. I’ll make it right. I have to.”
Pushing his assistant aside, he stumbled out of the room like a man possessed.
He believed-no, he was convinced-that she still loved him too much to vanish forever.
He was certain that once he found her, he could win her back.
It would just take time, patience, and effort.
This time, no matter the cost, he swore he wouldn’t let her slip away again.
On the other hand, I was already gone-taken overseas by Calvin.
The moment we boarded the plane, I fell unconscious.
My fever raged for hours without breaking.
Even in sleep, my body couldn’t find peace.
I was trapped in nightmares for what felt like eternity.
In my dreams, my mother and the two children I had lost stood before me, covered in blood.
Their eyes bore into mine-filled with resentment and blame.
I woke up screaming, my face cold and wet with sweat.
The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was Calvin’s face twisted in anguish.
16:16 Mon, 21
He held my trembling hand, gently stroking my hair in an effort to comfort me-but his voice was filled with suppressed anger.
“Therese, what the hell happened to you?”
“What did you go through to end up like this?”
I stared at him in stunned silence, unable to form a single word.
How could I explain?
How could I tell him that the man I loved with every fiber of my being had killed my unborn
child?
That he hadn’t even spared my mother?
That the husband I risked my life to save had torn me apart-body and soul-for the sake of another woman?
Hatred surged inside me, boiling until I couldn’t hold it back any longer.
A mouthful of blood burst from my lips.
Panic flared in Calvin’s eyes as he immediately called for his private doctor.
After a thorough examination, the doctor sighed heavily.
“Miss Alba has experienced two severe hemorrhages, which have left her extremely anemic and physically weak.”
“She’s also suffered intense emotional trauma that’s taken a serious toll on her health. The best course of action now is immediate blood transfusion.”
Before the doctor even finished speaking, Calvin rolled up his sleeve.
“Stop wasting time. Take my blood. Now!”
I couldn’t help but let out a faint, bitter laugh.
The scene felt eerily familiar.
Only this time, someone was actually willing to bleed for me.
The transfusion took over an hour.
By the end of it, Calvin’s face was deathly pale.
But he still forced himself to sit up, brushing the hair from my forehead, his voice was soft and resolute.
“Therese… from now on, let me be your personal blood bank.”
“No matter what happens, I won’t let anyone hurt you again.”
Staring at his serious expression, I felt an overwhelming swirl of emotions rise in my chest -too complex, too heavy to put into words.
