After seeing Professor Martin off, Sean returned to the hospital room. Tracy was not sleeping peacefully. Her brows were tightly furrowed, and her forehead was covered in cold sweat.
He took a tissue and helped her wipe it away, then sat by her bed, watching her sleeping face.
With her fever subsided, Tracy’s complexion had returned to normal. Perhaps because the fever had just broken, her small, palm–sized face was a somewhat sickly pale.
Tracy slept fitfully in a daze until eight in the morning. The fever would spike, then recede, only to spike again.
Sean didn’t sleep all night. He was either taking her temperature or helping Tracy cool down physically.
When he saw Tracy open her eyes, he touched her forehead. The fever was finally gone.
Tracy spoke, her voice hoarse, “Sean, were you here watching over me all night?”
“Mn.” Sean poured a glass of warm water and handed it to her.
Perhaps because the fever had just broken, Tracy felt completely drained. She struggled to sit up, took the water, and began to drink.
Just then, Gary walked in carrying two insulated flasks and a briefcase. After setting the items
down, he quickly left.
Sean ladled a bowl of oats and handed it to Tracy. Tracy said thank you and began to eat.
Suddenly, Lily’s voice came from outside. “How did you get this kind of disease? I thought it was just ordinary headaches, I never expected it to be a brain tumor. What should we do? Should we tell Jackson and discuss with him whether to have surgery?”
