Madam Sarah gave a cold snort. “You know very well what you’ve done.”

With that, she took Tracy by the hand and led her upstairs to her room, the two of them chatting in private.

By lunchtime, Jared had returned. Dressed in a black suit, his sharp features carried the shrewdness of a seasoned businessman.

As they ate, Madam Sarah kept serving food into Tracy’s bowl. At her request, half the dishes on the table were ones Tracy liked.

Yvonne glanced at the spread, her appetite vanishing, though she had no choice but to sit and

eat.

After picking at her food, she set down her fork and lifted the necklace around her neck, the so-called True Love’s Heart. With a blissful smile, she announced, “I have some good news- I’m in a relationship. This was his birthday gift to me!”

The fork in Tracy’s hand froze. She looked at the necklace for a moment, her brow tightening ever so slightly before she forced herself back to normal and continued eating.

It was blatant provocation.

But she no longer cared. Chandler himself no longer mattered to her-so what did it matter whom he gave gifts to?

Faye’s eyes lit up as she stared at the necklace. “That’s the limited-edition True Love’s Heart. There are only two in the country, and they’re impossible to buy even if you have the money.”

“Yvonne, you’re truly blessed. To have found such a good boyfriend-Mom is so happy for you.”

Chase, though ignorant about jewelry, was quick to echo her. “Of course. Yvonne is so outstanding, the Xander family’s little princess. Only the best of the best could ever deserve her.”

Jared arched a brow and placed a piece of fish in Yvonne’s bowl. “Yvonne, being in a relationship is a good thing. Pick a time and bring him home for a meal, let us take a look at him.”

Trevor chimed in happily, “Your brother’s right. You young people date, but you still need to bring him home so the elders can see.”

As the table filled with smiles and cheer, Tracy bit her lip and tightened her grip on her fork.

None of them knew she was already married. And the man Yvonne called her boyfriend… was her husband.

So they sat there, all grins and blessings, while Tracy alone sat in suffocating silence.

Yvonne cast a faux-innocent look her way. “Why isn’t Tracy saying anything? Aren’t you happy for me, sister?”

Tracy’s hand clenched tighter around her fork as she raised her eyes to meet Yvonne’s.

Her sister flaunted the affair in her face and expected congratulations? Should she light firecrackers too?

This was no accident-it was a knife straight to the gut.

If it weren’t for the thirty-day cooling-off period, Tracy would have flipped the table already.

They didn’t know how to be human-only how to act like beasts.

“Clang.” Tracy set her plate down hard on the table. “I’m done.”

Chase scowled. “Tracy, Yvonne was talking to you. What kind of attitude is that?”

Tracy stood, scraping her chair noisily across the floor. “So what, I’m required to give a statement every time Yvonne announces she’s dating? Fine then-I hope they chain themselves together for life, so they won’t harm anyone else.”

The anger she’d bottled up spilled over. Did they really think she was a soft target, always to be mocked without consequence?

Yvonne knew exactly where to stab, and Tracy’s chest felt tight with rage.

“Clang.” Jared slammed his fork onto the table, his face grim. “Tracy, enough! Stop making a

scene.”

Tracy looked at her eldest brother, memories flashing of when he used to buy her candy with his allowance, back when he swore she was his only sister in this lifetime.

But now, everything had changed. That brother was gone, replaced by someone who only ever stood on Yvonne’s side.

“No,” Tracy sneered. “If I speak, I’m wrong. If I stay silent, I’m wrong. Tell me-how exactly am I supposed to please you?”

Madam Sarah’s fork clattered onto the table as she stood, her eyes cold as she turned on Yvonne. “Are you done yet? Can’t you keep your mouth shut even at the table? Eat your food, or get out. No one wants to see you stirring up trouble.”

Yvonne’s eyes filled with tears. “Grandma, you misunderstand me. I was just so happy, and since Tracy came home, I wanted to share it with everyone. I didn’t know it would upset her so much that I’m dating someone, I-”

Chase jumped to defend her, glaring at Tracy. “Tracy, just because Grandma spoils you, doesn’t mean you get to bully Yvonne every time you come back. How vicious can you be? She’s just dating-how is that an offense to you? What’s with that sour face of yours?”

“Smack.”

The slap rang out sharp across Chase’s face.

Everyone froze, staring in shock at Madam Sarah.

She fixed her sharp gaze on him. “Chase, you think you’re noble? Protecting your step-sister while bullying your real one? I don’t understand-she’s not even from the same womb as you. Why are you so eager to shield her?”

Jared’s face darkened. He snapped at Tracy, “Chase got hit because of you. Don’t you feel any guilt?”

He had been busy all morning, only coming home for lunch because Tracy was here. He hadn’t expected this scene—and now he only saw a spoiled, unreasonable sister.

Tracy let out a cold laugh. “Guilt? Didn’t he get slapped because he ran his mouth? Jared, maybe you should get your eyes checked. Clearly your vision’s gone bad if you can’t see what’s right in front of you.”
