Chapter 16 Tracy, What Are You Making a Scene About Again
Tracy sat down, and soon a server came by to take her order.
She asked for a glass of juice-her stomach was weak, and she couldn’t drink coffee.
Sam slid the invitations across the table. “Here’s the symposium invite. It’s scheduled for next Friday.”
Tracy accepted it with a smile. “Thank you. You’ve carried the load these past few years.”
She hadn’t been a responsible shareholder at all, leaving everything to Sam.
For three years she’d ignored the company entirely, yet still pocketed a generous dividend each quarter.
She’d never thought much of it before, but now it felt wrong. It was like taking money for nothing.
Sam only smiled and extended his hand. “Welcome back to the company.”
Tracy reached out and shook it. “Mm. I’ll be in your care from now on.”
Before long, their drinks arrived.
Sam stirred his coffee thoughtfully, then asked, “Tracy, I overheard you on the phone earlier. You’re moving?”
“Mm.” She took a sip of juice. “I’m preparing for a divorce, so I need to move.”
Sam already knew she was married, so she didn’t bother hiding the fact that she was divorcing.
“If there’s anything I can do to help, say the word. There’s no need to stand on ceremony with me.” His tone was serious.
“Alright.” Tracy nodded.
They spoke for a while longer on professional topics before Sam said, “By the way, the organizers want you to give a speech at the symposium. You should start drafting something.”
Tracy blinked, then laughed. “That’s not necessary, is it? I’ve been out of the field for years.”
Sam arched a brow. “I can’t stand you geniuses. Effort is worthless in front of talent. You’ve been
gone for years and no one’s surpassed you.

“So, Tracy, why are you belittling yourself? That’s not like you.”
Her lashes fluttered. Then she nodded in agreement.
They chatted a while longer before going their separate ways.

A few days later, Tracy unexpectedly ran into Chandler after days of his absence. She froze for a moment, then pretended not to notice.
He was sitting on the sofa, head bent over his phone, the corners of his lips lifted in a smile.
When Tracy walked in, Jennie hurried out with dishes, announcing cheerfully, “Ms. Tracy, today’s your third wedding anniversary. Mr. Chandler pushed back his work and bought cake to celebrate with you.”
Tracy blinked, only then remembering-it was July seventh. Three years ago today, they had gotten their marriage license.
She’d been so busy she had forgotten.
Every year they’d marked the day together. This year, she wanted nothing to do with it.
Chandler pocketed his phone, rose from the sofa, and walked toward her, rolling up his sleeves as he came. “Go wash your hands. Let’s eat. I bought your favorite cake.”
Today he wore a blue dress shirt, his tie loosened.
As he drew closer, she caught a whiff of his cologne. The same scent she had smelled on Yvonne before.
Her nose wrinkled, and she instinctively stepped back two paces. “I’ll wash up first.”
When she came out, Jennie had already laid out a romantic candlelit dinner. The flickering light seemed to mock her foolishness.
Chandler was arranging the cake, lighting candles. The heavy scent of mango filled the air.
Tracy felt as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over her. The chill seeped into her very bones.
She was allergic to mango.
After all these years, there was no way Chandler didn’t know. He simply hadn’t cared.

Because Yvonne liked mango, he remembered that. But he’d forgotten Tracy’s allergy.
Her eyes went cold. She held her tongue, forcing down the nausea, and walked toward the table.
Chandler cut a large slice and set it in front of her. “Didn’t you love this bakery’s cakes the most? This is their newest flavor. Try it.”
Tracy sat without moving, silently staring at him. Her eyes held the look one might give a
stranger.
“What’s wrong?” Chandler noticed her stare and frowned.
Tracy picked up the cake and tossed it into the trash. “I’m allergic to mango.”
Chandler’s knife halted mid-cut. Watching her throw the cake away, he assumed she was throwing another tantrum. His face darkened immediately.
“Tracy, what are you making a scene about again?” He set down the knife, his black eyes boring into her.
