Tracy nodded in understanding, but her tone was laced with sarcasm. “Oh really? Are you suggesting my ears are deceiving me?”
Both Lincoln and Perry were momentarily choked. When had Tracy become so sharp- tongued? In the past, she had always been deferential and well-behaved around them. This was the first time she had dared to speak to them this way, and right in front of Chandler, too. Was this yet another new tactic to get Chandler’s attention?
Sure enough, Chandler looked up at Tracy this time. “Do you enjoy being so confrontational?” The Tracy he had seen over the past few days was completely different from the woman she used to be. The old Tracy was gentle and yielding, always obedient to him, and never lost her temper in his presence. Over time, he found that tiresome. The current Tracy was like a small, clawing wild beast, baring her sharp talons at everyone. It was almost as if the timid Tracy of the past had been an act, which made him suspicious. Was this just another new trick Tracy came up with?
Tracy curved her lips into a smile. “Mr. Gaunt, you must be joking. When it comes to being confrontational, how could I possibly compare to you? Don’t you agree?” If Sean hadn’t helped her this time, Chandler would have truly driven her to a dead end. So many years of affection couldn’t even buy them an amicable ending. It’s quite sad when you think about it. Since they couldn’t part on good terms and their bond had been completely exhausted, when they met again, she would treat him just as he treated her.
Hearing this, a fleeting look of surprise crossed Chandler’s eyes, but he quickly returned to normal.
At this point, Lincoln couldn’t help but warn Tracy, “That’s enough, okay? Overacting isn’t a good look. Don’t make things awkward for everyone.”
Perry also tried to reason with Tracy. “Chandler is here today purely to discuss collaboration. You really don’t need to say so many spiteful things.”
Listening to their seemingly respectful but actually mocking words, Tracy recognized the old routine; the two of them used to work together to trick her years ago. It became clear to Tracy that they still didn’t know about her divorce from Chandler. What she didn’t understand was why Chandler, who had already been involved with Yvonne, hadn’t happily taken his heart’s desire, Yvonne, home now that he had willingly stepped aside.
Tracy withdrew her gaze and said lazily, “You can’t even win a three-on-one argument. How boring. It’s the same old lines every time. You don’t get tired of saying them, but I’m tired of listening.”
Dropping this remark, Tracy turned to leave, but at that moment, Chandler extinguished his cigarette, stood up, and grabbed her hand.

Chandler’s eyes were calm, but he spoke clearly. “Let’s talk.”

Tracy subtly pulled her hand away. “We have nothing to talk about.” When they were still married, she had wanted to talk, but Chandler never gave her the chance. Now that they were divorced, he wanted to talk, but she had nothing left to say. Everything that needed to be said had already been said.
However, just as she pulled her hand free, Chandler grabbed her again, this time pulling her directly toward a nearby storage room. Unable to break free, Tracy could only let Chandler pull her into the storage room. The light inside was dim, but Tracy could clearly see the clutter of miscellaneous items.
Chandler held her wrist, and Tracy couldn’t help but remind him, “We are already divorced. Why are you still looking for me?” When she was devoted to him, he was always indifferent, even habitually giving her the silent treatment and staying away from home for long periods. Now that she didn’t want anything to do with him, he came back for her. Sometimes I really think this man is being perverse.
Chandler looked at Tracy with a sharp gaze, his tone betraying no emotion. “Tell me your terms. What will it take for you to withdraw the lawsuit?”
Tracy paused briefly, then realized what Chandler was referring to. She curved her lips, mocking him. “Mr. Gaunt, when you sued me back then, did you give me a chance to negotiate? You deliberately filed the lawsuit on the third anniversary of my mother’s death. You left me no path to retreat, so why should I show you any mercy? Is it because you have such thick skin?”
Chandler’s expression darkened, but Tracy didn’t care how he looked. She said coldly, “Chandler, the day you repeatedly hurt me for Yvonne, our bond was completely exhausted. We are strangers now, so there’s nothing to discuss. I will make the people who wronged me pay the price they deserve.”
Having said this, Tracy turned to leave, but Chandler once again grabbed her wrist, and this time, his grip was much tighter. She gasped in pain, just about to curse, when Yvonne’s sweet voice drifted in from outside.
They heard Yvonne ask Lincoln and Perry, “Why are only you two here? Where is Chandler? Where did he go?”
Lincoln and Perry exchanged looks. Chandler was right inside the utility closet, but they couldn’t say that. Fortunately, Yvonne arrived after Chandler had left; otherwise, it would be difficult to explain seeing Tracy and Chandler pulling each other around.
Perry, being the calmer one, said, “Chandler had a bit too much to drink, so he went to the restroom. Does Ms. Xander want to go look for him there?”
Tracy glared fiercely at Chandler, who stared back at her expressionlessly. Since she couldn’t

leave, she decided to make things interesting. She kicked the object next to her with her foot. Her movement made a significant noise. Chandler wanted to say something to her, but she had no desire to hear it. She just wanted to leave this place as soon as possible.
Sure enough, Yvonne outside heard the sound and looked over suspiciously. “What was that noise inside?”
Lincoln felt his scalp crawl, cursing inwardly: Why is Chandler making such a scene? Is he afraid Yvonne won’t find out what they’re doing? His mind raced, and Lincoln forced himself to offer an explanation. “It might be a rat inside looking for food. The smoke is strong here, so let’s just go!” He was afraid that if they stayed any longer things would get out of hand. What if Tracy actually went to check? They wouldn’t be able to stop her!
Yvonne smiled and started walking toward the utility closet. “I’ll go see.”
Exchanging glances with Perry, Lincoln quickly stopped Yvonne. “What’s there to see about a rat? Chandler has probably already returned to the private room. Let’s just go back in!” This had truly scared him to death. He absolutely had to make Chandler placate him later. This is way too intense! My poor heart can’t take this!
Inside, Tracy heard the footsteps getting closer, and the mockery on her lips grew more pronounced. She raised her foot and kicked the object beside her again. This time, the noise was much louder, and the sound of footsteps outside abruptly stopped. She didn’t look at Chandler’s face, but seized the opportunity while he was distracted, stomped hard on his foot, and quickly escaped.
Due to the poor lighting, Tracy stumbled over something near the door but managed to catch herself before falling. When she got out, the people outside had already left. She instinctively glanced back at the utility closet; there was no movement inside. Honestly, she really didn’t want to be alone in a small room with Chandler; it gave her a disturbing sense of having an affair after a divorce.
