Thinking this, Tracy put down her phone and quickly immersed herself in work again.
That afternoon, Tracy went to deliver documents and was surprisingly interrupted by running into Chase in the elevator.
When the elevator doors opened, both of them paused. Tracy quickly recovered and moved further inside.
Chase took a long stride into the elevator. The space was cramped, and only the two of them were inside.
Chase walked up to Tracy, who was backed into the corner, and offered an explanation. “On the day of Mom’s anniversary, Yvonne hit her head. I didn’t have my phone, and Jared lost his. By the time I finally got a hold of a phone, it was already evening. I assumed you had finished, so I didn’t come.”
He had actually felt quite guilty about the situation, and now that he saw Tracy, he felt compelled to explain.
He didn’t think it was their fault. It was an emergency, and they couldn’t just leave Yvonne lying there. He felt Tracy should understand, since sudden accidents are completely unexpected.
Tracy didn’t even look at Chase, acting as if she didn’t know him or that he wasn’t speaking to her.
Seeing Tracy’s demeanor, Chase instantly grew agitated. “Tracy, I’m trying to explain what happened that day. What’s with the attitude? Or are you just cold-blooded, hoping Yvonne got hurt? Are you gloating inside?”
He had condescended to explain himself, yet Tracy still acted completely cold and heartless.

He was trying to explain things gently, but she either ignored him or said something utterly infuriating. She was truly lacking in manners.
“You? Do you even deserve to be called that?” Tracy laughed mockingly. “I already warned you that if you missed this anniversary, we would be strangers. Doesn’t it seem utterly ridiculous to try to claim kinship now? Why don’t you go down and ask Mom if she’s willing to forgive you?”
Mentioning her mother’s death anniversary made the corners of Tracy’s eyes turn red. If it weren’t for her mother, she wouldn’t bother speaking so much to them.
She had said enough, but Chase had ignored her, even though their grandmother had attended.
Her two biological brothers were nowhere to be found. All the coincidences added up meant it wasn’t a coincidence at all. They were just blind and ignorant, unable to see anything clearly.
Chase’s chest heaved violently as he glared at Tracy. “Tracy, I have already explained myself. What more do you want?”
In the past, Tracy would try to appease them at the slightest gesture of goodwill, practically begging for their approval.
