Chapter 38
Jake woke up resolute on Saturday morning. After an incredible night with Lyra in the woods, he knew one thing for certain: he wasn’t letting her go. His mission was clear. He had to convince her to stay, to show her she could be happy here.
But Jake also understood something deeper. Lyra’s happiness was tied to her brother’s. Donovan needed to feel safe, valued, and like he belonged. That wouldn’t be easy, but Jake was more than ready to rise to the challenge.
He started by calling Dr. Dylan Rockwell to ask about Lyra touring the hospital. She had spoken passionately about human medicine, and Jake remembered how animated she’d been. Since she’d pointed out the similarities between human and werewolf physiology, it made sense that her knowledge could be an asset. Dylan had been enthusiastic and promised to follow up soon.
Next, Jake contacted Daniel Howell, the local contractor he trusted for pack renovations. He walked Daniel through the packhouse and training center, explaining what he wanted: ramps at the front and back entrances, automatic door buttons, a paved path to replace the gravel between the buildings, accessible bathrooms on each floor, and widened doorways to accommodate a
wheelchair.
Daniel raised an eyebrow as Jake listed off the requests, his pencil hovering above the notepad.
“Are you sure, Alpha?” he asked cautiously. “I mean, I get wanting to make a few adjustments for
the Hart boy, but this is a lot of money and time. One ramp and one bathroom might be enough.”
Jake crossed his arms, voice calm but firm. “Are you suggesting our communal spaces shouldn’t
be accessible to all members of the pack?”
Daniel hesitated. “No… I’m just saying maybe there’s a simpler, less expensive way.”
“No,” Jake said again, unwavering. “This is what I want done.”
Daniel gave a slight shrug and began taking notes, asking questions as they walked through the
buildings again.
By late afternoon, the sun hung low as Jake walked beside Lyra up the same gravel path he’d asked Daniel to pave. That part, along with the ramps and automatic doors, was slated to be finished. within a week. The other upgrades would take about a month.
“You hungry?” he asked, giving her hand a squeeze.
“Yeah.” She nodded.
“Callan said Megan, Donovan, and he are eating in the dining hall. Thought we could go together.”

“I need a shower,” she muttered, glancing down at herself.
“I could help with that,” he teased with a grin.
“Still here,” Russ said from behind them. “And still not interested in hearing about it.”
Callan, Megan, and Donovan were waiting just outside the elevator when they arrived.

“About time,” Megan exclaimed. “I’m starving, and if I’m starving, the baby’s starving. Not good for him. He’s a growing pup.”
Donovan rolled his eyes and looked at Lyra. “You left me alone with her again.”
“Shut it, Donnie.” Megan smacked his shoulder. “You ate all the donuts. I’d kick your ass if I wasn’t
the size of a bus.”
“Doesn’t seem fair to beat up the guy in the wheelchair,” Russ commented, smirking.
“I could take her,” Donovan muttered with another eye roll.
“Can we eat, please?” Callan looked exhausted.
“Trisha’s already inside. Let’s go.” Russ jerked his head toward the dining hall.
They walked in, and Lyra froze as her eyes swept the room. The tables had been rearranged. Instead of the usual tight rows, they were spaced apart, allowing easy wheelchair access. The table legs had been shifted slightly too, making more room underneath.
Donovan took it all in, then turned to Jake.
“You did this?” he asked softly, almost unsure.
Jake nodded. “Yeah. Figured it was past time. You should be able to eat here like any other pack
member.”
Lyra looked between them, her expression softening. She didn’t speak, but her eyes gleamed with quiet gratitude.
Megan grinned. “I like it. Feels welcoming. Like someone thought about everyone.”
Callan nodded. “It was a good call.”
Donovan let out a short laugh. “Thanks, Alpha.”
Jake smiled. “Don’t mention it. Let’s eat. I’m starving.”

After dinner, Jake took Lyra and Donovan home, but just as she turned toward the ramp, he caught

her hand and gently pulled her close, burying his face in her neck.
“Jake,” she murmured, “I smell terrible. I need a shower.”

“You smell delicious,” he groaned, his lips grazing her skin. “Will you stay with me at the pack house tonight? You can shower there.”
She leaned back slightly to meet his eyes. “Are you serious?”
“Dead serious.” He smirked. “I’m tired of sneaking you through the window when I have a perfectly
good, private space. Plus, as much as I enjoyed last night, I found leaves in some very weird places.” He wrinkled his nose, making her laugh.
She glanced at the house, then leaned up, catching his earlobe between her teeth. “Please,” he whispered, breath hitching.
“Alright,” she relented, her voice soft.
“Go pack a bag.” He let her go with a grin and a playful smack to her backside.
She shot him a glare over her shoulder but hurried inside. Less than ten minutes later, she returned,
a duffel bag slung over one shoulder, cheeks flushed and eyes bright.

Jake broke the kiss first, breathing hard, his forehead pressed to hers. “Shower. You said you
needed one.”
She smirked. “You said you’d help.”
“I know lots of ways to help in the shower.”
Lyra laughed breathlessly, tugging off his shirt as she walked backwards toward the bathroom. ” Come show me then.”
Jake turned the water on and turned to find her already naked. “Damn, that was fast,” he muttered, stripping quickly.
They stepped into the oversized shower, steam curling around them as water poured over their skin. Jake gently pinned her to the tile, his mouth trailing kisses down her throat and collarbone while his hands roamed her slick body. Lyra arched into him, fingers digging into his shoulders.
“You drive me crazy,” he murmured, lips brushing her chest. “I could spend hours just touching you.

“Fuck,” he groaned, burying his face in her neck, his fingers slipping down to her warm center. She
arched into his touch, her grip on his c**k tightening. He thrust into her hand, his hips matching the pace of his fingers as they slid in and out of her.
He pushed his thumb into her clit and she gasped, sinking her teeth into his shoulder. He jolted in
surprise.
“Trying to leave a mark?” he growled.
“Only fair,” she whispered. “You left plenty.”
He smiled against her skin. “I heal much faster than you. Mine will be gone in an hour.”
She nipped at his neck. “We’ll see.”
He increased the pace of his fingers, feeling her spasm, her hips grinding against his hand. She was close, he could feel it. But just as her body tensed, he pulled his hand away.
“What?” she gasped, letting go of his d**k to grab at his hand. “Go back!”
He planted his hands on either side of her head, pressing his forehead against hers until her head was pushed back in the tiles.
“Jake,” she pleaded, “I was almost there. Please.”
He grinned. “I like when you beg.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Asshole.”
“So I’ve been told.” He grabbed one of her hands back to his c**k. “Keep going.”
“You first.”
He licked his lips, watching her for a moment. Then he spun her around, pressing her front against the tiles. She gasped, pushing away but he pinned her there with his body, pressing his chest against her back.
“What are you doing?” she whined. “The tiles are freezing.”
He slid his length between her slick folds, the head brushing her clit. She groaned, scrambling for purchase on the tiles. He caught her hands, holding them above her head with one hand, the other gripping her hips.
She rocked her hips back against his with a harsh moan.
“You want me to move?” he murmured in her ear.

“Yes.” She rocked her hips again and he adjusted his, pinning her so she couldn’t move.
“Remember what I said?” He licked the shell of her ear. “I like when you beg.”
“Fuck you,” she snapped, pushing against him again.
He grinned against her cheek. “Exactly.”
“Jake, please. Come on.” She writhed beneath him. “I’m so close.”

“There you go.” He kissed her neck as he thrust between her folds, gliding between her legs, her p***y leaking and covering his c**k. The head kept brushing against her clit and she threw her head back on his shoulder. Her warm heat was too much. He was teetering on the edge.
“What are you doing to me?” he moaned.
“Don’t stop,” she begged, shameless now. “Please keep going. Jake.”
He slipped his hand around, finding her clit again. A few more strokes and she came, crying out his name, her body convulsing. She would’ve collapsed if he hadn’t been holding her.
Her release soaked his c**k, and that was all it took. He came with a loud growl, hips jerking, his release hot against her thighs and the tile wall.
They stayed like that for a moment, panting, clinging to each other.
Jake finally let go of her wrists and gently turned her around. Her eyes were wide, lips parted as she caught her breath.
He lifted her hands, inspecting her wrists. They were red. He frowned.
“Are you okay? Was that too much?”
She laughed. “Goddess, no. We can do that again.”
He chuckled, brushing a damp strand of hair from her cheek.
She rubbed her wrists. “Is it weird that I liked that? Being pinned?”
He kissed her softly. “No. It’s not weird at all. In fact…” He grinned. “It’s perfect. Fucking perfect.”
