Unfortunately the poor kid’s birthday happened to fall on the very day the zombie outbreak hit.
Iris tore open the gift boxes in a few swift movements, and inside, she found a branded diamond bracelet.
True to her “never leave empty–handed” principle, she confiscated all the gifts to unpack later.
With the gifts secured, she moved to the kitchen, planning to take whatever food she could find.
But there wasn’t much to grab.
Clearly, the resident had never lifted a finger in the kitchen.
Still, the fridge held plenty of snacks.
Iris didn’t hesitate. She took everything.
Imported chocolate, bottled drinks, boxed snacks, frozen Japanese wagyu, Australian lobster–nothing was left behind.
In the bedrooms, she also scooped up brand–new silk and down comforters. Within no time, she had cleared the two above–ground floors.

The moment she stepped in, something felt off.
Red and White let out low, warning growls.
It was as if they had spotted something truly terrifying.
But Iris only felt a cold, deathly silence.

She tapped the railing of the stairs to make noise, hoping to lure out any zombies.
But nothing stirred.
Step by careful step, she descended along the railing. On the last step…
“Roar!”
A stench of blood and decay hit her in the face.
The speed was incredible–far faster than any of the zombies she had encountered so far!
But the zombie lunged for nothing.
“Bang!”

sending it flying several feet away.
Iris had been fighting in the apocalypse for ten years. Her combat instincts didn’t come from getting tricked or taking losses. She learned from experience, not mistakes.
After Iris slammed the zombie away, she watched as it twisted into a grotesque, unnatural posture.
Its front limbs bent backward at impossible angles, its back pressed against the ground, yet its legs stayed splayed to the sides.
It arched its body like a giant, four–legged centipede, slowly rising. Long hair covered most of its face, but through the strands, a grayish–white eye fixed on Iris with dead intensity.
The basement lights flickered. The creature surged forward in a bizarre, nightmarish pose, moving so fast it left afterimages in the dim glow.
Iris‘ gaze sharpened, one thought flashing in her mind- speed–type mutated zombie.
In the blink of an eye, the four–legged zombie was right in front of her.
The female zombie’s hidden face opened into a massive, gaping maw, revealing the horrifying truth–her tongue was gone, and 3/6, her lips had been torn away.

A bloody, mangled abyss of a mouth loomed, two uneven rows of teeth snapping toward Iris.
“Thud!”
It bit down on a shovel.
The iron tool pierced through its mouth, pinning its head against the wall.
For a moment, the zombie went completely still, but its limbs thrashed violently.
Iris gripped the shovel and slammed it down with all her might.
“Crack!” It went still.
The zombie was fast. But Iris was faster.
Not only that, but her strength was extraordinary.
The shovel sank an inch into the reinforced concrete wall, something an ordinary person wouldn’t budge.
She pulled the shovel out, twisted it through the zombie’s skull, and as she withdrew it, a small, yellowish–white crystal glinted in front of her eyes.

Iris pulled a bottle of water from her space and rinsed off the surface. Immediately, the crystal began to shimmer.
It was a zombie crystal core.
High–level zombies all had them.
By the mid–to–late stages of the apocalypse, many bases used these cores as a form of currency, and some of the larger bases even bought them back at sky–high prices.
Previously, Iris had only reached the rank of a small squad leader. Without superpowers, there were lots of things she couldn’t get her hands on.
All she knew was that this familiar object was valuable.
At this moment, a familiar voice echoed in her mind.
“Beep–Zombie Crystal Core x1 detected! New points redemption unlocked!
“One standard Level–1 zombie crystal core is worth 100 points! Redeem now?”
Iris‘ eyes widened.
A crystal core could be exchanged for points!

Without a second thought, Iris hit redeem.
Her crystal core disappeared, and her mind immediately pinged with rewards.
“Beep–Reward: One First Aid Injector, one Emergency Recovery Pill!
“Beep–Reward: One combat suit!
“Beep–Reward: One pair of combat gloves!
“Beep–Reward: One set of combat boots!
“Beep–Reward: One revolver!”
Iris‘ jaw dropped.
She had just hit the jackpot!
