Chapter 53 Level Two Zombie
“Logan! Drive the marked truck down first, then bring the armored vehicle up here to clear the road. I need this overpass opened up so we can take those tankers with us!”
Logan didn’t hesitate for a second. “Copy that!”
Iris and her dogs took off running toward the gas station half a mile ahead. As she got closer, she finally spotted some zombies. The small gas station had a handful of them wandering around the parking lot and inside the convenience
store.
The mini–mart attached to the station was completely trashed.
She could tell what had happened. When all these vehicles got stuck on the highway, people had run everywhere trying to escape, and plenty of them had fled here looking for help or trying to loot supplies. Nobody who made it this far survived though.
They’d all turned into zombies, and because this spot had been the biggest gathering point along this stretch of road, a lot of the zombies from the highway had chased people here and never left. There were still quite a few hanging around.
Right now, they were just shuffling aimlessly around the gas. station, but the moment they heard Iris running tow them21 with all that living, breathing noise. every single one of them

instant.
“RAAAGH!”
“GRAAAH!”
Lucky charged ahead of the pack and launched himself at the nearest zombie, tackling it to the ground with one powerful leap.
One swipe of his paw sent the zombie’s head flying clean off. Right behind him, Iris‘ other dogs swarmed forward in a coordinated attack.
She’d left Summer back at the base to guard everything, but the ones she’d brought along were just as lethal.
These were all top–tier military dogs from back in the day, and they’d picked up zombie–killing skills without her even needing to train them much.
Iris had fitted each dog with custom armor that protected their vulnerable bellies and gave them way better defense. The pack tore through the approaching zombies in seconds, ripping them apart with brutal efficiency.
Meanwhile, Iris cut down the rest of the horde with ruthless speed, leaving nothing but dismembered corpses in her wake. She carved open every zombie’s forehead to check for crystal 2/6
cores.

By the time they reached the gas station, iris had collected a dozen or so cores and the zombies were mostly cleared out.
She didn’t even bother checking the convenience store attached to the station. Her priority was the fuel.
She glanced at Logan, and while he was busy driving one of the inventory vehicles down the ramp, she quickly absorbed two full tanker trucks into her storage space. She left one partially filled truck for Logan to drive back later.
As for the fuel in the station’s underground tanks and pumps, Iris tried something new. She attempted to mentally subdivide her storage space into separate sections since she didn’t have enough containers for all this fuel.
She’d only found a few empty barrels nearby. The moment the thought formed in her mind, her mental energy took control of the space and it actually started dividing itself into compartments.
Iris was thrilled. She remembered receiving her storage space in one cubic meter increments as rewards, so it made sense that she could partition it however she wanted.
Her theory was right on the money. The space split into several smaller cubes, and Iris grabbed the fuel nozzle and started pumping like crazy, absorbing everything directly into her
storage.

She’d collected roughly 16000 gallons of fuel, enough to fill about a thousand ears. That would last her a good long, while
Tris! I’m here to help!”
Logan jumped out of the vehicle. Right at that moment, they both felt the ground beneath their feet start to tremble.
The surface of the fuel in the few barrels Iris had been using for show rippled and shook. The vibrations felt like a giant taking steps, each footfall making the entire road shudder.
Logan tried to make sense of what he was feeling. Was it an earthquake?
“Move! Now!”
Iris‘ expression turned deadly serious. “Everyone in the vehicle!”
She grabbed two fuel barrels and sprinted for the armored truck. Her dogs bolted toward the vehicle at the same time.
The second they cleared the gas station, a massive boom shook the air. The spot where Iris had been standing exploded into rubble and dust.

humanoid creature weighing close to 900 pounds burst out21
When it came up empty, it lifted an apОmany its mass of saggy flesh.
Its face looked nothing like the skeletal, emaciated zombies they’d seen before.
This thing’s face was buried under layers and layers of fat that drooped down in heavy folds. One eye was the size of a pea, hidden somewhere in all that loose skin, while the other eye bulged outward grotesquely, like someone had shoved a massive chocolate ball into the middle of a pile of fat.
It looked like it might pop out and roll away at any second.
Its triple chin merged completely with its neck, and its entire body formed this disturbing pyramid shape, with rolls of excess flesh stacked on top of each other from head to toe. But the most disgusting part wasn’t even the layers of sagging fat. It was the maggots writhing in the crevices between the folds, and the tumor–like growths of rotting flesh that sprouted from
every gap.
After the mutant zombie missed its target, it let out a furious, ear–splitting screech. The sound was so intense it felt like someone was driving a thousand needles straight into their skulls.
A crushing wave of pressure radiated from the creature, and everyone who felt it couldn’t help but freeze up in terror. 5/6

That finally snapped Logan out of his shock. The second he heard her voice, he bolted toward the fuel tanker.
“Forget the tanker! We’re leaving!”
