Chapter 60 Zombie Factory
“Happy and Lucky, guard the entrance! Bark if you see anything weird!” Iris said. “Red and White, you’re with me. The rest of you follow Logan!”
The dogs barked in acknowledgment and quickly split into three teams. Two stayed outside the dorm building while Iris and Logan each took three with them.
The main entrance to the dorm stood wide open in front of Iris. Just inside was a row of turnstiles where employees had needed to swipe their keycards to get in and out.
The power was long dead now, and even if it wasn’t, Iris didn’t have a card anyway. They’d have to jump the gates.
She and Logan positioned themselves on opposite sides, carefully scanning their surroundings before vaulting over the
turnstiles.
The long hallway beyond was dead silent, with every door on the first floor tightly shut.
Iris tossed a heavy object down the corridor. It clattered loudly against the floor, and the sound echoed through the quiet
building.
Immediately, movement stirred behind every closed door.

the hallway itself stayed quiet.
Zombie moans and growls rose from behind the doors, low and hungry.
Iris waited cautiously in place for three minutes. Good. They were all trapped in their rooms with no wandering zombies in
the halls.
Once she’d confirmed the general situation, she led Logan to the first room and prepared to break it open. They’d start clearing systematically so they wouldn’t get surrounded by zombies suddenly appearing from behind while they were busy fighting.
Iris kicked the door open with a thunderous crash. A wave of putrid, rotting stench hit them immediately.
Four or five female zombies lurched toward the open doorway and the scent of fresh living flesh beyond it. They hadn’t seen food in way too long.
Every zombie had that bloodthirsty, crazed look in their clouded gray eyes. Their rotting, maggot–infested mouths made horrible gurgling sounds as they lunged forward, ready to tear apart and devour anything living.
Iris‘ blade flashed through the air in a blur of cold steel and water. Three zombie heads flew clean off their bodies, while the 2ther two got blasted through by high–pressure water 09:46

The moment all five corpses hit the ground, the dogs rushed in and dug their massive claws into the zombies‘ skulls, pulling out two tiny crystal cores about the size of rice grains for Iris.
“Good boys.”
Iris gave the dogs encouraging pats on their heads while scanning the dorm room interior.
It had a private bathroom, four sets of bunk beds, and each bed still had its bedding on it. She quickly processed this information and drew some conclusions.
The regular employee dorms housed eight people per room with a bathroom inside. Five zombies meant about half the occupants had probably been working the night shift when everything went to hell. Oh, and this was definitely the women’s dormitory.
She and Logan cleared one more room to confirm her theory and get familiar with the layout. Once they had the structure down, they split up and started breaking down doors on opposite sides of the hallway, systematically taking out zombies.
Iris kicked open another door and her blade immediately flashed through the room in cold ares of steel. The sword Logan had sharpened for her cut through zombies like they were made of butter.

and brutally. The zombies couldn’t even touch the edge of her clothes before losing their heads.
The three dogs would rush in to finish off any stragglers with a quick swipe, then dig out the crystal cores.
Three minutes per dorm room. In half an hour, she and Logan had cleared the entire first floor.
They repeated the process for the next five floors, and by the end of the morning, they’d cleared out the entire dormitory building.
The whole building was empty of living people, nothing but zombies. In that one morning, the two of them killed over a thousand zombies and collected more than 300 crystal cores.
There were still two more dormitory buildings to go. Iris used the same strategy and she and Logan worked side by side, clearing one building at a time.
After finishing each building, they took 10 to 15 minute breaks. During a quick rest in the armored vehicle, they heated up some sandwiches for lunch to refuel.
By evening, they’d successfully cleared all three zombie–infested dormitory buildings at the factory. They’d killed over 35 hundred zombies total and collected a thousand crystal cores.

suppressed the zombies and slowed their movements, but at night all their functions increased a hundredfold.
Even someone as experienced as Iris never operated after dark, and besides, she had enough crystal cores now to go back and exchange them for the scanning system.
“Let’s head back. We’ll come again tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Iris, Logan, and the dogs got in the vehicle and started to leave. That was when a horn blast caught their attention.
“Help us!”
“Please, help!”
On the roof of the factory’s main building, a group of twenty or thirty people was desperately calling for help. They’d hung a huge makeshift banner stitched together from clothing right where Iris could see it.
Logan spotted the survivors immediately and looked at Iris. “Iris!
