Chapter 76 They’re Friends
It wasn’t them who’d pressed for the basement—someone on the first underground floor had called the elevator up.
The elevator plummeted toward the basement.
Iris mashed every floor button inside, but the elevator car refused to stop, prioritizing the upward call from the bottom.
It carried all creatures inside toward the lowest level at breakneck speed.
Iris‘ mind raced as she stared at the elevator, which acted as if possessed, running through countless possibilities.
Ghosts were out of the question—even in an apocalypse overrun by zombies, supernatural beings didn’t exist.
Even if they did, a ghost that resorted to pranking with an elevator was pathetic.
With such power, it could’ve crashed the elevator and killed them all instead of playing mind games.
To Iris, anything that didn’t deal physical harm was trivial.
Ghosts never crossed her mind.

humans–but not ghosts.
She was far more terrifying than any spirit.
Eliminating elevator malfunction, the one who’d called it must be a physical entity–human or zombie.
Could zombies press elevator buttons?
Not intentionally, unless by accident.
Her uncertainty lay in whether this was the Zombie King’s lair.
If it was the legendary top–tier Zombie King from her previous life, operating an elevator might be possible.
Iris couldn’t be sure, though—she’d never visited this place or fought the Zombie King.
Moreover, it was still the early apocalypse. Even if a super zombie existed here, it shouldn’t be too powerful yet.
Humans were the more likely culprits.
She glanced at Logan.
A silent exchange of glances confirmed their mutual resolve.

The elevator descended floor by floor, finally opening at the
lowest level.
Its interior light cut through the pitch–black outside, casting the only glow in the darkness.
The person waiting outside froze–for inside the elevator stood six dogs.
The dogs pounced at the two figures waiting outside, three per person, striking fast and catching them off guard.
No one expected dogs in the abandoned building, but the two weren’t ordinary–they reacted quickly after being tackled, fighting back and reaching for their guns.
Just then, two blurs shot out of the elevator, one on each side, moving so fast they blurred.
With top–tier special forces skills, they disarmed the downed men in less than three seconds, cooperating seamlessly with the dogs.
With a click, Iris cocked her gun, pressing the cold barrel against one man’s forehead.
Once in control, she looked down to see a young soldier’s slightly immature face.

After a moment of stunned silence, he exclaimed excitedly,
“Iris?”
Iris was speechless.
It was Derek–the boy she’d often made cry.
“Logan! My Queen!” Tyler, pinned down by the dogs nearby, also recognized Iris and Logan.
Both stared in disbelief at their unexpected appearance.
Just then, an urgent voice echoed from the shadows ahead.
“Did the elevator arrive? We can’t hold on much longer!”
“Brett, look who’s here!” Derek called out.
Brett, fully armed and with a grave expression, ran over—only to freeze at the sight of Iris.
“I–Iris!” Surprise replaced the gravity on his face instantly.
“What are you waiting for? Has the elevator not come yet?” A sharp female voice rang out as a woman in military uniform rushed over.
At the sight of the extra people and dogs, her gaze turned cold. 4/5

“Who are you?” she asked.
“Captain Barton, they’re our friends!” Brett hurried to explain.
“Friends?” The woman looked confused, especially seeing Iris‘ dogs pinning her men and a gun pressed to one soldier’s head.
This hardly looked like a friendly visit.
No time remained for questions, though.
Bloodcurdling screams–half–human, half–beast–echoed from the darkness behind them, a guttural wail that defied
imagination.
