Chapter 78 Another Floor
At Louisa’s accusation, a glint flashed in Iris‘ beautiful eyes, and she smiled.
Derek and the others tensed even more.
Louisa had truly angered her.
Please stop courting death, they begged silently.
Just then, a deep, cold voice cut through the tension. “Captain
Barton!”
Damon’s expression was icy, his tone harsher than usual–far from his usual politeness.
He was clearly irritated.
“Captain Flint!” Louisa turned to him, seeking justification. “You saw it! She tried to kick me out! She’s trying to kill me— and all of us!”
“Head up first. Come swipe your card.” Damon tapped the elevator panel.
They were still stuck on the first basement floor, and the elevator required a card to operate.

Iris finally understood why her earlier attempts to stop the elevator had failed—a card was needed after selecting a floor.
“No! Go to B2!” Louisa insisted loudly.
Damon’s brows furrowed deeper, irritation mounting. “Captain Barton, we’ve suffered heavy losses and were ill–prepared. We leave now and return later.”
Fatigue showed on his face.
Several comrades had died, not from his team, but it was still weighing on him.
The mission had been reckless, supplies inadequate, and now they were weaponless.
He refused to risk more lives, especially with Iris and Logan present–he owed it to them to get them to safety.
“No!” Louisa pushed past him to the panel, swiping her card to illuminate the buttons.
“B2 is definitely where it’s hidden–and it’s safe! We just misjudged the floor! And don’t forget, in this operation, you’re just supporting us!”
At this point, Louisa glanced at Iris before turning back to Damon.

“We have to get it! If we don’t take it now, who knows what dangers lie ahead? Captain Flint, swipe your card!”
Damon pressed his lips tight, staring at her coldly.
After two seconds, he pulled another card from his pocket.
Both cards swiped together, unlocking a new button on the panel: B2.
Iris‘ brows lifted in surprise.
Another floor?
This pharmaceutical factory held secrets–requiring two administrator cards to access a hidden level.
This place might really be linked to the Zombie King.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Damon’s gaze.
Standing by the panel, he said, “We’ll see you safely up once we’re done.”
Iris met his eyes. “What if you don’t make it back?”
“Then you die with us. You shouldn’t have come here in the first place!” Louisa scoffed.

Iris had had enough.
She was about to silence Louisa when a hand reached over the crowd, offering her a card.
“Take my key card. If we don’t return, use it to get up,” Damon said.
Iris took it without hesitation.
Louisa panicked. “How could you-”
However, her words were cut off by Damon’s cold tone. “Captain Barton, focus on your mission.”
Just then, the elevator dinged as it reached B2.
Louisa fumed, shooting Iris a glare–only to see her waving Damon’s card tauntingly. It made her blood boil.
Her father was the commander of Base K1.
No one had ever dared treat her this way.
That damn woman had even kicked her out of the elevator!
She’d make Iris pay once the mission ended.

The elevator doors slid open slowly.
Everyone tensed instantly, Damon and his team assuming defensive stances, superpowers gathering in their palms—ready to strike at the first sign of danger.
However, what greeted them was silence. Complete silence.
Unlike B1, this floor had lights–bright as day, illuminating a pristine white space.
Polished white tiles stretched from the elevator to a large glass security door ahead, revealing rows of offices beyond.
Empty. Desolate.
“This is it!” Louisa exclaimed in delight at the sight of the hall.
