Chapter 79 Intend to Kill Her
Exchanging glances with his teammates, Damon stepped cautiously out of the elevator.
Professionalism was the hallmark of the special forces unit.
Only after a thorough sweep for external dangers did they signal for everyone inside to exit.
Following close behind, Iris left two dogs to patrol the elevator area. With Logan and four more dogs in tow, she sauntered casually after Damon’s team, as if out on a leisurely sightseeing
tour.
Noticing their presence at the glass door, Damon turned and asked sharply, “Why are you following us?”
“Just wandering around to take a look,” Iris replied lightly.
The team fell silent, dumbfounded.
Here they were on a top–priority mission, yet two bystanders trailed behind like it was a casual outing.
Is this appropriate?
For Iris, it was perfect. 1/5

Seizing the research factory was her goal, and now a team of advance scouts was clearing the way–why waste such a chance to map the facility through them?
Their obvious familiarity with the factory would save her
countless troubles.
“Ignore us. We won’t disturb your work–carry on as usual,” Iris told Damon, her tone unusually polite for someone she regarded as cannon fodder.
Fleeing at the first sign of trouble was no concern for her; pragmatism and superficial “amicability” were her defining
traits.
Louisa snapped, her temper flaring, “Who gave you permission to follow? Take your dogs and get out! No one’s permitted-”
Her words choked off mid–sentence as a blur cut through the crowd, materializing before her in the blink of an eye. A vice–like hand clamped around her neck, hoisting her high off the ground.
Suffocation crashed over her, leaving her gasping for every breath.
Helpless as a chicken awaiting slaughter, Louisa thrashed violently, her eyes wide with terror as they locked onto Iris. 2/5

Reasoning with fists was Iris‘ preferred method–especially in the apocalypse, where empty words served no purpose.
Half the soldiers reacted a second later, drawing their guns and summoning superpowers to train on Iris.
Instantly, Logan and the remaining dogs surged forward, forming a tight protective circle around her.
Tension crackled in the air, both sides locked in a rigid standoff.
Derek and the others froze, stunned by the sudden turn of events, unsure which side to take.
“Put down your weapons! Release her, and I’ll let you stay,” Damon ordered, his gaze shifting from Iris to the limp Louisa.
Iris hesitated for a second, then tossed Louisa roughly to the ground.
“Captain Barton!”
“Captain Barton!”
Her men swarmed around her, hauling her to her feet.
As she gasped for air, Louisa’s vision swam, her heart pounding so fiercely it threatened to burst from her throat. Cold sweat soaked through her uniform as uncontrollable tremor Taqked7

her body, a vivid five–fingered bruise branding her pale neck.
It took half a minute for her senses to recover.
She’d nearly died—that woman had truly intended to kill her.
When Damon’s voice reached her ears, “Are you okay?“, rage flared, but it died instantly at the sight of Iris‘ calm smile.
Fear rooted her to the spot.
“I–I’m fine,” she whispered, her voice shaking.
No one could face their would–be killer without fear, and she quickly settled down, docile and quiet.
“Let’s move out if you’re alright,” Damon said coldly, showing no sympathy or desire to avenge her.
Louisa lingered on the ground for a moment longer, then followed him silently, abandoning all attempts to give orders.
Derek and the others who knew Iris exchanged glances, shaking their heads and sighing in unison.
Another victim of Iris‘ tyranny–everyone knew provoking her spelled trouble.

Iris watched Louisa’s timid retreat with quiet satisfaction.
This was enough for now—she’d deal with the woman if Louisa acted out again.
Always in control, Iris balanced firmness with restraint. Killing their captain outright would be foolish; she needed these men as cannon fodder, and even old ties wouldn’t make Damon forgive such a slight.
It would only derail their mission and her own plans.
Still, she’d never swallow an insult–the annoying Louisa would get what she deserved.
