Chapter 7

Chapter 7

I absolutely would not allow Damon to remain in the position of my mate.

Damon still refused to agree, but it didn’t matter. I didn’t need his

agreement.

As long as I was willing to pay the price.

I had once been a Child of the Moon, but Children of the Moon cannot marry outside their bloodline. To be with Damon, I had

abandoned my heritage, and so the Moon Goddess had turned away from me.

But the Moon Goddess is the most forgiving deity. As long as I sincerely repented and paid the proper price, I could return to her

side.

I just needed time to gather my strength.

Soon, the day of Damon’s trial arrived.

All werewolves were subject to the council’s authority-even an Alpha was no exception.

Under the council’s interrogation, Damon confessed to everything he had done. Murdering a Child of the Moon carried the

penalty of death.

After the council announced their verdict, I appeared dressed in ceremonial robes, looking down at Damon from above. “Damon,

you deserve to die! Last night I communed with the Moon Goddess. She said your sins are too deep, that death would be too easy

for you. She commands you to atone among the werewolf clan, to suffer the ultimate torment!”

Damon had expected me to forgive him as our son’s mother, not to hear these words.

“Aria, we’re mates! I killed our boy, and I understand why you’re angry with me. But I hope your anger has limits. After I atone,

you’ll forgive me, won’t you?”

Was Damon still harboring such delusions even now?

I removed my ceremonial robes and shifted to my true form, revealing the scars covering my body.

Those abandoned by the Moon Goddess are unworthy to bathe in moonlight. What no one knew was that this was the Moon

Goddess’s test.

Unfortunately, no one had ever survived such marrow-deep torment. In the entire werewolf race, I was the only example.

“Children of the Moon do not marry outside their bloodline. Damon, our mate bond was invalid from the beginning! From now

on, you’ll be nothing but a criminal, while I am beyond your reach-like the difference between clouds and mud!”

Damon stared in disbelief at everything before him, tears of regret streaming down his face.

Finally, several werewolves dragged him away.

Chapter 7

I never spared him another glance. In my eyes, he was no different from a speck of dust.

Damon’s crimes were announced to the entire clan. Every werewolf knew he had murdered the noble Child of the Moon.

Every day, countless werewolves came specifically to torment him. He was chained in the street, able to do nothing but close his eyes and silently endure.

Soon, clever werewolves began unraveling the entire story piece by piece.

Serena could no longer hide in the shadows. Even though she desperately tried to conceal herself in the dark forest, someone

eventually dragged her out.

By now, she was no longer recognizable as human. For murdering a Child of the Moon, even if I didn’t actively seek revenge, the

Moon Goddess would not spare her.

Whenever moonlight touched the earth, wherever the light contacted Serena’s skin, it burned like fire.

Nothing could provide relief. Without the bloodline of a Child of the Moon, this torment would never end.

Serena and Damon were chained in the street like dogs.

Their only water source was rainwater and spit. The only food they received were scraps left by actual dogs.

Every day the two of them cursed each other in the street-where was their former passion and tenderness?

Damon prayed daily for someone to mercifully end his life quickly. This torture was more agonizing than death itself.

But everyone knew the crimes Damon had committed. Who would grant him such mercy?

Day after day of this torment, the once-mighty Alpha bowed his noble head, reduced to nothing more than a lowly cur.

Serena was willing to sell her body for even a single bite of food.

But except for the lowest-ranking werewolves who couldn’t find mates, no one was willing to pay for her services.

Every day Serena wore her chains, desperately writhing her bloated body to attract customers.

As for those two children of hers, they had fled the moment Serena was captured.

Ten years had passed in the blink of an eye. With werewolves’ long lifespans, the torment awaiting them had only just begun.

Meanwhile, I had joined the elder council and now stood at the pinnacle of power.

The Blackwood family? They were nothing more than dogs beneath my feet.

Under my suppression over these years, the Blackwood clan no longer deserved to be called royalty.

Every werewolf bearing the Blackwood name despised Damon. If not for him, they would still be noble Alphas instead of being

scorned by all werewolves.

Chapter 7

On the day of my coronation ceremony as head of the elder council, I walked through the streets wearing my crown.

Every werewolf looked at me with envious admiration.

Damon and Serena were no different. I stood in my unreachable high position.

But I never expected Damon would have the audacity to approach me!

“Aria, I’ve atoned for ten years now. Surely you can forgive me?”

“I’ve been punished enough. Can we go back to how things were before?”

I couldn’t be bothered to listen to his idiotic rambling. I had no idea what had blinded me in the past to make me fall for him.

“Damon! Has your brain been stuffed with dog shit?”!

I turned and walked away. Naturally, someone competent would handle cleaning him up for me.

Damon was pathetically driven away.

“You dare to covet the Child of the Moon? Know your place!”

“Lowest-ranking wolf! You really love to dream, don’t you? If I were the Child of the Moon, I would have killed you long ago instead of letting you live until now!”

Damon wandered the streets in despair. Even though he had regained his freedom, not a single werewolf respected him.

Everyone knew what that face of his had done. Damon could no longer bear all those strange looks.

He could only hide himself in the filthy garbage dump.

But while scavenging for food in the dump, he unexpectedly encountered Serena.

When enemies meet, their hatred burns especially bright.

The former lovers now fought viciously over a single bite of food.

“Damon! For the sake of the two children I bore you, give this to me!”

Serena shouldn’t have mentioned the children. The moment she did, Damon thought of our son. “You killed our boy! Serena, you’re the bitch who caused this! If not for you, how would I have fallen to this state!”

If their fighting hadn’t been so loud that it alerted the dump supervisor, Damon probably would have killed Serena right then and there.

From that day forward, Damon grew increasingly filled with regret. He hated himself for hurting his beloved for the sake of a half-breed Omega. Otherwise, he would be the one standing in that high position!

But… fate was cruel in its mockery.
