Chapter 128

After my kidnapping and Max’s outburst at the Cooper Mansion, I was very rattled. I took some time off work and stayed in bed for a few days. The local news reported a massacre at a nightclub in Greenwoods, but police didn’t find any evidence of how it happened. They speculated it was local gang wars as one of the bodies found

belonged to a local gangster

I turned off the news and tried not to think about what all had happened. Greg/Charlie was still out there even though his employer wasn’t. I hadn’t heard from my mother, and honestly, I was relieved. I had anticipated a call from her since Novo was now gone, but she had disappeared into thin air

Taylor came over and said that Vince made it home. He only remembered Max snapping his fingers before he blacked out. Apparently Vince woke up in his car to the police sirens the next morning. Vince knew about Blake and his inhuman life, but the idiot

was trying to get himself killed

Much to Blake’s dislike, I had kept my distance from him. Even though Blake wasn’t really at fault, I still had the right to know about this twin bond thing. I wanted him to learn that it wasn’t okay to hide things from me regardless of their importance. If he wanted me to be part of his supernatural world, he needed to trust I could handle it

While he was home, I stayed in my room watching tv or working on

my laptop. He would bring me food and try to talk to me, but

refused to. This went on for four days

I was already worried about what Max would do next. From the way

he reacted at the Cooper Mansion, I knew he wasn’t just going to lay

low and sulk. I couldn’t figure out how to rectify this problem. I was

the cause of it, and I wanted to make it better. I just didn’t know how

When I opened my bedroom door, Blake’s voice travelled down the

hallway, echoing from the kitchen. I quickly looked at the time. 10

am, the clock flashed

Why was he still home at this time

I contemplated getting back into bed, but my stomach grumbled.

walked down the hallway, and Blake’s voice got louder. He was sitting

on the bar stool with his laptop in front of him. He was on the phone

with someone and kept flipping through a file. I stopped in my tracks

when I saw he was shirtless. He was wearing just his pajama bottoms

His naked back muscles tightened and loosened at his movements

and for a second, I stood there admiring the fine piece of work that

man was

He went still for a second, and I knew he could sense me. He looked

over his shoulder and then turned back to his work. I walked over to

the coffee machine and made myself a cup, keeping my back to him

He had stopped talking on the phone, and I heard him close the files

Rosy, we need to talkhe used my name. That was weird. No

matter how annoyed he was, he always called me Angel. I slowly

turned around, leaning against the counter

I have to go away for a few days, and I don’t want you to be left

alone. Would you like to come with me?”

No thanks. I’ll be fine here. Taylor and Rocky are across the hall

I’m sure I’ll be fine for a few daysI turned around and opened the

fridge to get some breakfast. There in the middle of the shelves, was

small cake

That cake wasn’t there last night. I picked up the cake and read the

top

Happy Birthday Baby”

I felt two arms wrap around me. Blake’s warm embrace

overwhelmed me

Happy birthday Rosyhe whispered. His hot breath fanned down

my neck brushing against my mark. I felt a shiver run through me

However, my mark wasn’t entirely sensual like it usually would be at

Blake’s touch. It had been a few days since Blake had touched me like

this, and I knew I hadn’t forgotten the way his slightest touch made

my mark feel

I didn’t forget. I know you’re mad at me, but it’s my baby’s

birthday. Let’s put it all aside today, please.I could hear the

desperation in his voice

I moved out of his arms and put the cake on the counter
