Chapter 88
Monday morning was hell. I was exhausted from the lack of sleep and no amount of coffee was fixing it. Matters got worse after I got to work. Everyone and I mean everyone, wanted to congratulate me on the engagement. The walk from the lift to my office took 30 minutes
instead of the normal 30 seconds.
When I finally got to my office, I had a pissed off PA. She was mad at me for not telling her about my relationship with Blake. She interrogated me for a good 30 minutes before huffing and walking away to get me breakfast. I was late for 3 meetings and my head was pounding. Kaitlin kept trying to corner me to quiz me as well but I tactfully avoided her as much as possible.
By lunchtime, I was infuriated. People kept interrupting my meetings to talk to me about the engagement and I was behind on all my jobs for the day. I felt like I had accomplished nothing. What made me even angrier was watching Blake sit in his office comfortably doing his work without any interruptions. No one was bothering him and I was ready to bite someone’s head off.
I had a 1 pm team meeting for the next project we had coming up. I had allocated a team of 8 staff members that were going to be leading the project. I always had a team meeting before the project started so that I could make sure they understood the project and were on the

right track.
The head of the team, Carol, was someone that loved to be super
prepared. She had asked me to go over some questions they had come across while researching the project. So, at 1 pm, I stood in front of a whiteboard with a grumbling tummy, answering questions and giving
more information to my team.
“Okay, so I just taking the time to re–evaluate the pros and cons that we have just come up with. If you think there should be more, please feel free to add them” I had my back to the team and I
scribbled stuff on the flow chart I had made on the whiteboard.
“Ma’am” someone called.
“Yeah?”
“How about we have a breakdown of some of the pros and cons? Do
you think it would help us evaluate the perimeters?”
“That’s a very good suggestion. However, may-…” I turned around
to face whoever had spoken but my eyes landed on a familiar pair of
blue eyes sitting at the end of the table.
“Mr Cooper, how nice of you to join us. To what do we owe this
pleasure?”

“Just wanted to pop in and see how you guys do these famous team
meetings. I’ve been told you are the only manager that has constant
catch–ups with her team and is very involved in all the projects you
are given. Plus, I’m hungry and wanted you to join me for lunch” he
gave me a sweet smile.
I heard a few throats being cleared and a couple of giggles.
ག་
I took a deep breath in and pinched the bridge of my nose trying to
calm myself down. He was testing my patience today.
“It’s a hard pass on the lunch, Mr Cooper, thank you very much.
Some of us have to work for a living and I have a lot of work to do but
you are welcome to stay with us for the rest of the meeting.” My voice
was low and stern. I could even hear the menacing tone in it. I
reminded myself that he was still my boss and I had to keep it
professional.
“Alright, I can tell when I’m not wanted. I shall go find someone
else to have lunch with then. Enjoy the rest of your meeting
everyone” he got up and walked out of the room.
I closed my eyes and took deep breaths. My head was pounding even more now and I wanted to curl up in a ball and cry.
“Carol, I think I’ve answered all the questions you had for me. Can

you please take over from here before I burst a nerve?”
