When we got to where I parked the car, I went towards Athena’s door and opened it for her.
She stepped in, her eyes catching mine for a moment, and I closed the door before heading to
my side.
The smell of smoke from the fire lingered on our clothes, a reminder of what we’d just done.
The moment I got in, I noticed she staring at me in a way that wasn’t new. I’d seen that look
before, the one that made heat pool in my stomach.
I moved towards her and placed a kiss on her forehead. I was grateful for the fact that we’d
closed that version of our lives and could start new.
A version where she wouldn’t be scared of Daxon ever again.
As we burnt their bodies, I couldn’t help but think about how Jess had lost her life together with our child in her womb. Her murderers were dead and Athena had killed them, which almost made me
lose her too.
That thought twisted in my gut every time it came up. I’d come so close to losing everything
again.
I’d watched her during the ceremony, seen the way she was looking at me when I was giving the speech. She had that same look now, but I knew she wouldn’t do anything back there, not where
everyone was gathered.
Her hand moved to my chest, sliding under my shirt in a way that made my breath catch.
“You were hot up there when you were making your speech,‘ she said, her voice low and teasing. “I couldn’t keep my eyes off you.”
I was surprised because Athena wasn’t always this vocal. Even yesterday when she’d told me she wanted something kinky, I’d been shocked. But I’d given in because I wanted to give her what she
wanted.

I’d loved every part of yesterday.
Rough sex had always been what I liked but Jess didn’t like it, so I stopped. Since then, I’d
buried that part of me and forgotten about it.
But Athena had brought it out yesterday. She’d woken up what I’d kept hidden for years.
Still, like I said earlier today, it wouldn’t happen again. She deserved the best and nothing but
the best. She deserved to be treated right, not used the way I’d used her last night.
“Athena,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady as her hand moved across my chest. “We should
get home.”
“Why?” she asked, and there was something in her voice that made me look at her more closely.
Her pupils were dilated and her cheeks were flushed. She was breathing faster than normal and
her skin looked warm.
“Are you okay?” I asked, concerned.
“I’m fine,” she said, but her hand moved lower, down to my stomach, and I had to bite back a
groan. “Better than fine actually.”
“Athena,” I warned, but my voice came out rougher than I intended.
She leaned closer, her lips almost touching my ear. “I want you,” she whispered. “Right now.”
My hands gripped the steering wheel hard enough that my knuckles turned white. I wanted her
too, wanted her so badly it was almost painful, but not like this. Not in a car where anyone could
see.
“We can’t,” I said, trying to sound firm. “Not her.”
“Why not?” she asked, and her hand moved even lower, and I had to grab her wrist to stop her.
“Because we’re in a parking area,” I said through gritted teeth. “And because you deserve better
than this.”
She pulled her hand away from my grip and before I could stop her, she’d unbuckled her seatbelt
and moved closer, climbing over the console between us.

Chapter 245
“Athena, what are you doing?” I asked, but I already knew.
She positioned herself on my lap, straddling me and I could feel the heat of her through our
clothes.
“I’m taking what I want,” she said, and then her lips were on mine.
