Chapter 1
My grandmother was the richest person in Althoria, and I was her only granddaughter, yet my two
older brothers had their kept woman pretending to be me.
Before the Ironclad Group’s centennial celebration began, Tiffany Montgomery had already slipped
into the seat reserved for the family heiress and put on a show for me.
Tiffany gave a mocking little sigh. “If Joseph and Oliver hadn’t insisted I bring you so you could see
how the other half lives, a poor student like you would never set foot inside the Ironclad Group,”
she said, with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “Now be sensible and don’t make a scene. If you do, they’ll make sure you never walk the same again.”
In my previous life I had been timid and cowardly, always yielding to Tiffany because my brothers
threatened me. But this time I had been reborn.
Tiffany kept spouting nonsense, so I didn’t bother with words. I kicked her hard, sending her stumbling back three feet.
“Who do you think you are?” I snapped. “You’re nothing but a trash, and you’ve got the nerve to
lecture me?”

My outburst turned every head in the ballroom immediately.
My eldest brother, Joseph Lane, immediately rushed over and scooped Tiffany into his arms, looking at her with concern, while my second brother, Oliver Lane, slapped me twice.
Seeing their pampered little pet spoiled for years sent stumbling back by me, both brothers were practically heartbroken, glaring at me in fury.
“Charlotte, you must be out of your mind. How dare you lay a hand on our sister!”
Facing my two aggressive brothers, I felt how foolish I had been before to imagine any sibling
affection from them.
I pointed at Tiffany, who they shielded in their arms, and said, my tone full of contempt.
“She’s just your kept woman, nothing more. I’m the heiress of the Ironclad Group, my grandmother’s true granddaughter. Am I not qualified to put her in her place?”
Joseph’s face flushed red with anger at my words and he shoved me to the floor.

“Charlotte, Tiffany helped pay for your schooling. And you stand here spouting nonsense,” he said.
“Everyone here listen carefully, Tiffany is my grandmother’s true granddaughter, the Ironclad Group’s heiress.”
I stared at Joseph in disbelief.
“She’s my grandmother’s true granddaughter? The Ironclad Group’s heiress?”
“How could you say that?” I shot back, “You’ve got some nerve.‘
Oliver rolled his eyes and looked at me with disgust. “Charlotte, did you forget to take your meds today? Are you having another episode?”
Tiffany began to fake sobs. “It’s all my fault. I knew Charlotte had issues, and I still brought her
here.”
Their twisted version of events played out loud enough for everyone in the hall to hear. In an
instant, the crowd turned on me with contempt.
“So Charlotte’s just a poor student sponsored by the heiress? No wonder she looked so shabby.”
“What a kind and innocent heiress. She even sponsors people with mental problems and bad
intentions.”
Joseph then called for the Ironclad Group’s assistant, Frank Davis.
“You, take Charlotte Montgomery out and never let her set foot in the Ironclad Group again without my permission,” he ordered.
I looked at Frank as he approached with security guards.
“Frank, you’ve worked beside my father for years.” I said, “Why can’t you tell who the real heiress
is either?”
Frank immediately stopped in his tracks, frozen in place, clearly torn. “I… Edon’t know what to
say.”
Oliver glared at him with displeasure. “Frank, Joseph will be the Ironclad Group’s future heir. If you disobey him now, you’ll be out.”
Frank paled. He glanced at me, helpless. “Miss Montgomery, I have a family. I can’t risk my job. Please, don’t make this harder than it has to be. Please come with us.”

With that, he motioned to the guards to drag me away. As several people closed in, I grabbed the vase from the table and hurled it at them with all my strength.
“I’m not just the Ironclad Group’s heiress,” I shouted, “I’m the company’s sole heir. Try to lay a hand on me and you’ll regret it!”
