His words were sleazy, his eyes worse. One hand gripped her wrist. The other? He ran it suggestively across his own chest, as if trying to look sexy.
Elena felt her stomach churn. Her voice dropped several degrees. “Let go.”
“Aww, don’t be like that,” he said, leaning in. “You’re dressed all classy out here. Got me wondering what you’re like in bed.”
He reached for her face. Elena didn’t even flinch. She slapped him–hard. Then, without missing a beat, she stomped on his foot with her heel.
The guy screamed, stumbling back, hands flying to his face and foot, crying out in pain. Elena yanked her arm free and bolted toward Alexander. But she’d underestimated the guy’s speed.
Her scalp burned. The man had chased after her, grabbed a fistful of her hair, and yanked her backward hard.
“You think you can hit me and walk away?” he yelled. “Do you even know who I am? You stuck–up bitch, you’re gonna find out real quick what a man can do to a woman like you!”
He was dragging her by the hair toward one of the empty VIP rooms. Elena screamed, but the club’s music was deafening. No one noticed a thing.
She struggled, fought, but he was stronger. She couldn’t break free. They were getting farther from the crowd. Closer to danger.
Just as she was about to be dragged inside the room, eyes squeezed shut–Boom.
Alexander came out of nowhere, and kicked the guy straight in the lower back. The man flew forward, crashing into the wall with a sickening thud.
“You-” he started to yell-
Then he looked up. And froze.
“Mr… Mr. Kingsley…”
His entire face went pale. He started trembling. Why the hell is Alexander here?
Elena’s hair was a mess, her blouse wrinkled from the struggle. She walked over, breathing hard, and stood behind Alexander.
“You okay?” he asked without looking back.
Elena winced, touching her scalp. “I’ll live.”
Finally, the commotion drew a crowd. A group of guys pushed through, shouting, “Who the hell just touched my boy? You got a death wish?”
Leading them was the red–haired man from earlier–Adrian. He was holding a wine bottle like a weapon, ready to throw down. Elena’s stomach dropped. There were at least ten of them.
Could Alexander handle that? She edged toward him, whispering, “Maybe we should… leave?”

He didn’t even look phased. When had he lit that cigarette?
Elena blinked. Seriously? Now?

She reached out, ready to grab his wrist and run. Too late. The group had already surrounded them.
This was going to get ugly. Or so she thought.
Crash.
The wine bottle slipped from Adrian’s hand and shattered on the floor. He stared at Alexander like he’d seen a ghost.
…Alexander? What the hell are you doing here?”
Adrian’s eyes practically popped out of his head. He stood frozen by the bar, jaw slack.
What the hell is Alexander doing here?In a bar? With a woman?!
His cousin–Alexander, the most cold–blooded, self–controlled man he knew–was standing under neon lights, arm around a woman like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Huh? Elena blinked and looked between the two of them.
Took her a beat, but she finally caught it–the sharp jawline, the way their eyes narrowed the same way when they were annoyed.
There was definitely a resemblance. Alexander didn’t bother answering Adrian’s stunned look.
Instead, he nodded toward the guy who had grabbed Elena earlier. “You know him?”
Adrian nodded nervously.
Then I don’t want to see him here again.” Alexander’s tone was calm–but final.
Adrian nodded so fast it looked like whiplash. “Absolutely. Say no more.” He didn’t dare say another word.
Alexander turned and walked out of the club, Elena right behind him. Outside, the air was cooler. A breeze had picked up.
“Get in.”
He had already opened the car door before she could say anything. She’d thought this was goodbye. Apparently not.
