It would only make Victor and Victoria hate her more.

Elena didn’t even blink. While the tension in the room thickened, she looked amused, almost like she found the whole situation a joke.
“So let me get this straight,” she said, voice sharp and clear. “You got caught getting cozy with Nathan’s assistant, and now you’re projecting that onto me and Ran? Seriously? What century are you stuck in? Whatever you’ve wrapped around your brain, take it off You’re twisting every normal conversation into some soap opera.”
Her tone cut straight through the pretense. She didn’t hold back. Not anymore.
Camille flushed scarlet. She hadn’t expected Elena to strike so directly. “You know whether you did or not,” she snapped.
Her eyes darted to Nathan, silently pleading for backup.
But Nathan didn’t bite. Instead, his gaze lingered on Elema, curious, almost smug, like he’d just confirmed something.
She still cares. She has to. That kind of jealousy doesn’t come from indifference.
“Of course I know,” Elena said coolly, tilting her chin slightly. “Alexander asked for me personally. Ryan handles his schedule, so yeah, I’ve worked with him a lot. If you still don’t believe me, here-” She pulled up Alexander’s number on her phone and placed it on the coffee table.
“Go ahead. Call him. Ask.”
Silence. No one dared. Who in their right mind wanted to call that man and accuse his assistant of something? That was just begging for trouble.
Catherine was the first to step in, trying to smooth things over.
“Well, if it’s not true, that’s good. We don’t want any tension between the families. Let’s just forget it happened. Nathan, don’t get upset.”
“Of course, Mom,” Nathan replied, sounding much calmer now. But Elena wasn’t done.
She leaned back, her voice calm but unmistakably firm. So that’s it? Just ‘forget it‘? Camille spread a rumor that I was cheating, in front of my husband and my in–laws, because she couldn’t handle getting reprimanded by Alexander. And now I’m supposed to pretend it didn’t happen?”
She turned to Camille, her expression cold. “You owe me an apology.”
“She was just worried about you,” Catherine jumped in. “She didn’t mean any harm.”
She instinctively pulled Camille closer, shielding her like always.
Richard, for once, said nothing. He just stared at Elena, his tired eyes giving away nothing.
“If Camille was really worried,” Elena continued, “she should’ve come to me. But instead, she ran straight to Nathan. Why? Because they’ve been talking behind my back?”
Her gaze locked on Nathan. “You two sure seem to have a lot of private conversations.”

Nathan tensed.
“Of course not,” he said quickly. “She’s only staying at the house to help take care of my mom. I’ve been swamped with work. We barely see each other. And ever when she told me this nonsense, I didn’t believe it for a second. Right, babe?”
He put his arm around Elena’s shoulder, playing the loving husband. “Camille, say you’re sorry,” he said, still smiling.
Camille’s face turned pale. Apologize to Elena? She’d rather be hit by a bus.
She bit her lip and stayed silent. “You didn’t hear what she said?” Richard spoke suddenly.
Both Camille and Catherine froze.
Richard had always doted on Camille, turned a blind eye to every cruel thing she did to Elena. Now he was siding with her?
Camille hesitated, but Richard’s stare was heavy. Grinding her teeth, she muttered, “I misunderstood. I’m sorry.”
Elena didn’t respond, but Catherine stepped in again. “We’re family. This isn’t a big deal. Let’s all calm down and have dinner.”
They slowly moved to the dining room. The table was covered in Camille’s favorite dishes. Elena scanned the spread, her appetite instantly gone.
“You all eat. I’m good.”
“What now?” Catherine snapped.
Grace, one of the house staff, stepped forward after checking the dishes. “Miss Sterling doesn’t eat ginger.”
That was true. Elena couldn’t stand the taste–or even the smell. Every dish on the table had ginger in it.
“Oh, I forgot,” Catherine said lightly. “Camille loves ginger. She always says it tastes better here than abroad. If you don’t like it, just pick it out.”
She didn’t even try to hide the favoritism.
“Go make her a bowl of noodles,” Richard said to Grace.
Catherine shot him a look, grumbling under her breath.
Elena sat down anyway. She wanted to see what Richard was up to. He’d never lifted a finger for her before. No way this was about fatherly love.
Grace returned with a bowl of noodles–simple, clean, with an egg on top.
Elena ate quietly. Across the table, Camille was being as loud and showy as possible.
“Mom, can you peel my shrimp? My new nails are too long.”
“You and those nails. How do you even type at work?”

“I lose my job, you’ll take care of me, right?” Camille ggled.
Elena gripped her fork tighter. The noodles suddenly didn’t taste like much of anything,
