I lost myself in him, and he in me.
We moved together, a tangled mess of passion and need, our bodies desperate as if this were both our first and last time. As if nothing else mattered. As if we had never known pain, betrayal, or heartbreak.
Each kiss was a silent confession.
Each touch, a plea.
A prayer.
And for those fleeting moments, I believed in it. I believed in us.
By the time we finally collapsed into each other, breathless and spent, I lay nestled in Dominic’s arms, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. His warmth surrounded me, his strong arms wrapped protectively around me, and for the first time in forever, I felt… safe.
The baby shifted inside me, settling, and a soft smile played on my lips.
Dominic pressed a lingering kiss to my forehead, his hold on me tightening slightly. “I’ll protect you,” he murmured against my skin. “You and our child… I’ll keep you safe within the pack.”
Something in his voice–his certainty, his promise–made me believe him.
Made me want to believe him.
For a single, fragile moment, I allowed myself to hope.
Maybe… maybe this was the turning point.
Maybe now he finally saw the real me.
Maybe now that all the misunderstandings were behind us, we could move forward.
Maybe now he knew I was innocent.
Maybe… he could finally love me.
I lifted my gaze to meet his, searching for the truth in his golden eyes. “Dominic,” I whispered hesitantly. “Now that there’s a witness… now that we know Evelyn killed Elder Alyosha… what do you plan to do with her?”

I stared at him in disbelief, my heart pounding painfully in my chest.
He knew.
He knew Evelyn was the one who killed Alyosha.
Yet, he was protecting her.
My throat tightened as a deep, unbearable pain spread through me.
“You’re defending her?” I whispered. “Even after everything?”
Dominic let out a heavy breath, sitting up. “This conversation is over, Olivia.”

“No,” I shot back, sitting up as well, my anger bubbling to the surface. “We’re not done.”

His eyes flickered with warning. “Drop it.”
I shook my head, my hands trembling. “Do you even hear yourself? I was thrown into a dungeon for a crime I didn’t commit! I was tortured, humiliated, made to suffer while she walked free! And you-” My voice wavered. “You let it happen.”
Dominic ran a hand through his hair, clearly frustrated. “You’re making this bigger than
needs to be.”
I let out a hollow laugh. “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize that being accused of murder and nearly losing my child weren’t a big deal to you.”
His eyes flashed with irritation. “You think this is easy for me?”
“Easy?” I repeated, my voice rising. “You still love her, don’t you?”
Silence.
His lack of response was answer enough.
Tears burned in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall.
“You will never see me, will you?” My voice cracked, but I pushed through. No matter what I do, no matter what I prove, you will always

His gaze hardened, and then, as if he was reaching for a lifeline, he said something that shattered whatever was left of my faith in him.
“You and Elder Alyosha were close,” he muttered. “Too close. Maybe he had a reason to fake the Phoenix Mark for you.”
1 sucked in a sharp breath, my entire body going still.
My ears rang
My mind went blank.
“What?”
Dominic looked at me then, and for the first time, I didn’t see my mate.
I saw a man who would never believe me.
A man who would always suspect me.
A man who would never love me.

I swallowed back the lump in my throat, blinking rapidly as my vision blurred with unshed tears.
I had spent so many years–so many damn years–trying to make him love me and be enough for him.
But I never would be.
It didn’t matter what I did.
It didn’t matter how much I suffered.
He would never choose me.
I exhaled slowly, closing my eyes. When I opened them again, something inside me had changed.
I wasn’t going to beg anymore.

My wolf’s vice echoed in my head, sharp with frustration. He had been aller me ever since that argument I had with Olivia.
You pushed her away again. Accused her. Hurt her.”
Lelenched my jaw, gripping the edge of my desk. I knew that.
“Do you?‘ my wolf sneered. ‘Because if you did, you wouldn’t be here making excuses. You wouldn’t be trying to justify the way you keep
breaking her
My body tensed. She was attacking Evelyn again. If she hadn’t brought it up, I wouldn’t have lost my temper.
‘Pathetic excuse,” my wolf snapped. “That woman nearly destroyed her, made everyone believe Olivia was a murderer, and wanted you to execute her–even after knowing she was with pup–and yet you still defend her?! She accused Olivia of something she didn’t do. If it was simply an accident, then she should have come clean and not accused someone else.”
I growled under my breath. It wasn’t that simple.
“It is,” he snarled, “You just refuse to see it.”
I exhaled heavily, pressing my fingers against my temples. Olivia’s face flashed in my mind–her eyes filled with betrayal, the way she had looked at me as if I had shattered whatever little hope she had left.
The image made something twist painfully in my chest.
My wolf was right.
Again.
I had been cruel, Unforgivably so.
And for what? For a lie? I was at fault too. I judged her too quickly, without proper investigation. And that too because Evelyn said so?
I had made a mistake.
A grave one.
‘Fix it. Before it’s too late.”
I sighed. I would.
I wasn’t good with words–not when it came to Olivia. But maybe I could show her.
I could only think of one thing at the moment.
