Chapter 49 THE BROKEN TRUTH
OLIVIA’S POV
When I woke, the first thing I felt was the pounding ache in my head. My body was stiff, weak–every breath was a struggle. I blinked through the dim, musty light, and my eyes adjusted to the space. Cold concrete walls. A flickering light above. Chains.
And her. That only familiar face that I didn’t want to see right now with something sadistic glinting in her eyes.
Evelyn.
She stood before me like a ghost from my worst nightmares–elegant, poised, and grinning like a serpent who had finally swallowed its prey. She lit a cigarette and instead of taking a puff, she embedded the burning end of it into my skin.
“Finally awake, Sleeping Beauty,” she drawled, arms crossed as she eyed me with mock sympathy. “You’ve been quite the handful, you know. I expected you to break sooner.”
My mouth was dry. I tried to speak, but only a rasp escaped. She crouched in front of me, brushing my hair back with mock
tenderness.
“You should see yourself,” she whispered. “You look pathetic and I am liking it.“.
“Not more than you.” I retorted in a weak voice and instead of getting she let out a bitter laugh.
I had a hunch that she might be the one who orchestrated all this but the main question is why?
She already has Dominic wrapped around her fingers, the whole pack accepted her whole heartedly and still she is doing all this.
I clenched my fists against the ropes digging into my wrists. “Why… why are you doing this?”
She smirked, standing again. “Because it was always supposed to be me. The Phoenix Luna. Dominic’s true mate. Not some… orphan girl with a fake mark.”
“You stole everything from me, you already know that my mark was not fake,” I whispered, the realization dawning with every
syllable.
“Oh, sweetheart,” she giggled, tossing her perfectly styled hair over one shoulder. “You never had anything to begin with. Instead you should put it like this, that I let you borrow all of this for the time being just to snatch it back.”
My heart pounded as she stepped aside and the next thing I saw in her hand were pliers. They were huge and I knew that she was going to use them as another torture method for me. She walked around me, my back now facing her and took my hands in her.
“These nails, long, pretty and strong. But not anymore.” She mocked and then in a swift motion plucked one of them out. I was already weak, I couldn’t save myself from her torture, but all I could do was pray for a worse end for her.
“I let you all borrow it for the time being Olivia and you dare think that all of this belong to you. You were just a block in my path, that I now want to destroy only.” She confessed her true intentions.
“You think, Dominic will let you go once find out,” I spat.
“And who is going to tell him? You? I don’t think so, considering the fact that you are going to die soon and even if he doesn’t marry me I still won’t let you have him.” She said with a smirk–and that’s when I saw it. My bracelet.
My bracelet.
The silver chain I lost the night Dominic was attacked by rogues. The one that had slipped from my wrist as I held his bloodied hands, whispering desperate prayers that he’d survive.
She wore it now. Casually. Like it was hers.
A sharp breath escaped me as I lunged forward, snatching it from her wrist with trembling fingers.

“You have no right on Dominic nor on this bracelet,” I spat.
But Evelyn only laughed. “And what are you going to do with it now? You’re going to die in here, Olivia. You’ll never leave this place. Dominic will grieve. But I’ll be there to comfort him. Again.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. Not in front of her. Not again.
“You think Dominic will believe you forever?” I asked, my voice shaking. “One day, the truth will come out.”
She tilted her head. “Oh, honey. You think he doesn’t already know you’re here?”
I stilled.
“What… what did you say?”
Evelyn’s smile widened, cruel and gleaming. “You heard me. Dominic knows. He knows you’ve been taken, and he didn’t come. Not for you. Not even for the baby.”
I felt something shatter inside me. Like my heart had collapsed into itself, turning into a black hole of grief and disbelief.
No. That couldn’t be true.
He had to care. Somewhere, deep down–he had to.
Didn’t he?
“You want to see something interesting?” Evelyn purred, stepping back and signaling to one of the masked men standing guard by the door.
He pulled out a phone, unlocked it, and put it on speaker.
The line rang once.
Twice.
And then-
“Where is she?!”
Dominic’s voice.
My breath caught.
“You touch her, and I will destroy everything you love,” he snarled.
My heart raced. He did care. He came. He-
“I’m warning you. You lay a single finger on my Luna, and I will tear your pack apart.”
I froze.
Luna?
He meant Evelyn.
I looked up–and Evelyn was already watching me, her smile smug, victorious.
“Heartbreaking, isn’t it?” she whispered. “That even when you’re the one suffering, he’s still trying to save me.”
“No…” I choked.
“You were never his Luna, Olivia,” she added coldly. “Just a placeholder. A shadow I had to deal with. But now… the real light has returned.”

The call ended. She tossed the phone aside, and with a flick of her wrist, the guards grabbed me.
“Let’s go show you the finale,” she sneered.
They dragged me through a narrow hallway and shoved me toward a high window. I struggled, pain flaring through my abdomen. I was weakening. But I still had my child to protect.
Below the window, I saw him.
Dominic.
He was shouting orders to his warriors, his jaw set, his eyes wild with rage. But none of it was directed toward the building I was in. He hadn’t even looked this way.
He was here… for Evelyn.
Not me.
Not us.
A masked man grabbed my hair and yanked my head up, forcing me to watch.
“Don’t look away now,” he growled. “You don’t want to miss your Alpha choosing his Queen.”
I stared.
Dominic rushed forward.
Straight into Evelyn’s arms.
My legs buckled. My vision blurred.
That was it.
He had made his choice.
I gripped my stomach, whispering under my breath to the little life inside me. “I’m sorry… I’m so sorry. I thought he would
come for us.”
But he never did.
He came for her.
And that… broke me in a way nothing else ever could.
