“Halsey, when you put it that way, your fiancé really is a good guy!”
“Yeah, you and your fiancé are so in love.”
“If some girl barged into my boyfriend’s shower and he threw something at her, I’d be thrilled.”
Everyone suddenly started admiring the relationship between Halsey and her fiancé.
Sierra was stunned. It felt as if she had only managed to make Halsey and Shaun’s love story look better. Somehow, she had set up Shaun as the perfect boyfriend.
“Halsey, come on. Don’t keep us guessing. Who’s your fiancé?”
“Yeah, we’re dying to know!”
Halsey smiled. “You’ll find out one day.”
“Fine, we won’t push you.”
“Let’s go grab some food.”
A few girls pulled Halsey away, and the rest of the crowd quickly dispersed.
Sierra stayed behind with Zada, digging her nails so hard into her palms that it hurt. This wasn’t at all what she had pictured.
She was fuming.
She turned to Zada and asked, “Did I mess up again?”
Zada comforted her. “No, you didn’t do anything wrong. Forget it. Let’s just move on.”
“But Halsey doesn’t want to be friends with me anymore.”
“Well, you still have me. I’ll always be your best friend.”
Sierra nodded. “Okay. Let’s go eat.”
Meanwhile, Halsey was having lunch with the other girls when a wave of excitement spread through the cafeteria.
“Big news!”
“What news? Tell us!”
“I just heard Mr. Lane is giving another lecture!”
Shaun was coming.

He hadn’t returned since the last time he had spoken at Anteoch University. But he was basically the school’s most famous guest lecturer, so word spread instantly like wildfire.
Halsey’s lashes fluttered. Shaun was coming to teach again, and he hadn’t even told her.
Her classmates practically squealed.
“This is amazing! Mr. Lane is back!”
“He’s not only good–looking but brilliant, too. When he’s on stage, it’s as if he’s glowing!”
“Ugh, stop drooling. Don’t forget, Mr. Lane already has a girlfriend.”
“Whoever that girl is, she’s insanely lucky.”
As Shaun’s “girlfriend“, Halsey couldn’t help but agree.
“Halsey, come on! His lecture is starting soon. Let’s go!”
She hugged her sketchbook close. “But I still haven’t finished one of my designs.

“Forget the sketch! You can finish it later. You don’t wanna miss Mr. Lane’s class.”
Dragged along by her friends, Halsey ended up in the massive lecture hall. Wanting to stay out of the spotlight this time, she chose the very last row.
Shaun was the star of Anteoch University now. She didn’t need to sit front and center to prove anything. But still… Wasn’t he swamped at work this week? How did he suddenly have time to come here?
That was when two all–too–familiar figures walked in, Sierra and Zada. They slid into the second–to–last row, right in front of Halsey.
Sierra turned her head, staring at Halsey. She was like a shadow that wouldn’t go away.
Halsey smirked coldly and looked away.
Because Shaun was teaching, the lecture hall filled up fast until it was standing room only. The whole place buzzed with energy; everyone was waiting for his entrance.
Suddenly, a ripple of excitement spread.
“Look! Mr. Lane is here!”
