Chapter 1156

Wanda frowned. “It’s so late, and he still went back to the office? My job is more important than family”
Ivy similed faintly and didn’t respond.
After finishing the soup, Ivy returned to her bedroom. She took a long, hot shower, then climbed into bed.
She stared at the empty space beside her, and Nathan’s handsome face surfaced in her mind.
Where was he right now? Would he come home tonight?
Ivy understood Nathan’s anget completely. Someone as gifted and proud as he carried a deep sense of self–respect. She was probably the first person who had ever dared to use him this way.
Even if she had a hundred reasons and a thousand excuses, she couldn’t say them out loud. No one in this world was obligated to tolerate another person unconditionally.
As for what Nathan would do next, she had no idea.
Whatever choice he made, she couldn’t interfere.
Ivy rested her hand gently on her lower abdomen and whispered, “Let’s sleep now.”
Her thoughts were heavy, but pregnancy hormones weighed on her, and she soon drifted off.
When she opened her eyes again, it was already morning. Ivy sat up and looked to her side. It was still empty.
If she wasn’t mistaken, Nathan hadn’t come home at all.
Ivy got out of bed, washed up, and went downstairs.
Wanda was in especially high spirits. “Mrs. Lowe, you’re up! Breakfast’s ready. Come eat.”
Ivy walked over and took a sip of milk.
Wanda asked, “Where’s Mr. Lowe?”
Ivy answered honestly, “He didn’t come back last night.”
“What?” Wanda looked shocked. “Mr. Lowe stayed out all night? Where could he have gone?”
Ivy didn’t say anything.
Noticing Ivy’s low mood, Wanda quickly tried to reassure her.
“I’ve watched Mr. Lowe grow up. He probably stayed at the office last night. His personal life is spotless, and he’s a serious neat freak. He definitely wouldn’t go anywhere inappropriate. I can promise you that.”
Ivy forced a small smile. “I know.”

“But that young man really crossed a line,” Wanda muttered. “No matter how busy work gets, he shouldn’t stay out all night.”
Just then, a luxury car sped across the lawn outside the house. Moments later, a tall, well–built figure stepped out.
Nathan was back.
Wanda spotted him through the floor–to–ceiling windows and brightened. “Look, he’s home!”
Ivy’s heart skipped. She hadn’t expected him to come back. He hadn’t come home all night, yet here he was the next morning.
The front door opened, and Nathan walked in.
Wanda hurried over. “Mr. Lowe, you’re back!”

Wands pressed on. “Why didn’t you come home last night?
Nathan didn’t answer.
Wanda continued, “Mrs. Lowe was just talking about you. You didn’t come home all night, and she really missed you.”
Ivy’s mind went blank
What? When had she ever said that?
She looked up at Nathan.
He turned his head, lifted his sharp eyes, and met her gaze.
Their eyes locked.
