When Ivy started to fall backward, the happiest person there was Kate. A slow smile curved across her lips as she waited for the show to start
If the baby were gone, that would solve everything.
She wanted that child erased.
Ivy’s body tipped through the air, completely out of control. Instinct took over, and she wrapped both arms around her stomach.
The baby!
Out of nowhere, a strong arm shot forward and caught Ivy around the waist. Instead of hitting the floor, she landed in a steady, warm chest.
She looked up, and Nathan’s face filled her vision.
Her mind went blank. She had no idea why he was here.
Kate froze. She hadn’t expected Nathan to show up, either.
“Ivy!” Madge came running over, breathless. “Ivy, are you okay? Mr. Lowe!”
Nathan kept one arm around Ivy as he helped her stand. His voice dropped low. “Did you get hurt?”
Ivy was still shaken. She pressed a hand to her stomach and slowly shook her head. “I’m fine.”
“Nate!” Kate called out, trying to steady her voice.
Nathan’s eyes cooled as they landed on her. “What were you doing?”
Kate swallowed. “I was just trying to help Ivy. I reached out to catch her, but she slipped on her own. Good thing you got here in time, or she could’ve been in real danger.”
Madge shot back at Kate immediately, “Since when are you that kind? Looked to me like you pushed her.”
Nathan glanced at Ivy. “What happened?”
Ivy opened her mouth, but Kate jumped in first. “Ivy, I didn’t push you. I swear!”
Ivy let out a short, cold laugh.
Kate could lie without blinking. It was pretty impressive.
She said evenly, “I haven’t even said anything yet, and you’re already denying it. Feeling guilty?”
“I…” Kate stammered.
“You pushed me.” Ivy’s voice cut clean through the air. “Stop pretending.”
Madge’s face flushed with anger. “Kate, I can’t believe you’d go after Ivy’s baby. Mr. Lowe, you need to do something. She deserves a lesson!”

Kate’s face drained of color. She never imagined Nathan would show up. Would he really side against her?
“Nare, you have to believe me. I didn’t push her! You can’t just accuse someone without proof” She lurpt going. cleging to that deiner
Nathan ignored the performance. His gaze returned to Ivy. “How do you want to handle this?”
Ivy’s heart skipped a beat.
Was he asking her? If she said the word, would he really step in for her? For the baby?
She looked at Kate’s pale face, then back at Nathan. “I don’t want to see her. Make her leave.”
This wasn’t the right time.
Nathan pressed his lips together, then said flatly, “Get out.”
“Okay. I’m leaving.” Kate turned and hurried off.
Madge stepped closer. “Ivy, you sure you’re okay?”
Ivy nodded. Nathan’s arm was still around her waist, their bodies closer than they should’ve been.
She looked up at him. “Why are you at the hospital?”
Nathan finally let go. “Wanda told me you were here. Why didn’t you tell me about your prenatal checkup?”
