Chapter 8
Sage’s POV
Countless departments issued a joint statement-after an investigation, they uncovered numerous issues within the Armitage Group. Effective immediately, the company was ordered to suspend operations for internal restructuring.
The sky over the capital had really flipped upside down!
“P-President! Hurry, beg Ma’am Mitzi for help! She’s your wife-there’s no way she’d let you cras and burn!”
I snapped out of my shock and urged him anxiously.
“Yes, yes! My wife would never leave me hanging!” he agreed.
A glimmer of hope flashed in his eyes as he quickly tried to call Ma’am Mitzi.
Cicely’s POV
But before the call could even connect, a car sped up to the entrance of the company.
It hadn’t even come to a full stop when someone leapt out and stumbled past Sylvan and his assistant, rolling and crawling all the way to me.
She dropped to her knees in front of me, desperately begging.
‘Dr. Baxter! I swear I didn’t know Sylvan was your husband!” she said. “I was wrong! Please, I’m begging you, spare me!”
‘Honey! Why are you kneeling in front of her?” Sylvan stepped forward, looking confused.
‘Go to hell!” the woman roared, slapping him so hard it echoed.
‘You dragged me down with you, you asshole! If you hadn’t lied and told me your wife was dead, why the hell would I have married you?!” she yelled hysterically.
The onlookers stared, stunned by the scene unfolding in front of them.
‘No way… Did Mitzi just slap President Armitage?!”
‘Can’t you see it now? She’s probably struggling to save herself now.”
Who the hell’s his ex-wife? What kind of background does she have?”
Sylvan was frozen in place from the slap. Just then, their son burst into tears and threw himself
at Mitzi.
‘Mommy, why did you hit Daddy? They’re all bullying him! You need to help him take revenge!” hat little devil cried.
‘Revenge, my ass!” Mitzi snapped, slapping her son mercilessly. “You little brat! if I hadn’t been pregnant with you, you think I’d have married him?! Why didn’t you just die in the womb along with your damn father?!”
The slap was so hard it knocked the boy unconscious.
“Jethro!” Sylvan screamed and scooped the boy into his arms. “Hurry up, call 911!”
But Mitzi firmly refused. “Call one my ass! If he dies, it serves him right!”
She glared at them like she wanted to kill them both. Then she turned back around, falling to her
knees again and banging her head on the ground.
“Dr. Baxter, I really must’ve been insane to let Sylvan-that asshole-to fool me!” she cried.
“Whatever you want to do to him-beat him, kill him-I won’t interfere. I swear I’m innocent!” she
added.
She pleaded pitifully, not daring to stop even after her forehead started bleeding from the force.
I just stood there quietly, took my daughter’s hand, and calmly walked toward the waiting plane.
“Cicely!” Sylvan called out. “I was wrong. I realize my mistake now! Please, let me come back. I’l be a good husband from now on!”
He clung to my leg, crying and pleading.
“You don’t regret what you did,” I corrected him. “You just realize now that you’ve lost everything.
I stared at him calmly, shook my head, and boarded the plane without a trace of hesitation.
Behind me, he collapsed to the ground, bawling his eyes out in despair.
But of course, someone else was in even worse shape.
Sage was sprawled on the ground, face as pale as a ghost. Even an idiot could see she’ seriously messed with someone way out of her league.
Her whole body trembled uncontrollably. And as the men my boss sent over started walking toward her, the sharp stench of urine filled the air; her bladder gave out.
She had completely lost her nerve.
She was the one who had boldly lent my boss “a pair of balls” to show up.
Too bad for her-even if she wanted to back out, my boss’s men would make sure she kept that promise, by force if necessary.
