Chapter 33
The strike was so fast that Luke barely registered it before his legs buckled beneath him. One moment he was standing, reaching for Alicia with confident arrogance; the next he was on his knees on the sticky nightclub floor, gasping for air as pain exploded through his body.
“What-“Luke wheezed, his eyes wide with shock.
Pervis stood calmly over him, his expression unchanged. “I said we’re done.”
Luke’s face cycled through shock, confusion, and then pure rage. “Do you have any idea who I am?”
“Luke Castellano,” Pervis replied. “Small–time operator who controls a few blocks of this district. You run protection rackets, illegal gambling, and you traffic women when you think you can get away with it.”
Luke’s eyes narrowed. “If you know all that, then you know what happens to people who cross me.”
“I can imagine,” Pervis said mildly.
With shaking hands, Luke reached for his phone. His face was still flushed with rage and humiliation as he dialed a number he clearly had on speed dial.
“Get everyone to Club Velvet,” he snarled into the phone. “Private room seven. Now.‘
Pervis pulled out his own phone with equally calm deliberation. He scrolled through his contacts and pressed a single name: Aria.
“Yes?” Her voice came through clearly.
“I’m at a nightclub called Club Velvet,” Pervis said conversationally. “Private room seven. There’s been a slight… complication.”
“What kind of complication?” Aria’s tone sharpened immediately.
“Nothing I can’t handle, but you might want to send someone to help with cleanup.”
“I’ll be there in fifteen minutes,” Aria said decisively, then ended the call.
Luke laughed as Pervis pocketed his phone. “Called your girlfriend? That’s sweet. Maybe I’ll let her watch too before we’re done with you.”
Within minutes, heavy footsteps could be heard in the hallway outside. The door burst open to reveal six large men, all dressed in dark clothes and looking distinctly dangerous. They filed into the private room, surrounding Pervis and Alicia.
Luke struggled to his feet, still wheezing slightly but clearly energized by the arrival of his backup. “There we go. Now you’re going to learn what happens when you mess with Luke Castellano.”
He gestured to his men. “These are my boys. They’ve been with me for years, and they’re very good at teaching lessons to people who forget their place.”
“Your place,” one of the thugs added helpfully, “is bleeding on the floor while we do whatever we want to your pretty friend there.”

Alicia pressed closer to Pervis’s back, her breathing rapid with fear.
“I run these streets,” Luke declared, his confidence returning now that he had overwhelming numbers on his side. “Nobody crosses me in my own territory. Nobody.”
He pulled himself up to his full height, trying to reclaim some of the authority that Pervis’s attack had stripped from him.
“So here’s what’s going to happen,” Luke continued. “First, my boys are going to break both your legs. Then we’re going to-”
His phone rang, cutting off his threat mid–sentence. Luke glanced at the screen and his expression changed immediately. The arrogance drained from his face, replaced by something that looked almost like fear.
“It’s the boss,” he said to no one in particular, his voice suddenly uncertain.
