Chapter 113
Kane’s POV
…
57
My fingers moved quickly over the screen, the sharp taps against the phone the only sound as I walked to the far end of the corridor. My
breath steamed slightly in the cold, even inside this damn place, and my pulse was still roaring in my ears from what Kion had just told
- me.
Deport me? Strip me of my title?
The Alpha Council was either suicidal or desperate- maybe both. But I’d die before I let them win.
The line clicked once, then again. Then a voice picked up- steady, deep, and instantly familiar.
“Alpha Kane?”
“Yeah,” I said, my tone cold and direct. “Put me on with Vance. Now.”
There was no hesitation. The line shifted, a few seconds of static, and then the voice of my third–in–command filled my ear. His voice was
clear, calm, and ready.
“Alpha.”
“Vance,” I said sharply, already pacing again, “listen to me, and listen close. I just got word- there’s a possible move coming from the Alpha Council. A direct hit. They’ve labeled me a war criminal and requested immediate deportation from Russian territory. This isn’t just
political games anymore. It’s a fucking invasion waiting to happen.”
Silence for half a second, then: “Understood. Do you want lockdown?”
1
“Immediate,” I growled. “Seal every border. No one comes in or out without confirmation through your line and three lieutenants. Triple patrols at every perimeter point. Post snipers in the trees and call in every dominant from the outer territories. We’re not giving them an
inch.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Vance confirmed without question. “What about intruders?”
“Capture and kill,” I ordered, my voice low and sharp. “No mercy. I don’t care if they flash a badge or wear a fucking crown. If they’re not ours, they don’t get to breathe in our land. Is that clear?”
“Crystal,” he replied. “We’ll start preparations now. You don’t have to worry- we’ll keep your people safe until you return.”
My chest tightened with something almost like relief, but not quite. I trusted Vance. The male had been forged in fire like me. We’d bled
together more times than I could count. If anyone could hold the line in my absence, it was him.

Chapter 113

“Good,” I muttered, rubbing my jaw. “I also want you to call in backup. Contact Mikhail from the Southern Hills and Thomas from the
Hollow. Tell them I’m calling in the favour personally – they’d happily assist on taking the council down too.”
“I’ll reach out tonight. Both will answer and most likely send us extra men by morning so don’t worry about that,” Vance replied.
I paused. My eyes locked on the end of the corridor, lost in the quiet hum of sterile light above me.
“When do you plan to return?” he asked.
57)
My jaw clenched, and I scanned the area again out of pure instinct. “Within the next day or two,” I said carefully. “As soon as I figure out a way to get back into the country without tipping the council off. I won’t be intercepted or detained, Vance. I need to get in clean in
order to destroy them.”
“You’ll make it,” he said with conviction. “We’ll hold the fortress until then. And if anyone tries to take your crown while you’re gone…
they’ll answer to all of us.”
That was the only reassurance I needed.
I ended the call and lowered the phone, exhaling through my nose like a charging bull trying to keep from losing control. My rage hadn’t
cooled- just condensed into something deadlier. More focused.
And that’s when I heard the sound of footsteps approaching fast.
I turned to see Seth and Erin emerging from the far end of the hall, moving like they’d sensed something wrong from floors above. Seth’s
eyes locked on me immediately, and whatever he saw in my face made him stop short.
“Kane,” he said, his tone dipping, “what is it?”
I opened my mouth, but paused when I caught Erin’s expression–wide–eyed, concerned. She was clinging to Seth’s side like she could
already feel the heat radiating off us.
This wasn’t the time.
I gave her a tight nod and jerked my chin toward the room. “Go inside with Tessa. Sasha hasn’t moved. Tessa needs a break anyway.”
Erin didn’t move right away. She looked between us- saw the tension, smelled the weight in the air- and her lip curled nervously.
“I’m not a kid,” she said. “If this is about Dimitri-”
“It’s not,” I cut her off gently, though my voice left no room for argument. “Please, Erin. I need a moment with Seth. Tessa needs you.”
She hesitated again, chewing her lip, then finally gave in with a reluctant nod. “Okay… But we would prefer to know if something bad is
going on. We need time to mentally prepare for if bad things were to happen again…” she breathes.

“You will,” I promised, watching her duck back into Sasha’s room without another word.
The second the door closed behind her, Seth stepped in front of me.
“Okay what is it? What happened?” he asked again, sharper this time.
I blew out a breath. “The council sent a fax.”
57
Seth blinked. “A fax? What year are we in? The nineteen twenties?!”
“Yeah, we know. Formal shit. Stamped. Sealed. Unmistakable.” My voice dropped. “They’re calling me a war criminal now. Demanding I be deported back home. Immediate trial. Immediate punishment.”
Seth stared at me like I’d just told him the sun was being shut off.
“No,” he said. “No fucking way. Are they idiots?!”
“It’s real,” I said grimly. “Kion saw it himself. Verified. Everything checks out. Those cowardly old pricks actually fucking did it.”
He cursed under his breath, running both hands through his hair. “They’ve got balls, I’ll give them that much! They waited until we were
off territory to threaten you. Until we were stretched thin out here in Russia. They think they can take control now- maybe even seize
the pack while we’re here.”
I nodded. “They’ve misjudged. I’ve already called Vance. Lockdown’s initiated. He’s got every dominant ready. I also sent him to contact
Mikhail and Thomas for support.”
Seth looked impressed- and a little fired up. “Then we hold the line and end them when we return.”
“Damn right we do,” I said. “But now I need to figure out how the hell to get back into the country without being intercepted. They’ll have eyes on every flight path. Every border checkpoint. We’ll need to go in dirty. Low visibility, private transport, back routes.”
Seth cracked his neck. “Then we go rogue. I’ll help plan it.”
I met his eyes. “And if it goes wrong?”
“Then we fight.”
A savage grin tugged at my mouth.
This was what they didn’t understand.
You don’t corner a wolf like me and expect him to roll over.
You corner me?

I bare my teeth.
And I make damn sure you regret every step you took to get that close.
