Chapter 117
Tessa’s POV
:
I tried to keep my breathing steady as I took the seat in the corner of Kion’s office.
M,67)
The chair was hard and cold beneath me, and the tension in the room was thick enough to choke on. I folded my hands in my lap and kept my back straight like I had every right to be here- like I hadn’t just dragged myself out of bed and into a world I barely understood.
Kane stood tall near the center of the room, radiating heat and control, while Kion flanked him like a storm brewing in the shadows.
The other two wolves in the room said nothing, their eyes flicking toward me every so often with a mix of curiosity and doubt. But Kion
didn’t bother pretending I wasn’t there. He looked straight at me when he asked his first question.
“How much does she know?” His thick Russian accent came, as Kane cleared his throat to answer him.
Kane didn’t hesitate. “Nothing yet,” he replied, his voice low.
Then he turned to me.
“Tessa,” he said, stepping forward, his tone shifting to something gentler- but still solid, laced with gravity. “Last night, a fax came in
from our little Alpha Council back home.”
I blinked. “Oh great! What did they want this time…”
“They didn’t exactly double down and apologise like we figured they would…” he tells me carefully as my brows pull in.
“They didn’t?!” I gasped at the thought, “then what is it now?”
“Well… they’re now claiming that I’ve committed serious war crimes,” he said, flatly. “They’ve labeled me a traitor to their system and
want me deported from Russia immediately. To stand trial. And to be punished.”
The words struck like a slap across the face.
“WHAT?!” I breathed sharply, my jaw falling slack.
But the disbelief didn’t sit quietly in my chest. It roared. “No Kane! That’s Insane! You haven’t done anything wrong! You saved people here! You- you protected me, you-”
“Angel,” Kane cut in sharply, raising a hand.
The room went quiet around us again. He wasn’t angry. He just needed control.

“It’s going to be alright,” he said, eyes fixed on mine. “I need to make it back to our pack- rally every man we’ve got, and take the council down once and for all. We have more force coming their way than they can imagine and besides, this has been a long time
coming!”

He straightened, his voice growing firmer, steadier.
“There are too many packs and Alphas back home who respect me. The council’s days are numbered. They can try to isolate me, turn the world against me- but they’re forgetting one thing.”
His eyes burned now, wild and unwavering.
“I don’t break easily.”
My chest was heaving. I hadn’t realised I’d stopped breathing until my lungs burned. This was why he hadn’t wanted me here. Not
because I’d be a distraction. Not because I couldn’t handle it. But because it was a terrifying thought.
War criminal?!
The words echoed heavily around in my skull, and no matter how false I knew they were, I couldn’t stop the fear they dredged up. The
kind that pulled at your ribs and made the walls seem smaller. But this is what I’d asked for. I said I wanted to be a part of it. I said I
could handle the truth.
So I nodded.
Even though I wasn’t sure my legs would work if I tried to stand. Even though my throat felt like it was closing.
Kane studied me carefully, his expression unreadable- but I could feel it. He was looking past the nod, past the fake calm I was putting
on, right into the panic I was trying to hide.
He saw it all.
But he didn’t call me out on it.
He just gave me the smallest nod in return. One that said I see you. I’ve got you.
And then Kion spoke, as if I wasn’t even there.
“The council’s pushback isn’t the only problem,” he said sharply, turning back to his men. “We’ve received word from one of our moles- there’s movement in the north, close to the border towns. Either they’re preparing to blockade Kane’s exit, or they’re trying to trap him in. If he steps foot outside Russia without cover, they’ll take him before he makes it halfway home.”
Kane let out a slow breath, jaw tight. “Then we don’t go through the northern border.”
Kion narrowed his eyes. “Then how? They’ve already closed off most viable land crossings and you can’t fly in. You’ll be met with

blockades no matter which direction you travel.”
:
There was a pause. Kane’s brows drew together, but not in frustration- he was thinking.
Calculating.
And then he looked up, something flickering behind his eyes.
“We could fly somewhere else,” he said.
“To where?” Kion asked, cautious.

“Mexico,” Kane replied simply. “If we fly into one of the southern cities and come through that border instead, they won’t be watching for
us there. It’s not a route they’d expect- not from me.”
Kion scoffed. “Mexico? You’ll need clearance from the Alphas in the area and-”
“I’ve still got connections there,” Kane interrupted. “My father… years ago, he helped a few of the packs during the rebellion. Protected a
lot of families when their own Alpha abandoned them. Some of their sons are in charge now, and I know for a fact they haven’t forgotten
what our name did for them.”
Kion folded his arms, his expression unreadable. “You trust them?”
Kane gave a slight nod. “I trust they’ll honor the debt. It’s not about loyalty, it’s about code. And if they give me safe passage across
their land, I can sneak back through the southern edge of our border before anyone even notices I’m home.”
The room fell silent for a long moment as everyone absorbed the idea. It wasn’t a perfect plan. It was risky, unpredictable, and hinged on
favors owed by men Kane hadn’t spoken to in years. But it was possible.
And right now, that was more than they had a minute ago.
“Is it doable?” Kion finally asked, directing the question to one of his advisors.
“If the Alphas grant airspace, and if the council can’t trace the charter, yes,” the man replied with a curt nod. “But he’ll need to go dark
the moment they land. No electronics. No trail.”
Kane glanced at me quickly, and something passed between us–something silent but full of meaning.
He wasn’t just thinking about himself.
He was thinking about me. About Erin. Sasha. All of us.
“This needs to happen fast,” Kane said, turning back to Kion. “Tomorrow, if possible. We’ll need false names, a pilot we can trust, and safe
housing when we land. Just long enough to rest, regroup, and move.”

Kion gave a stiff nod. “I’ll make some calls. You’ll have what you need from us.”
As the two Alphas began moving into the logistics, rattling off names, contact points, and fallback strategies, I sat frozen in my seat.
The enormity of what Kane was walking into was finally sinking in…
