Chapter 121
Kane’s POV

I continued to admire how well my mate had handled the crying toddler, the odd feeling seeming to warm my chest from the inside out as we approached Sasha’s doet….
My senses sharpened as we stepped inside, Erin sat beside the hospital bed and Seth was already on his feet as though he had been waiting on us all morning which he most likely had been.
Tessa entered first, as Erin rushed to hug her, before I stepped in at her back.
The harsh glare of the overhead lights softened by the drawn curtains, the steady beep of the heart monitor a strange comfort amidst the
sterile surroundings.
Sasha lay propped against the pillows, pale but unmistakably alive. Her eyes fluttered open, catching sight of us, and I felt a flicker of
relief.
“Tessa, Erin said quietly, nodding toward Sasha, “she’s doing better today. A lot better.”
I could see it too- Sasha was more alert, more aware than she’d been when we’d first found her. That small victory felt like a hard–won battle, but one we had to cherish.
“Tessa,” I said gently, my voice low, “I’m going to update Seth on the plans. We’ll leave you girls to talk for a bit.”
Tessa nodded, giving my arm a brief squeeze before I motioned for Seth to follow me out – the door clicking shut behind us.
As we stepped back into the corridor, the weight of leadership settled down squarely on my shoulders again.
I drew Seth aside, pressing him against the wall just out of earshot from the room.
“We need to move fast,” I said, voice steady but urgent. “We’ve decided Mexico.”
Seth nodded, his jaw tight, eyes burning with determination. “Mexico?! Those fuckers are crazy… they don’t seem like the warmest of Alphas, Kane… have you called them first?”
I took a breath, running through the options racing through my mind. “We have allies in Mexico to sneak us home from there, they owe my pack favours from years before when my father helped them out if they are decent enough, then they’ll want to repay us.”
–
“Is that all we have? That’s our best shot?” Seth questions, as I nod and watch him curse under his breath.
He had every right to be tense, the Mexicans had a reputation…

If you weren’t one of them, then they’d have your head on a stick, it was simple.
They didn’t often cross our borders and we didn’t ever cross theirs.
Until now…
He ran a hand through his hair, frustration flickering across his face. “And the council? Anymore contact from them since the fax?”
I grimaced. “Nothing, radio silence. They’ve not made a move yet on our pack either…”
Seth’s eyes hardened. “So what? We leave here tonight? Or tomorrow? Sneak in from Mexico’s side. Get home and then attack? What
about Sasha? Does Sasha go with us?”
He fires question after question, as my head pounds to digest each of them.
“We leave tomorrow, I’m taking tonight to complete the mating process with Tessa. Kion is organising the travel arrangements and loose ends.” I explain, as Seth sighs heavily.
“Sasha?” He reminds, as I think about the healing human who had saved our girls and us more than she even knew.
“We can’t take her in that condition… she stays here, at least until she gets better… then she will be more than welcome at our pack, if she has nowhere else to go.” I tell him firmly, knowing I would also have to inform Tessa about the plan to avoid her freaking out.
“Does she have any family left here?” Seth tests as I all but shrug.
“Don’t know, but I can always ask Kion to find out.” I breathe, unsure of the poor girls future here in Russia.
But I couldn’t provide her with a new safe home to live in when my own pack was now under serious threat! I have to get back first, sort my own shit out, before inviting her there – she’s in no fit state to travel around in danger zones!
A silence fell between us, thick with the unspoken risks. Failure wasn’t an option- not when lives hung in the balance.
“Prepare Erin. I’ll check in again before we go tomorrow.” I nod at him, as Seth rubs his jaw.
“I will… try to enjoy your night with Tessa at least!” Seth clasped my shoulder in a brief show of solidarity before we stepped towards the
door again.
I pushed the door open again and stepped back inside the room. The soft murmur of Tessa and Sasha’s voices floated through the air, gentle and steady–a stark contrast to the cold steel and danger that surrounded us.
Tessa glanced up when I entered, her eyes briefly meeting mine. There was a quiet strength in that look, the kind of resilience I needed to hold onto right now.
Sasha lay back against the pillows, her breathing steady but shallow.

Tessa nodded, understanding the unspoken urgency. “I’ll stay here with Sasha.”
“Erin we need to go get some rest, you’re exhausted…” Seth’s voice came from beside me next, his hand outstretched towards her as the
syed it warily.
“But…” she attempted to protest, not wanting to leave her two friends just yet, but Seth shook his head.
“Your eyes are practically hanging out of your skull! Come on, you can come back down in a few hours, I promise.” He coaches, as she leans down to give Sasha a gentle hug before moving around to squeeze Tessa on her way to the door.
As I stepped out with them, the cold air of the corridor hit me as we walked through the hospital wing.
I grabbed my phone from my back pocket, texting Kion to say I was ready to head in to town, knowing he had sorted all of the
arrangements for me.
Despite all else, tonight was going to be special.
War and threats aside, Tessa was the most important thing in my life now and I would stop at nothing to give her the world!
