Chapter 132
Tessa’s POV

The drive back to Kion’s pack house was quiet but charged with unspoken energy.
Kane held my hand the entire way, his thumb brushing gentle circles into my skin as snow drifted against the windows.
I still hadn’t fully processed the night before- how different everything felt now. How close I felt to him.
My body was sore, sure, but it was the good kind of sore, the kind that reminded me of how real last night had been. What we’d become.
Mated. Claimed. Loved.
And now, here we were, heading back into the chaos, the comfort of the capin already a memory as the mansion’s silhouette began to emerge through the curtain of white.
But then the sky cracked.
A deep, rumbling thunder rolled through the ground just as the limo turned into the circular drive.
Thick, angry clouds had swallowed the sky since morning, and now they’d finally broken open–cold rain came sheeting down in wild gusts, hitting the car like slaps of icy wind.
“Looks like the storm didn’t wait,” Kane muttered, leaning forward to eye the wall of gray outside the window.
“I thought it was snow,” I said, surprised.
“It was. This is worse,” he said, tightening his grip on my hand. “Come on. We’ll have to run inside.”
The second the car door opened, the wind howled through, and rain whipped across my face. Kane jumped out first, then reached for me with
urgency.
“Let’s go!”
I barely had time to hike up the hem of my coat before we sprinted. Water drenched my hair in seconds, soaked through the thin fabric of my sleeves, and clung to my cheeks like ice. The wide front steps of the pack House were slick underfoot as Kane hauled me up them two at a time, his hand wrapped tightly around mine to ensure I didn’t slip…
The heavy front door burst open as we reached it.
Kion stood in the entryway, bone–dry, grinning like the storm was just part of the show.
“Well, well,” he drawled. “Back already? How was the little love nest?”
I felt heat crawl all the way up my neck and into my ears, my eyes darting anywhere but at Kion’s amused, knowing stare.
Kane let out a sharp breath beside me, clearly trying not to laugh as he sok the rain from his hair. “Kion-
“I can smell your scent all over her!” Kion interrupted, laughing so hard he slapped his own chest. “You didn’t even try to be subtle, Alpha.

Damn. The whole pack will smell you on her!”
“That’s the point!” Kane grinned like a mad man, as I rolled my eyes at him childishly.
I wanted to disappear. I pulled my damp coat tighter around me, avoiding ye contact as I mumbled, “We had a nice time, thanks.”
Kane stepped protectively in front of me and waved Kion off. “Anyway thats enough of that. You’re embarrassing her.”
As was he… but I let him defend me nonetheless.

“I’m just happy for you,” Kion said with a smirk, clearly not sorry in the slightest. “Bonded pairs make for stronger packs. She looks good on
you, Kane.”
“She isn’t an accessory,” Kane snapped- but lightly, more like an older brother annoyed than truly angry.
Kion raised both hands. “Alright, alright. I’ll behave myself.”
The laughter faded as Kion turned serious, ushering us inside. “We need to wait out the storm before you can fly. The chopper’s grounded for now- visibility’s trash, and the wind’s pushing like hell from the east.”
Kane’s brow furrowed. “How long do we wait?”
“A few hours, maybe more. Depends on how fast it moves,” Kion said, leading us deeper into the house as the wind roared behind the closed door. “I’ve already prepped for the journey. You won’t be going in alone.”
“Meaning?” Kane asked.
“Fighter jets,” Kion said flatly. “Two of them. On both sides of the chopper once you’re in the air. Mexican airspace won’t be an issue- I pulled some strings with contacts at the border. But the second we leave Russian soil, the Council could come sniffing us out.”
“They’ll try to track you,” Kion added, voice low and serious. “But I’ve got wo of my best tech guys working on scrambling their systems. They’ve already begun hacking the Council’s satellite feeds- by the time they realise you’re missing, you’ll be in the air and long gone.”
Kane nodded, jaw tight with approval. “Thank you. This means a whole lot more than I can explain.”
Kion waved that off, ‘No need. I know what Dimitri did. Helping us take him down was the greatest favour.”
The mention of Dimitri still made my spine stiffen. But Kane’s hand slid to the small of my back, steadying me,
He felt it now. My discomfort. My tension. And just like that, I felt anchor.
“We’ll be ready,” Kane said.
“Good,” Kion replied, already turning toward the hallway. “Dry off. Eat something. Get packed. I’ll come get you when it’s safe to move.”
As he disappeared down the corridor, Kane turned to me and brushed a soked strand of hair from my face.
“Still want to pretend the world doesn’t exist?‘ he asked softly.
I nodded, shivering a little from the cold and the memory of everything w
were about to face. “Just for a little longer.”

And he leaned down to kiss me gently on the forehead, his warmth chasing away the last of the rain.

We’d barely stepped out of the entryway, still shaking rain from our clothes, when I heard the sound of boots echoing down the hallway.
“Speak of the devil,” Kane murmured under his breath, just as Seth rounded the corner with a knowing grin on his face.
“Well, well,” he said, dragging out the words like he’d just stumbled upon scandal. His eyes went straight to me, then to Kane, then back again, like he was putting puzzle pieces together in real time. “Someone sells… different.”
I froze mid–step, but it was already too late. The moment he stepped close, his nostrils flared like a bloodhound catching a trail, and a sly,
satisfied smirk slid across his face.
“Oh yeah. That’s definitely Kane all over you.”
My eyes widened in horror. “Seth!”
He just laughed, ignoring the sharp elbow Kane sent his way.
Then I heard the hurried patter of softer footsteps–and seconds later, Erin flew in from behind him, her arms thrown wide.
“Tessa!”
I barely had time to brace myself before she launched into me, her arms squeezing tight around my shoulders.
“You’re okay,” she breathed into my ear.
“I am,” I whispered. “Better than okay.”
She pulled back, eyes scanning my face like she was trying to memorise every little change. Her gaze dropped to my neck— and then she gasped so loudly I thought Kion might come running.
“Oh my goddess! You did it!”
“Guys it’s no big deal!” I hissed, grabbing her by the arm and yanking her hush.
But it was too late,
Kane snorted beside me. Seth was already laughing, practically doubled or as he pointed between us.
Great…
