My Human

Chapter 135

Kane’s POV

The helicopter shook as we lifted from the ground, climbing higher, and higher, cutting through thick, restless and stormy clouds

Outside, the storm still churned ever so slightly flashes of lightning illuminated the dark sky in the far distance, followed by distant rumbles of thunder that vibrated through the cabin’s metal frame…

Tessa’s hand tightened in mine, as I pushed back my own nerves to comfort her

I glanced over to see her jaw clenched, eyes darting nervously between the windows and the comms panel where the radio crackled with bursts of static and intermittent signals

–

The radio was alive with chatter some encrypted, some garbled and every few minutes, a persistent signal buzzed through, reminding us

we weren’t alone

The Council’s eyes and ears were still hunting and our trackers had managed to set them back disabling their online presence to give us some

time to disappear…

I reached over and squeezed Tessa’s hand gently, trying to ground her. They’re just noise. We’ve got protection.”

Outside the thick windows, four sleek fighter jets flanked our chopper, their engines a steady hum of reassurance. Their sharp silhouettes darted like shadows against the storm clouds, scanners sweeping the skies for threats at all times

Tessa swallowed hard, drawing in a shaky breath. I hate flying, she admitted softly, her voice barely above the din of the rotor blades

I couldn’t blame her, since her most recent experiences hadn’t exactly been fun…

I nodded, understanding completely. I know. But you’re safe with me.”

She gave a small, grateful smile, resting her head briefly against my shoulder. The warmth of her presence eased some of the tension coiling in

my chest

Minutes stretched into what felt like hours, every jolt and shudder from the turbulent air sending ripples of anxiety through her as she would

often gasp or jump

I kept my hand wrapped around hers, whispering soft reassurances and stealing glances to make sure she was stable

The pilotscalm voices filtered through the headset. Storm clearing in fivefour”

Relief began to spread through the cabin as the clouds thinned and the stars broke through, piercing the darkness with their cold brilliance. The storm was losing its grip on our air space

I exhaled, tightening my hold on Tessa’s hand one last time. Clear skies now, smooth sailing, we are almost there.”

Her eyes met mine wide, vulnerable, but hopeful and in that moment I knew whatever came next, we would be okay

–

Erin sat in the row behind us, her face hidden entirely in Seth’s arm, just as nervous as Tessa was

But the storm outside had faded to a whisper, but the war for our future was only just beginning in this moment…

1 pulled Tessa close, wrapping an arm securely around her trembling shoulders as the helicopter lurched again, jolting us against the worn leather seats ever so slightly

Her breath hitched with every bump, eyes fluttering shut but never quite settling into rest

Try to rest,I murmured low in her ear, my voice steady, grounding. I’m right here. You’re safe with me. We will be there before you know it.”

She nodded against my chest, eyelids heavy but flickering open every time the chopper rattled or dropped suddenly in the turbulent air

Each jolt seemed to send a fresh spike of fear through her a primal warning she couldn’t silence no matter how hard she tried

And I couldn’t blame her

The ride wasn’t exactly smooth or pleasant

It was as though we were each on a one way trip straight to hell….

I kept my hand pressed gently to the back of her head, fingers threading through damp strands of hair. You don’t have to fight it,I whispered. Just breathe with me.”

The steady thrum of the engines, the muted chatter from the pilots, the oggasional distant roar of thunder symphony that filled the cramped cabin

But slowly, after what felt like forever, the violent shakes softened

they all combined into a chaotic

I shifted slightly, loosening my hold just enough to brush a gentle kiss along her temple. “We’re through it,I told her, voice warm and full of promise. The worst part is behind us.”

Tessa sighed a deep, relieved sound that somehow loosened the tension denched in my own muscles

Her eyes opened fully, meeting mine with a fragile but genuine smile. I pulled her closer again, letting the comfort of my presence do the rest

As the helicopter cut through clearer air, the atmosphere in the cabin changed the cold bite of the storm gave way to a subtle warmth, like a silent promise that better things were coming ahead

And for the first time since we’d taken off, I let myself believe it too

Mexico was fast approaching, as we left the cold and tense Russia behind

A new adventure, and one I didn’t know whether it would be better for us or not…

i dei Tessa’s body loosen against me as exhaustion finally claimed her, her breath evening out into slow, steady rhythms

I closed over my own eyes, despite being unable to sleep, I remained alert listening to every conversation, every signal around us…

Guide, the reptes eventually wound down as we lowered, and voices of our men buzzed through the comms, preparing to unload and serve oan luang

Tessa stirred against me, still halflost in sleep, her breath uneven from the ride. I gently shook her shoulder, whispering her name, Tessa. we’re here. We made it to Mexico.”

Her eyes fluttered open, confused for a second, then fully alert as she realised we’d landed

I moved carefully, lifting her from the seat. She blinked up at me, startled by the sudden movement, but didn’t resist as I stepped past her

toward the door

Outside, the soldering rising sun struck us, as the dull thud of boots hit the dirt runway, echoing off the surrounding buildings

My heart rate quickened as I scanned the crowd dozens of armed guards weapons at the ready, their eyes sharp and watching as we all left

the aircraft’s…

This wasn’t the warm welcome I’d hoped for…

I placed Tessa on her feet, pushing her behind me, out of sight, before a man stepped forward tall, broadshouldered, with a thick cigar clenched between his teeth

Alpha Kane,he said with a grin, voice rough but friendly. Welcome to Mexico friend.”

I studied him carefully, my mind racing. Were these men our allies

The man took a slow drag from his cigar and exhaled a plume of smoke. Im Alpha Rico. We’ve been expecting you.”

His tone was calm, confident

Thank you,I said, meeting Alpha Rico’s gaze steadily. We’ve come a long way.”

Rico’s grin widened. You’re safe with us. Come.He motioning, as I gave my men the go ahead to move

This was only the beginning phase of our mission…
